8 PREPARATION INSTALLING BATTERIES Your s ystem use s two AAA ba tteries to maintain i nfor m ati on in mem ory duri ng power f ailures. For the l ongest o peration and bes t perf ormance, we recommend you use alkali ne bat - ter ies such as RadioShac k Cat.
9 1. Make sure the s ystem is unplug ged fro m the teleph one li ne and AC power . 2. Use a Phil lips scr ewdriv er to remove th e screw in the batt ery compa rtment cover o n the bo ttom of the sy stem, then re move the co ver .
10 CONNECTING THE AC ADAPTER The AC a dapter must be connecte d for the Syst em 4 20 to op - erat e. Note: You must al so keep batt eries in t he system t o protect the infor mation st ored in mem ory duri ng power fail ures. Cauti ons: • Y ou must use an AC adap ter that su pplies 9 vol ts DC and at leas t 50 m il liamps.

15 SETTING THE TIME When no cal l records are di splaye d, the system displ ays the ti m e. The t elephone com pany sets the time with eac h incom- ing call ; howev er, you can al so se t th e ti m e y oursel f. F ollow these steps to m anual ly set the time.

The sys tem also automat ical ly displ ays all receiv ed Caller ID inf ormati on for e very incoming c al l, incl uding t he call’s t ime and dat e.
19 Call W a iting If yo u are using the tele phone when a new call com es in, the syst em displa ys the new call inf ormati on, a nd th e NEW CALL indi cator flashes .

Line Error If there is an erro r in the Caller ID infor mation transmiss ion, -LINE ERROR- app ears on t he di splay.
