StorNext File System and Storage Manager In stallation Guide 5 2 Inst alling S torNext You can install the StorNext software on a server. When you have successfully installe d the StorNext software, use the Configuration Wizard to configure the software.
6 Installation Requirements Windows Prerequisites Before installing StorNext on a Windows server, ve rify that the following installation prerequisites have been met. A Windows machine that will be used as a Stor Next server must meet these requirements.

StorNext suppor ts AIX 5.2 and 5.3 only. • Mapping LUNs - Before installing StorNext, it is necessa ry to correctly map Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs) in the customer SAN.

14 Running the Pre-Installation Script Running the Pre-Installation Script StorNext includes a script called snPreInstall that you can run befo re installing the software. Th e output of this script indi cates whether your system meets the minimum disk space requirements required for the insta llation.

16 Installing StorNext Software Installing StorNext Software Use this procedure to install Stor Next software. The installati on proc ess loads both server and client files on your machine. 1 Designate one machine as the server. 2 Load the StorNext CD appropriate for your opera ting system.

22 Configuring StorNext 4 In the Password Field, type admin and click OK . The initial StorNext GUI appears. You are prompted to start n on-running components. 5 Click OK to start the StorNext compo nents. The Configuration Wizard screen is shown a nd gui des you through con figuration of the StorNext software.

24 Configuring StorNext 1 Click Next to begin using the Configuration Wizard. The Enter License - In troduction screen appears. Step 1: Entering a License You must have a permanent or temp orary licen se to configure or us e StorNext.

Contin ue with ste p 4. • Enter a permanent license. Go to step 7. 4 After selecting Generate 30 day temporary license , click Next to continue.

28 Configuring StorNext Step 2: Adding File Systems This procedure creates an empty file system. The number of file sy stems that can be added is only limited by the number of disks available for c onfiguration. The File Sy stem - Introduction screen displays both configured file systems and disks available for configuration.
StorNext File System and Storage Manager In stallation Guide 29 • Name field: The name of the file system. • Mount Point field: The mount point (dir ectory) for the file system. The mount point defaults to /stornext/snfs. If you create a new mount poi nt (other than the defaul t), the Directory Brow ser screen below appears.
30 Configuring StorNext 1d. Enter the name of the new d irectory and click OK . The new directory is shown in the Current Directory Field. 1e. Click OK to accept the new dire cto ry .

The Disk Settings screen appea rs. • Block size field: The block size (in bytes) for the file system. The block size is the minimum unit of data that will be accessed from physical devices.
32 Configuring StorNext 3 In the Disk Settings screen, type valid values and click Next . A message reminds you to select more than one stripe group if you want an alternate configuration other than t he on e tha t provides journal , metadata, and user date.

The Associated Li brary screen appears. • Configured Libraries list: Select the configured library to associate with added tape d rives. • Fibre-Channel Attached Drives check box: Check this box if you have fibre channel- attached tape drives.

The Associated Library scre en appears. CAUTION Make sure that only media you want StorNext to use is in the library .

If you select a vault, go to Step 5 on page 56. 3 If you do not select a vault, the Select Backup Med ia screen appears.
56 Configuring StorNext 5 When you select a vault, the Select Me dia Type scre en appears. Select the type of media you want to add to the vault. 6 On the Select Media Type screen, select the type of media you want to add to the vault. The Add Media IDs screen appears.

At the Storage Dis k N ame field , enter th e lab el for the storage disk. 2b. Specify the mount point locatio n for the fi le system you just named.

The Complete Add Storag e Disk Task screen appears. 3 Review the information you ente red for the sto rage disk na me, moun t po int, and cop y number (1-4).

64 Configuring StorNext • Minimum Truncation Time (Days) : The mi nimum number of days a file must remain unaccessed before it is considered a candida te for truncation.

Click Next an d repeat the Adding a Stora ge Poli cy procedure ( Step 1 on page 6 1). • Click Done to finish the Adding a Storage Policy proce dure. To download clie nt software from a StorNext server, use a supported Web browser.
72 Installing StorNext Client Software Downloading the Client Software If the client machine can access a Web browser, us e this procedure to down load the client software. 1 On a StorNext clien t, launch a b rowser and en ter the URL with the StorNext server name and port number.

78 Installing StorNext Client Software 4 Click Next . The Run Installation Program screen appears. 5 Click Browse . The Browse window appears. 6 In the Browse windo w’s Files of ty pe field, click the arrow to the ri ght and sele ct All Files .

This tab allows you to configure user authen tication. • Windows User Names : Select the Windows user name you would li ke to map.
88 Installing StorNext Client Software • File Creation Permissions check boxes: Select any combinat ion of these che ck boxes to set the default UNIX R (Read) or W (Write) access permissions for files created by the selected user. These permission check bo xes apply only to PCNFSD a nd NIS mapping methods, not to the Active Directo ry method.
