Some models are equipped with a buil t-in modem. ■ Connection to any communication lin e other than an analog phon e line could cause a computer system failure.

In this instance, you should purchase new batteries and replace the discharged ones.

User ’s Manual 4-1 Satellite A500/A500D Chapter 4 Operating Basics This chapter describes the basic operations of your computer an d highlights the precautions that should be taken when using it. Using the T ouch Pad T o use the T ouch Pad, simply touch and move your fingertip across it in the direction you want the on-screen pointer to go.

ChiralMotion Y ou can scroll vertically and ho rizontal ly . T o enable these features, select the Enable vertical scrolling and Enable horizontal scrolling check boxes.

User ’s Manual 4-9 Satellite A500/A500D Fingerprint Single Sign -on Feature General The Single Sign-On is a feature that allows the user to complete the authentication for both th e User Password (and opti onally , the HDD user and Supervisor passwords) and logging on to Windows using only one fingerprint authentica tion when booting u p.

TOSHIBA does not guarantee that the fingerprint utility will accurately screen out un authori zed user s at all times.
User ’s Manual 4-1 1 Satellite A500/A500D ■ When “USB Sleep-and-Charge functi on” is set to [En abled], USB bus power (DC5V) will be supplied to compatible ports even when the power of the computer is turned OFF . USB bus power (DC5V) is similarly supplied to the external devices which are connected to the compatible ports.
