20 Operating Your Appliance © Travis Industries 100-01177 4060802 Opening the Doors Typically the doors are only opened to start the fire. Use the Loading Lid to re-load the stove. Open the bypass first (this prevents smoke from entering the room). Open the latch.

When open, smoke goes directly up the flue, creating more draft. When closed, the smoke goes through the combustor, utilizing the secondary combustion system and making the heater more efficient.

Some use the boy-scout "tee-pee", some prefer the "tic-tac-toe" stack. Either way, review the hints and warnings below to ensure proper fire starting.

The closed container of ashes should be placed on a noncombustible floor or on the ground, away from all combustible materials, pending final disposal.

If the bypass does not latch to the closed position, it may be adjusted following the directions below.
