2 Gener al Inf ormation The Owner's Manual describes the installation and operation of the Jøtul F 602 USA non-catalytic wood heater . This heater meets the U .S. Environmental Protection Agency's emission limits for wood heaters sold after July 1, 1990.

8 USA Oper a tion Before building a fire in your new stove, please read the f ollowing sec tion carefully . The stov e is designed to burn natural wood only . Higher efficiencies and lower emissions generally result when burning air-dried seasoned hardwoods, as compared to softwoods or to green or freshly-cut hardwoods.
9 Air Control The sliding air control (See fig. 19 B, page 24 ) is located in the bottom center of the fr ont door . Sliding the control to the right opens the air control and increases the heat output; sliding it to the left closes the control and decreases the heat output.
10 W arning: Oper ate y our Jøtul F 602 USA only with the door fully closed. K eep the door fully closed except when loading fuel or removing ashes. A partially open door may result in overfiring. Maintenance General At least once a year , per f orm a routine maintenance check.

24 W all shield • Must be 1” off the wall and 1” of f the floor . • With single wall pipe, the shield must be 49” . • With the double wall pipe, the shield must be 37” high. • Both shields MUST extend and join in the corner . Combustible wall The wall shield must extend a minimum of 7” (178mm) past the front corner of the stove.

26 Appendix A: Alternate floor protection All floor protection materials must be non-combustible ie. Metal, brick, stone, mineral fiber boards). Any combustible material may not be used. The easiest means of determining if a proposed alternate floor material meets requirements listed in this manual is to follow this procedure.
