Cables and connectors CAUTION: When servi cing the computer, be sure that cables are placed in their proper locations during the reassembly proc ess. Improper cable placement can da mage the computer. Cables must be handled with extreme care to avoi d damage.

Remove the WLAN module: 1. Disconnect the WLAN antenna cables (1) from the terminals on the WLAN module. NOTE: The WLAN anten na cable labele d “1” connect s to the WLAN module “Main” terminal labeled “1”. The WLAN antenna cable lab eled “2 ” connects to the WLAN module “Aux” termina l labeled “2”.

3. Detach the RTC battery (3) from the bottom cover. (The RTC battery is at tached to the bottom cover by double-sided tape.) 4. Remove the RTC battery.

3. Remove the l eft and righ t rear c orner cov ers (3) . The rear corner covers are included in the bottom cove r spare part kit, spare part number 730887-001. 4. Disconnect the wireles s antenna cables (1) from the WLAN module. 5. Release the wirel ess antenna ca bles from the retentio n clips (2) and routing channel built into the bottom co ver.
7. Release the display panel cable from the retention clips (4) and routing channel built into the bottom co ver. 8. Remove the four Philli ps PM2.0× 5.5 screws (1) and the two Phillips PM2.5×10.5 screws (2) that secure the display assembly to the computer.
Reverse this procedure to install the display assembly. Power connector cable Description Spare part n umber Power connector cable (includes bracket) 730900-001 Before removing the power connector cable, follow these step s: 1.
5. Release the powe r connector (6) from the clips and mold built into the bottom cover. 6. Remove the power connector cable. Reverse this procedure to install the power connector ca ble.

If yo u are unsure whether the compu ter is off or in Hi bernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
3. Release the ZIF connecto r (3) to which the power button b oard ribbon cable is attached, and then disconnect the powe r button board ri bbon cable from the system board. 4. Remove the thirteen Phill ips PM2.0×4. 5 screws that secure the bott om cover to the top cover.

3. Release the speaker cable fr om the tabs (3) built into the system board. 4. Remove the three Phillips PM2.0×4.5 screws (1) that secure the system board to the top cover.
6. Remove the system board (3) by sliding it up and to the left an angle. Reverse this procedure to install the sy stem board. 7 Using Setup Utility (BIOS) and HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) Setup Utility, or Basic Input /Output System (BIOS) , controls communication between all the input and output device s on the system (such a s disk drives , display, keyboard, mouse, and printer).
3. To exit Setup Utility (BIOS) without saving your changes, use the arrow keys to select Exit , sele ct Exit Discarding Changes , and then press enter .

9 Backing up, restoring, and recovering Your computer inclu des tools provided by HP an d the operating syste m to help you safeguard your information an d retrieve it if you ever need to. Th ese tools will help you return y our computer to a proper working state or even back to the orig inal factory state, all with simple steps.
Creating recovery media and backups Recovery after a syste m failure is only as good as your most recent backup. 1. After you succe ssfully set up the compu ter, create HP Recovery med ia. This step creates a backup of the HP Recovery partition on the computer.
Creating HP Recovery media HP Recovery Manager is a software program that offers a way to creat e recovery media after you successfully set up the computer. HP Recovery medi a can be used to perform system recovery if the hard drive becomes corrupted.
Restore and recovery There are several options for recovering your system. Choose the method that best matches your situation and level of expertise: ● If you need to restore your per sonal files and data, you can use Windows File History to restore your informa tion from the ba ckups you c reated.

Using Windows Refresh for quick and easy recovery When your compute r is not working prop erly and yo u need to r egain system stability, the Win dows Refresh option allows you to start fres h and keep what is important to you.

Using the HP Recovery partition to recover a minimized image (select models only) The HP Recovery partition (select models only) al lows you to perform a minimized image recovery without the need for recovery di scs or a recovery US B fla sh drive. This type of recovery can only b e used if the hard drive is still working.
3. Select the optical drive or USB fl ash drive you want to boot from. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. Removing the HP Recovery partition HP Recovery Manager software a llows you to remove the HP Reco very partition to free up hard drive space.
