4 Removal and replacement procedures CAUTION: This computer does not have user-replace able pa rts. Only HP authorized service providers should perform the removal and replac ement procedures de scribed here. Access ing the internal part could damage the computer or void the warranty.
Cables must b e handled with extre me care to avoid damage. Apply only the tension required to unseat or seat the cables during removal and insertion. Ha ndle cables by the connector whenever possib le. In all cases, avoid bending, twisting, or tearing cables.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to the computer when you are removing or instal ling internal components, observe these precaution s: Keep components in their e lectr ostatic-safe containers until you are ready to install them. Before touching an electr onic compone nt, discha rge static elec tr icity by using the guidelines described in this section.
Packaging and transp orting guidelines Follow these grounding guidelines when packagin g and transporting equipment: ● To avoid hand co ntact, transport pr oducts in static-safe tube s, bags, or boxes . ● Protect ESD-sensitive part s and assemblies with co nductive or approved co ntainers or packaging.
Equipment guidelines Grounding equipment must include either a wrist st rap or a foot strap at a grounded workstation. ● When seated, wear a wrist strap connected to a gr ounded system. Wrist straps are flexible straps with a minimum of one megohm ±10% resistance in the ground cords.
Component replacement procedures This chapter provides remova l and replacement procedures. There are as many as 114 screws that must be removed, replaced, or lo osened when servicing the computer. Make special note of each s crew si ze and loc ation during removal and replacement.

3. Remove the WLAN module by pulling the mo dule away from the slot at an angle (3) . NOTE: If the WLAN antennas are not connected to th e terminals on the WLAN module, the protective sleeves must be installed on the antenna connec tors.

3. Remove the 2 P hillips PM 2.0×2.0 broadh ead screws (2) that secure the speaker/subwoofer to the computer. NOTE: Make sure the rubber grommets are installed in the screw holes (3) when installing the speaker/subwoofer. 4. Remove the subwoofe r (4) .
Remov e the USB/audio board: 1. Disconnect USB/audio connector cable (1) from the system board. 2. Remove the cable from the adhesive th at secures it to the keyboard frame (2) . 3. Disconnect the USB/audio cable (3 ) . 4. Disconnect the subwoofer speaker cable (4) .
6. Remove the RJ-45 module cover (see RJ-45 modu le cover on page 40 ). 7. Remove the USB/audio board (see USB/audio bo ard on page 42 ). Remove the power co nnector cable: ▲ Remove the power connect or cable from its routing path (1) , and then remove the power connector and cable (2) from the comput er.
3. Lift up on the board to disconnect the conn ector on the bottom of the board from the system board, and then remove the card reader board from t he computer (3) . Reverse this procedure to inst all the card reader board. Fan Description Spare part number Fan 725445-001 Before removing the fan: 1.

2. Rotate the hinge up ward to gain acc e ss to the speaker (3) . 3. Remove the Phillips PM2.0×3.5 broadh ea d screw that sec ures the right speaker (1) . 4. Remove the right speake r from the computer (2) . Reverse this procedure to ins tall the right speaker.
Keyboard NOTE: The keyboard spare part kit incl udes a keyboard cable. Description Spare part number: Keyboard bracket 725441-001 Backlit keyboard for use in the United States 725450-001 Backlit keyboard for use in Canada 725450-DB1 Before removing the keyboard, follo w these steps: 1.
2. Lift up (1) to top of the brac ket, and then remo ve the keyboard assembl y (2) from the computer. 3. Remove the 2 silver Phi llips PM2.0×3.0 screws (1) that secure the keyboard to the bracket, and then remove the keyboard from the bracket (2) . Reverse this procedure to install the keyboard.
TouchPad module Before removing the TouchPad bu tton board, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are uns ure whether the computer is o ff or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external device s connected to the computer.
Display assembly, non-touchscreen Description Spare p art number Display assembly, FHD, non-touch 727461-001 Display assembly, HD, non-touch 727462-001 Before removing the display assembly, follow these s teps: 1.
4. Lift the computer up to an angle (4) , and then pull the display assembly away from the computer (5) . 5. Remove the 2 screw covers (1) and the 2 PhillipsPM 2.0×2.5 screws (2) from the bottom corners of the bezel. 6. Loosen the top edge of the plastic bezel c over (3) from all four sides of the display panel.
8. If you need to remove the display hinges, remove the 5 Phillips PM2.5×3.0 screws (1) that secure each hinge to the display , and th en lift the hinge off the display (2) . The display hinges are available usin g the following spare part num bers: ● 725448-001 : Non-touchscreen models ● 725449-001 : Touchscreen models 9.
Raw display panels are available usin g the following spare part numbers: ● 725454-001 : HD, non-touch ● 725455-001 : HD, touchscreen ● 725456-001 : FHD, non-touch ● 725457-001 : FHD, touchscreen 11. Lift the adhesive strip atop the display panel connecto r on the back of the raw display panel (1) , and then disconnect the display cable.
13. If you need to replace the WLAN antennas and tran sceivers, remove the antennas from routing clips on the side of the display enclosur e (1) , and then lift the antennas out of the display enclosure (2) . The WLAN ante nnas and transceivers rout e to the bottom of the display enclosure.
Display assembly, touchscreen Description Spare p art number Display assembly, FHD, touchscreen 727459-001 Display assembly, HD W LED, touchscreen 727460-001 Before removing the display assembly, follow these s teps: 1.
4. Lift the computer up to an angle (4) , and then pull the display assembly away from the computer (5) . 5. To separate the display enclosure, remove the 2 screw covers (1) and 2 silver Phillips PM 2.5×3.0 screws (2) from the bottom of th e display panel assembly.
7. If you need to replac e the webcam modu le from the display e nclosure, lift the we bcam up to disengage the adhesive tape that se cures the webcam to the enclosure (1) , and then disconnect the webcam cable (2) . 8. If you need to remove the display hinges, from each hinge remove the 3 Phil lips PM 2.
10. If you need to remove the WLAN antennas/transcei vers, lift the tape that secures the transceivers to the display panel (1) (2) , and then lift the antennas/tran sceivers from the di splay panel assembly.
11. If you need to remove the disp lay panel, remove the display cable from the rear of the panel (1) , and (if necessary) remove the WLAN antenna tra nsceiver tape fr om the display panel (2) (3) .
13. If you need to remove the disp lay cable, noting the routing cl ips on the sides of the display enclosure, lift the cable from the displa y enclosure.
5 Setup Utility (BIOS) and System Diagnostics Using Setup Utility Setup Utility, or Basic Input/Outp u t System (BIOS), controls communication between all the input a nd output devices on the s ystem (such as d isk drives, display, keyboard, mouse, and printer).
Navigating and selecting in Setup Utility To navigate and select in Se tup Utility, follow these steps: 1. Turn on or restart the computer, and then press es c while the “Press the ESC key for Startup Menu” message is dis played at the bottom of the screen.
Restoring factory settings in Setup Utility NOTE: Restoring defaults will not change the hard drive mode. To return all settings in Setup Util ity to the values that were set at the factory, follow these steps: 1.
BIOS version information (also known as ROM date and System BIOS ) can be displayed by pressing fn + esc (if you are already in Windows) or by using Setup Util ity (BIOS).
4. Double-click the fi le that has an .exe ext ension (for example, filename .exe). The BIOS installation begins. 5. Complete the installation by follo wing the on-screen instructions. NOTE: After a message on the scree n reports a su ccessful installation, you can delete the downloaded file from your hard drive.

7 Backup and recovery To protect your in formation, use Windows Backup and Restore utilities to back up individual files and folders, back up your entire hard dr ive, create system repair media (select models only) by using the installed optical drive (select models only) or an option al external op tical drive, or c reate system restor e points.
To create a backup u sing Windows Backup and Restore: NOTE: Be sure that the computer is connected to AC power before you start the backup process. NOTE: The backup process may take over an hour, de pending on file size and the speed of the computer. 1.

Using Windows Refresh for quick and easy recovery When your computer is not working pr operly and yo u need to regain system stability, the Windows Refresh option allows you to start fres h and keep what is impo rtant to you. IMPORTANT: Refresh removes any traditional applications th at were not originally installed on the system at the factory.
To use the Start screen: 1. On the Start screen, point to the far-right upper or lower corner of the screen to display the charms. 2. Click Settings . 3. Click Change PC settings in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and then select General from the PC settings screen.
8 Power cord set requirements The wide-range input feature of the computer permit s it to operate from a ny line voltage from 100 to 120 volts AC, or from 220 to 240 volts AC.
