Page 10 Page 1 1 Power Button This turns the main po wer t o the IPS-1 on or o . I t is a main power button, but it is not required to turn this on and o each time the IPS-1 is used.
Page 10 Page 1 1 RCA Inputs The IPS -1 has one RCA input available for each amplier channel module. Connect this to the corresponding RCA jack on y our preamplier to pro vide signal t o the ampli- er channel. See page 15 for a connec tion diagram.
Page 12 Page 13 T urn On Selector Switch This switch allows you to select how the amplier will turn on and o . In the ON (Up) position, the switch on the front of the amplier is the method you will use to power up and power down the amplier .
Page 12 Page 13 Installation and Connections Obser ve the f ollowing precautions when choosing a location for y our Emotiva IPS-1: 1) Protect it fr om prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and other dir ec t sources of heat, such as heating vents and r adiators.
Page 14 Page 15 Output Connection Considerations The output connectors provided on each channel of the IPS-1 are standar d “binding post ” speaker co nnecto rs with ind ustry stand ard spa cing . Thes e are some times c alled 5- way bi nding p osts bec ause of the many ways in which the speaker wire can connect into the posts.
Page 14 Page 15 Connection Diagrams Input Connections If your preamplier has RCA outputs, it can easily be connected to the amplier inputs as shown. The amplier will boost the preamplier’ s output, up to a level suitable for driving speakers.
Page 16 Page 17 12V T rigger Connections The 12 VDC trigger connec tion shown can be used to turn the amplier on when the preamplier turns on. This trigger will ac tually trigger with an y switched DC V olta ge from 5-2 4 VD C, howe ver the majo rity of h ome theater components use a standard 12 VDC trigger connection for this function.
Page 16 Page 17 Series and Parallel Speaker Connections Whenever c onnec ting more than one speaker per channel to an amplier (regardless of the br and), you must consider the way in which the amplier will be impac ted by adding the additional speaker(s).
Page 18 Page 19 Parallel A parallel circuit is established when voice coils are connected in a way that there are multiple paths for audio signals to ow “in ” and multiple paths for audio sig nals to ow “ out ” .

Page 20 Page 21 The Front Speakers Y ou should closely follo w the placemen t recommendations of your speaker manufac turer , with the addition of the fol- lowing points: • The left and right front speakers should be positioned so that your T V is exactly centered between them.
Page 22 Page 23 Side-Axis Speakers Some preamplier processors featur e side -axis channels which are matrixed and derived from the lef t and right front channels, so they are available in stereo as well as surround modes. I f available as a fea ture, the processor should have a set-up menu to turn the SIDE-AXIS channels ON or OFF .
Page 22 Page 23 Surround Back Speakers Many preamplier processors feature additional outputs f or surround back speakers. T hese create a wonderful sense of r ealism in surr ound eects during pla yback of Dolby Digital EX, Dolb y P ro L ogic IIx, and DT S ES.

Most problems that occur can usually be solved by check ing your setup or mak ing sure that the audio and video components connected to the amplier ar e on and fully operational.
Page 26 Page 27 Poor Bass Performance From Full Range Speakers connected to the IPS-1 • Make sure that y our preamp does not have the bass (tone contr ol) level turned down. • Many surround preampliers have contr ols which c an direct all the bass to sub woofers or let your main speakers play the full r ange.
