7 7 Fail-Safe Darkening When you pick up an unener gized Speedglas f ilter , it is in an intermediate dark shade; you must turn it ON to make it go into the light state. If an ything catastrophic happens to the f ilter , it simply defaults back to the darker intermediate OFF shade.
