20 Pr eparat ions LCD Backlight When re cor ding in b right pl aces i t may be difficult to use t he LCD screen. T urn on the LCD backlight to make it brighter . With th e cam cor der on, hold pres sed do wn fo r mor e than 2 seconds. Repeat this act ion to switch the LCD backlight between off (normal) and on (bri ght) .

26 Pr eparat ions First Ti me Settings Setting the Date and Time Y ou will need to set the date and time of the camco rder before yo u can star t using it. The [Date/Time ] screen will appear a utomatical ly whe n the cam- corder’ s clock is not set.
Prep arati ons 27 Changing the Language The default lang uage of the cam- cord er is English. Y ou can set it to one of 26 other languages. NOTES • The displays and that appear in some menu scr eens refer to the name of buttons on the c amcorder and will not change, regard less of the language sel ected.
28 Pr eparat ions Using a Memor y Card Memor y Cards Com patible f or Use with the Cam corder Y ou can use commer cially available Secure Di gital (SD) card s with this camcor der . However , dependi ng on the memory car d, you may not be able to recor d movies.
Prep arati ons 29 SDXC Memory Cards As of May 2010, SDXC memory cards have been tested to work under Windows 7. Fo r details on whether y our computer's o perating system is SDXC-co mpatible, check with your comp uter's m anufactur er .
30 Pr eparat ions Inserting and Removing a Memor y Card Make sure to i nitialize ( 31) all memory car ds befor e using them with this camcor d er . 1 T urn off the camcorder . Make sur e the ON/OFF (CHG) ind icator is off. 2 Slide the memory card slot cover away from the l ens and open it.

Video 47 Advanced Functions Automatic Exposure and Special Scene Recording Programs The r ecordi ng prog ram determi nes how much control you have over the camcor d er’ s recor ding-re lated settings . Select the [ Pro- grammed AE] recording program to give you full control over functions like the white ba lance or image effects.
