5 How to Select a DVD Disc There are many types of DVD discs but this camcorder uses only the followi ng three types of 8 cm mini DVD discs: DVD-R, DVD-R DL and DVD-R W . Read the differences between them and select the di sc that best fits your needs.
6 Adv antages of Using DVDs No need to worry about r ecording over a tape. When you use a DVD, the camcor der will automatically record o n the empty space of the disc. So you don't hav e to worry about mistakenly r ecording ov er a precious memory .
7 Available features depend on the DVD disc used 1 Only scen es in the playlist can be divided. 2 Disc finalizat ion is the processing of the free space (the unrecorded area) on the disc in order to mak e it playable on external DVD devices ( 48 ). Play back cannot be guaranteed with a ll external DVD devices.

Video • 39 Flexible Recording: Ch anging the Shutter Speed Use the automatic exposure (AE) program to use functi ons like the whit e balance or im age effects, or give prio rity to the shutter speed. Use faster shutter speeds to record subjects moving qu ickly .

42 • Video Manual Exposure Adjustment At times, backlit subjects may appear too dark (underexpo sed) or subjects under very strong lights may appear too bright or glarin g (overexposed). T o correct this, you can manually adjust the exposure. POINTS TO CHECK Mode switch: (except for the [ FI RE WO RKS ] re co rdi ng prog ra m) .

48 • Video Finalizing the Disc T o play the disc you recorded on a DVD player , a computer’ s DVD drive or other digital device, you need to finalize it first . Y o u do not need to finalize the disc to play back your r ecordings with the camcorder connected to the TV .
Video • 49 Disc Playback on External Devices After finalizing th e disc with yo ur recor dings, you can play it on DVD players compati ble with the type of disc used (DVD-R, DVD-R DL or DVD-R W). Y ou cannot play back discs on an external DVD device if the discs have not yet been finalized.
