7 650BD azur ENGLISH Disc care and handling BD-ROM compatibility • T o keep the disc clean from scratches or fingerprints, handle the disc by its edge. Do not t ouch the recording sur face. • Blu-ray Discs record data in v er y high density and the record lay er is very close to the disc sur face.
8 Rear panel connections Digital outputs Optical and Coaxial digital audio outputs, normally used to connect to a suitable Audio/Video R eceiver for surround sound decoding (output must be set for " Bitstream " - ref er to the " Audio setup " section).
9 650BD azur ENGLISH F ront panel F ront panel display Standby/On Switches the unit between Standby mode (indicat ed by a dim power LED) and On (indicated b y a bright power LED). Standby is a low po wer mode where the power consum ption is less than 1 watt.
10 Remote control The Azur 650BD is supplied with a remote contr ol. Inser t the 3 supplied AAA batteries t o activate. For further details of the various adjustment functions a vailable, refer to the later sections of this manual. Opens and closes the disc tray .
11 650BD azur ENGLISH Connecting to the Internet The 650BD suppor ts the BD-Live f eature of fered on some Blu-ra y Disc titles. BD-Live offers extra do wnloadable content and additional online interactiv e programs.
12 Analogue stereo The analogue stereo outputs should be used f or play back of CDs, DVDs etc in stereo thr ough a conventional amplifier or A V receiver with analogue stereo inputs. Analogue stereo is also usually the best connection method f or listening to CDs and other st ereo discs for best possible sound quality .
13 650BD azur ENGLISH Analogue video connections HDMI connections The 650BD can output video in both fully digital (HDMI) and analogue (Composite, S-Video and Com ponent) formats. If your TV set suppor ts HDMI then this is the preferred f ormat (see next section).
14 Setting up the play er Accessing the Easy Setup Wizard When the play er is turned on for the first time, an Easy Setup Wizard screen will appear . This is a series of guided instructions designed to configure the basic settings for the unit.
15 650BD azur ENGLISH Select the audio setting The Blu-ray disc f ormat brings not only high resolution video, but also high bit rate audio such as Dolb y Digital Plus, Dolby T rueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution and D TS-HD Master Audio.
16 Operating instructions Getting started T urn on the power of the 650BD, TV, am plifier/AV receiv er and any other components which are connected t o the 650BD. Make sure the T V and the audio receiver are set to the correct in put channel. 1. Press the Open/Close button t o open the disc tray .
17 650BD azur ENGLISH Audio language (soundtrack) selection 1. T o select the audio language, press and hold the Audio/Subtitle button on the remote contr ol during playback. 2. Repeatedly pressing the Audio/Subtitle butt on cycles through all av ailable audio soundtracks on the disc.
18 Operating instructions continued Depending on how the studios organise their BD-Live cont ents, some Blu-ray discs may start downloading BD-Live cont ent when playback star ts; some hav e a BD-Live.
Note : Via USB, the 650BD can pla y WMA and MP3 files only. The 650BD cannot play AA C files . In the music bro wser, y ou can per form the f ollowing operations: Press the buttons or Page butt ons to move the cursor and select music files.
20 Media playback continued The follo wing operations are available while the " Now Pla ying " screen is shown: Normal playback control – / , , / , , and . Special playback mode – R epeat and Shuffle/Random (Blue colour button).
21 650BD azur ENGLISH Setup Menu T o access the player’s Setup Menu simply press the Setup button on the remote contr ol. Since some Setup Menu options can become inaccessible when the play er is playing a disc, it is recommended that you operate the Setup Menu when pla yback is fully stopped or when there is no disc in the play er.
22 2. Aut o Play Mode (on/of f) T o select whether the player willl start playing an audio CD or SACD automatically . When auto pla y mode is turn on, these discs will star t playing upon insertion into the play er . When auto play mode is turned off, the play er will wait for the user to start playback by pressing the PLA Y button.
1. Picture Adjustment This is used to adjust picture contr ol parameters. The 650BD provides a wide array of picture contr ols. Please refer to the " Picture Adjustment " section of this manual for details of each contr ol. 2. Primary Output T o select the primar y video output method.
24 Setup menu continued 8. Screen Saver T o turn on/of f the screen saver function. The screen sa ver is designed to minimize burn-in concerns for plasma and CRT displa y devices. The av ailable options are: On – After about 3 minutes of inactivity , the player will sho w an animated Cambridge Audio logo mo ving on a black back ground.
25 650BD azur ENGLISH 1. Secondar y Audio T o set the Secondar y Audio Program mixing option. Some Blu-ra y discs contain a secondary audio and video program, such as a director’s commentary. Some Blu-ra y Discs have a sound effect when you mak e menu choices.
26 Audio signal reference char t Blu-ray Discs ma y contain many types of audio signal formats, some of those are of the high resolution lossless types such as Dolby T rueHD and DTS-HD Mast er Audio. Blu-ray Discs also ha ve many optional audio components such as the Secondary Audio Program and the menu clicking sound.
27 650BD azur ENGLISH Recommended audio f ormat 0ptions Depending on your specific audio/video connection method, the audio format options of the 650BD ma y need to be adjusted t o match your configuration. Please refer t o the video and audio connection methods described previously in this guide and the f ollowing audio setup guidelines.
28 Down Mix Mode Down mix is the pr ocess of converting multi-channel audio to a lesser number of channels. For e xample, converting a 5.1ch sour ce to stereo or conv er ting a 7 . 1ch source to 5. 1ch. Down mixing allows the audio output from the pla yer to match the exact number of speak ers available in your home theatre system.
29 650BD azur ENGLISH 3. T rim The speaker trim le vel parameters sets the volume of each individual channel. For most accurat e results, it is recommended that you use test tones fr om a calibration disc, such as Digital Video Essentials HD Basics, and a SPL (Sound Pressure Lev el) meter .
30 5. Dimmer Control T o control the display intensity of the fr ont panel Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) inf ormation window . In case you feel that the displa y becomes a distraction to your enjo yment of the video, this option allows you to dim it or turn it off.
31 650BD azur ENGLISH 5. DNS 1 The IP address of the first (primar y) DNS (Domain Name System) server . DNS is the mechanism to translat e human-readable addresses to numeric IP addresses. When " IP Configuration " is set to " A uto (DHCP) " , the value displa yed here is obtained using DHCP and cannot be changed.
