1 Start Here MFC-290C Quick Se tup Guide US/CAN Version 0 Before you can use th e machin e, read this Q uick Setup Guide f or the correc t setup and in stallation. 1 Unpack the machine and chec k the components WARNING Plastic bags are used in the packaging of your mach ine.
2 2 Load plai n Letter/ A4 pap er a Pull the pape r tray a co mp le tely o ut of the machine. b Open the paper tray cover a . c With both hands, gently press and slide the paper side guides a and then the pape r length guide b to fit the pape r size.
3 g Close the paper tray cover a . h Slowly push the pap er tray completely into t he machine. i While holding the paper tray in place, pull out the paper support a until it cli cks, and then unfold the paper suppo rt flap b .
4 3 Connect the power co rd an d te leph one line a Connect the power c ord . b Connect the t elephone line cord. Connect one end of the tele phone li n e cord to the jack on the machine m arked LI NE a nd the other end t o a mod ular w all jack . Im porta nt DO NOT connect the USB cabl e yet.
5 4 Inst all the i nk cartri dges WARNING If i nk gets in your eyes , wash them out with water at once, an d i f irritation occurs consult a doc t o r. a M ak e su re t h a t t h e po w er i s t ur n ed on . The LCD shows: No Cartridge b Open the ink cartridge cover a .
6 h Gently pu sh the ink cartri dge until it clicks. After all the ink car tri dges are i nst alled cl ose th e ink cartridg e cover. Note The ma c hine wi ll prep are the ink tube system for print ing. This proc ess w ill tak e ap prox imatel y four minutes.
7 5 Check the pri nt quali ty a When the preparation proces s has finished, the LCD shows this messa ge . Set Paper and q Press Start Pre ss Color Start . b Check the quality of the f our color blocks a on the sheet. (black/yellow/cyan/mag enta) c If all li nes are clear an d visible, press 1 ( Yes ) on the dial pad t o finish t he quality check.
8 7 Choose the corr ect Receive Mode The correc t Receive M o de is determine d by the external devices and t elephone subsc riber services (Voic e Mail, Distinctive Ring, etc.) you have (or will be using) on the same l ine as the Brother machine. a Pre ss Men u .
