CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS 10 En This section describes the f unction of each button on the Zone 2 remote control, which is used to control Zone 2. The Zone 2 remote control comes w ith a battery a lready installed. Before using the Zone 2 remote control for the very first time, pull out the insulatio n sheet, as shown.

CONNECTIONS 12 En • Do not connect this unit or other components to the ma in power until all connecti ons between components are complete. • All connections must be correct: L (left) to L, R (right) to R, “+” to “+” and “–” to “– ”.
13 En CONNECTIONS PREP ARA TION ■ IMPEDANCE SELECTOR switch Do not change the IMPE DANCE SELECTOR switch while the power of this unit is turned on, as doing so may damage the unit. If the unit fai ls to turn on, the IMPEDANCE SELECTO R switch may not be fully slid to either position.
14 En CONNECTIONS Indoor antennas for receiving FM and AM broadcasts are included with this uni t. In general, th ese antennas should provide suf f icient signal strength. Connect each antenna correctly to th e designated terminals. If you experience poor reception quality , instal l an outdoor antenna.
15 En CONNECTIONS PREP ARA TION Removing the jumper pins from the PRE OUT/MAIN IN jacks enables this unit to ope rate separately as a control amplifier or a power amplifier . These jacks are used to connect a signal-processing system such as a graphic equalizer or a surround-sound processor to this unit.
PLAYING AND RECORDING 16 En Extreme caution should be exercised when you play back CDs encoded in DTS. If you play back a CD encoded in DTS on a CD player that does not support DTS, only noise wi ll be heard, and this noise may damage your speakers. Check whether your CD player supports CDs encoded in DTS.
17 En PLAYING AND RECORDING BAS I C OPERA TION ■ Using the CD DI RECT AMP s witc h (R-S700 on ly) Routes input signals from your CD player directly to the specially built-in amplif ier for the CD player .
18 En PLAYING AND RECORDING ■ Adjusting the B ASS and TREBLE contr ols The BASS and TREBLE cont rols adjust high and low frequency response. The center position produces a flat response. BAS S When you feel there is not enough bass (low frequency sound), rotate clockwise to b oost.
19 En PLAYING AND RECORDING BAS I C OPERA TION • Audio signals are not output to the T APE REC or LINE 1 REC output jacks when T APE or LI NE 1 is selected with the REC OUT selector .
FM/AM TUNING 20 En There are 2 tuning methods; automatic and manual. Select either met hod according to your preference and the strength of station signals.
21 En FM/AM TUNING BAS I C OPERA TION Manual tuning is effective when station signals are weak. 1 Rotate the INPUT select or on the front panel (or press TUNER on the remote contro l) to select TUNER as the input source. 2 Press FM or AM on the front panel (or FM or AM on the remote control) to select the reception band (FM or AM).
22 En FM/AM TUNING Y ou can use the automatic st ation p reset function to automatically register FM stations as presets. This function enables this unit to automat ically tune in to FM stations that have a strong signal and store up to 40 of those stations in order .
23 En FM/AM TUNING BAS I C OPERA TION Y ou can manually register up to 40 FM/AM stations (40 total). Y ou can then easily recall any preset station by selecting its preset number . 1 T une in to the desire d FM/AM station. See pages 20 and 21 for tuning instr uctions.
24 En FM/AM TUNING Y ou can recall preset stations that were registered using automatic station preset or manual stat ion preset . 1 Press PRESET j / i on the front panel (or PRESET F / G on the remote co ntro l) to select a preset number . y • Preset numbers to which no stations are registered are skipped.
25 En FM/AM TUNING BAS I C OPERA TION Follow the s teps below to c lear all preset stations. 1 Rotate the INPUT select or on the front panel (or press TUNER on the remote contro l) to select TUNER as the input sourse. 2 Press OPTION on the remote control.
LISTENING TO SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO™ 26 En Listening to Satellite Radio T o listen to Satellite Ra dio, you’ll need to connect a SI RIUS Satellite Ra dio tuner (sold separately ) to your Sirius-Ready receiver . SIRIUS Satellite Radio is available to res ide nts of the US (except Alas ka and Hawaii) and Canada.

ZONE 2 45 En AD V ANCED OPERA TION This unit allows you to configure a multi -room audio system. The Zone 2 feature enables you to set this unit to reproduce separate input sources in the main room and in Zone 2 (the second room) simultaneously . Y ou can control this unit from the second room using the supplied remote control.
46 En ZONE 2 Use the supplied remote contro l, Zone 2 remote contro l (R-S700 only) or front panel to control the input source or adjust the sound output level of Zone 2 independently of the listening conditions in the main room. * Sound output level can be ad justed on the R-S700 only .
REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES 47 En AD V ANCED OPERA TION The remote control can be used to control not only this unit, but al so seven other audio-vi sual components (TV , DVD player , VCR, etc.
48 En REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES • When using only one TV : Assign the TV’ s remote control code to the TV A button. The TV control buttons always control your TV , regardless of the selected input source.
49 En REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES AD V ANCED OPERA TION T o use this unit’ s remote control to control other components (TV , DVD player , VCR, etc.), determine the remote control code that corresponds to the component and assign that code to the de sired input sele ctor button on the remote control.

Se non hai ancora comprato il Yamaha R-S500 è un buon momento per familiarizzare con i dati di base del prodotto. Prime consultare le pagine iniziali del manuale d’uso, che si trova al di sopra. Le informazioni sul Yamaha R-S500 ti aiuteranno sicuramente a prendere una decisione relativa all’acquisto.
