POV .HD Shoot, T ag, Edit, Share The POV .HD makes it easy to shoot great HD video , tag interesting shots while y ou’ re r ecording, edit videos on the recor der while in the fi eld, and share your videos .
What’ s In The Bo x? The POV .HD you purchased contains ev er ything you need to take high quality HD video . The POV .HD is built on a modular design that allows you maximum fl exibility in how y ou mount the HD camera head, which in turn makes it possible f or you to optimize the video you captur e for your intended purpose .
USB Cable & Analog A/V Cable The POV .HD comes with two cables for connecting to other devices . The USB cable allows you to connect the recorder t o a computer using USB 2 for uploading or possibly downloading video clips.
Get Ready The POV .HD is shipped with ever ything you need to start making great videos in HD , but a bit of assembly is required bef ore you get started. W atch the video tutorials The POV .HD comes preloaded with video tutorials that demonstrat e all the most impor tant aspects of setting up and using your POV .
2. Remove the Input/Output cov er from the bottom of the recor der , and install the SD card included with the POV .HD. • Unscrew the retaining scr ew . • The Input/Output cover has a snug , water-tight fi t. T o remove the co ver , use a coin or small fl at bladed screw driver to pr y at either of the two arrow s on the cover .
Attach the camer a head to the recorder Please watch the C amera Head Cable Connection tutorial before c onnec ting the camera head to the recor der . 1.
Check the rec order and camera head 1. Pr ess the Pow er button on the recorder . The rec order will take a few seconds to boot up . 2. When the recor der is ready , the L CD will show what the camera head is viewing , and the upper left corner of the L CD will display the word “Standby” , indicating that it is r eady to recor d.
Check the wireless r emote 1. With the r ecorder power ed up and in Standby , and with the wireless remote within 5 f eet of the recor der , press REC/T AG on the remote .
Using the POV .HD Recorder Butt ons and S oft Keys Soft Keys The functions of the soft keys change with the operating mode of the recorder . At any g iven time the function of each sof t key is indicated at the bottom of the L CD .
Po wer Up/Pow er D own The P ower button turns the r ecorder on and o ff . T o power up the r ecorder , press the Pow er button. The r ecorder will take a few seconds t o go through its power up sequence , and when it has fi nished, it will be in Record S tandby mode.
Other than k nowing that they exist, the important thing to know about operating modes is that the POV .HD can operate in only one mode at a time. This means you cannot be adjusting settings while recor ding or viewing video clips while compiling a highlight clip.
Loop rec ords a shor t clip every time you press TA G (or REC/T AG on the r emote). The saved clip , referred to as a loop , includes action immediately before y ou press TA G , as well as action immediately f ollowing. Loop & F or ward r ecords no video until you pr ess TA G (or REC/T AG on the remot e) for the fi rst time.
F ile Names on the POV .HD F iles containing video made with the POV .HD are r eferred to as clips . R aw clips, tha t is clips that are the direct result of rec ording video with the POV .HD are named using the dat e and time at which the recor ding star ted.
Pr eviewing Video on the Recor der Y ou can preview y our video clips on the recorder . Previewing y our clips lets you see that your videos are looking good and make any adjustments that might be nec essar y . I t also lets you delete any un wanted clips to free up space on the SD car d.
Y ou access Sav e T ags and Compile T ags in the Settings menu. Both of these features may take many minutes t o run. W hile they are running, they display the curr ent status of their processing on the L CD . In the example, Save T ags is cur rently pr ocessing clip 6 out of 8 total, and is creating tag clip 3 out of 5 total on clip #6.
T o upload fi les using a fl ash memor y card reader: • Make sure the POV .HD is not recording video . Removing the SD card while rec ording will cause the entire clip to be c orrupted. • Remove the SD car d from the recorder and put it int o the card reader .
Changing the Remote ID Channel - On the Remote C ontrol If you are using more than one POV .HD and/or POV .1.5 system in the same area, at the same time you will need to adjust the Remote ID channel numbers that the wir eless remotes are using t o communicate with the POV r ecorders so that each POV is using a di ff erent channel .
Settings Using the built-in settings, y ou can con fi gure the POV .HD to create optimal video in ev er y shooting situation, maximize battery life, select rec ording methods, set the time and date , and per form in- fi eld editing .
Video F ile F ormat Sets the encapsulation codec used to rec ord video on the POV .HD. Options : .mov .mp4 Default : .mp4 Record Method Sets the method by which you contr ol the recording and tagging of video or capture of still photos .
Sharpening Increases the perceiv ed sharpness of the recorded image by increasing the contr ast along the edges of objec ts in the frame. Options : ON/OFF Default : ON Note : If you intend to do editing on a video clip after it is uploaded to a computer , you should turn Sharpening OFF when the clip is recor ded.
P ower-o ff Timeout Sets the idle time required bef ore the recorder shuts do wn. P ower-o ff Timeout will not occur while you ar e recording video or during video playback. Any use of the soft keys or other buttons on the recor der resets the P ower-o ff Timeout timer .
Tips and guidelines f or getting the most out of your POV .HD Over time you will learn from experience exactly how y ou want to con fi gure the POV .HD settings for the conditions y ou shoot in. This section will help get you star ted and answer some basic questions about how to use the settings .

remote (St op Recording). The green ar ea on the timeline indicates what video footage is actually captured. In all three examples, the T ag button was pressed three times: at 00:02:06, at 00:05:54, and at 00:07:18. The examples show ho w the results are di ff erent in all thr ee cases.

Y ou ’ve made a ten minute clip with tags at 2:06, 5:54, and 7:18, and the L oop Record Time is set to 30 seconds. If you run Sav e T ags, you will get 3 new clips—one for each tag.
The example below sho ws the fi le struc ture that r esults from running Save T ags and Compile T ags on the tagged clip example used earlier . All tag clips are in the “tags” subdirectory and are identi fi ed with “_tag_xxxxx ” where xxxxx = the number of seconds after the star t of the clip at which the tag occurred.
In all other cases, making a complete, tagged rec ording using Clip or Loop & F or ward pr ovides more choices in ho w to handle the recorded video clip after you make it. Loop Rec ording Save T ags A pplied to a T agged Clip The length of all loop clips is equal to twice the value of Loop Recor d Time at time the recording was done.

Complianc e, W arranty , and Suppor t FC C Compliance The POV .HD has been tested and found to c omply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to P ar t 15 of the FCC rules . These limits are designed to pr ovide reasonable prot ec tion against harmful inter fer ence in a residential installation.
