Last but not leas t. As you've probably noticed, we c an't help but p raise our little baby ex- trava gantly at every opport unity. We ho pe you enjoy your NOXON audio a s m u c h a s w e d o , and would like to sugge st that you browse th is manual in detai l when you ge t the chance.
You need to b e aware of some basic info rmation before yo u start ... Setup, safety an d care information. · Please place the device on an even, dry su rface to prevent fire and elect rical shock hazards as well as possible d a mage to t he player itself.
From openin g the package to inst allation Start by maki ng su re that the contents of the pac kage are complete. The NOXON package should contain a t least the follo wing items: The NOXON receiver module, toget her with two fashionable plastic feet, a devi ce-specific power suppl y, an audio cabl e (3.
Co n n e c t i o n s . Once you have removed the packaging mat erial, connect the NOXON to an A C outlet using the included po wer supply. The plug o f the power su pply can only be inserted in one of the two sockets on t he device. Please use only the included power supply wit h the NOXON.
Network in tegr ation—one wa y or the other . Before we ac tually start settin g up the NOXON, w e have to mak e a distin ction between two different ways of integratin g the audio adapter. Ad hoc con- nection NOXON au- dio A - direct communication.
Set ting up a dir ect (ad hoc) connection to your PC. To est ablish a direct connect ion to a co mputer—in most cases a not ebook with an integrated wirele ss network adapter—let's fi rst have a look at how to set u p a Windo ws PC for an ad ho c network so that t he NOXON can access it.
Double-click the net work connect ion you will be using, followed by “P roperties” to open its settings. Go t o the “Wireless Net - works” tab for an overview similar to the one shown h ere. Some wireless adapters provide these functions via their own software, in which case you should find comparab le instruc- tions in its documentation.
In the already-familiar window, click “Add...” to assign a variety of paramet ers to your a d hoc netw ork. First ente r the name of the network , also known as the SSID (Service Set Identifier). The other option s shown would work with the NOXON and can be selected.
Pre paring to use the device with a wirele ss r outer . Using the NOXON wit h a wireless router generally do es not require any configu- ration work on the router itself. This, howe ver, depends on the extent to whi ch the netw ork has been s et up with an e ye toward s ecurity.
To identif y or not t o identify : the MAC address. The so-called MAC address is a unique identifier assigned a ll network d evices. The MAC ad- dress is permanent ly assigned to the device and cannot be modified.
But now, switch on the NO X ON. When setting up the N OXON, it's no longer ne cessary to dis tinguish between the ty pes of n et- work in which the dev ice will be used, as it supports all types—direct, or connectio ns via ac- cess points.
In this case and others, it will be nec essary to enter letters using the n umerical keypad of th e remote control. For more information, please see the “The remote cont rol.
Open the Internet Explorer, select “Internet Opt ions” from the “Tool s” menu and select the “Connections” t ab. On the bottom third of the tab, you'll find the “LAN Settings...” but - ton. P ress the button to open the dialog box shown here.
Also with profiles. By the w ay, you can s tore up to th ree such network pr ofiles—t hat way you don't have to e nter a full set of parameters every time you move th e NOXON to a different network. The profiles can be edited easily wi th the N OXON Manager PC application.
Playing MP 3/WMA files from t he local netw ork. MP3 / WMA file UPnP server (Musicmatch) Computer in network NOXON audio You can share music files for pla yback in your netwo rk using special server soft ware running on a computer or oth er device. The NOX ON requ ires a UPnP - compatible server to provide it with files.

The r emote con trol. Here it is—your infrared calorie saver. Most of the controls will probably be familiar from other produc ts from the world of consumer electronic s. Buttons and their func tions. Here's where you turn the NOXON on and off.
The Home bu tton. This button tak es you back to th e home menu for your playback o ptions. Use this butto n to jump straight to the VTuner select ion list for Internet ra dio stations. This button opens t he configur ation menu. For more informa- tion, see page 30.
The configur ation menu The configurat ion menu lets yo u set up the NOXO N's adva nced settings. To open the menu, press the button on th e remote control. There you will find the following entries: Configuration menu (main menu) Status Here you can view current parameters such as t he device's current IP add ress.
Yo u r o w n m u s i c s e r v e r. As explained in the appendix, several NOXON-co mpatible alternative mus ic servers are avail- able, most of which are free of charge.

Firing up the UPnP server. To make your Musicmat ch datab ase visible t o the NOXON, open t he “Options” menu, then “Settin gs”. Click the “CD L ookup/Connectivit y” tab. In the “Services” section of this tab, click the “Enable Music Server” a nd “Universal P lug and Play” options .
UPnP media server alt ernatives. It's very possible that some people really do n't like Musicmatch Jukebo x and feel more at home with a different media application . That's why we would like t o introduce a number of alternatives that were available at the time of p rinting.
The application—the NO XON M anager . The NO XON Manager let s you convenient ly check the stat us of NO XON dev ices in your net- work, manage their profiles, and update the op erating system of the NO XON—from any PC in your networ k.
Adding or remo ving a device will not immediately affect t he overview—click “Discov er...” to refresh the list. Configurin g devices via the NOXON Manager. With you r NOXON in your n etwork and the NO XON Manager application inst alled, click the “Configure.
Updating the fi rmware. The operating system of the NO XON can also be modified via the NOXON Manager. For the latest firmware, please visit the Service area in t he NOXON section of t he TerraTec website. In the opening screen of the N OXON Manager, clic k the “F irmware.
Step 3. The existing OS will now be de- leted and rep laced with the ne w one. This process must not be interrupted under any circum- stances, as t his may result in such severe dama ge to the NOXON that y ou will ha ve to return it to us for repairs.

Where can I fi nd my WEP k ey? If you set the n etwork up, you will have speci f ied it yourself. Otherw ise, conta ct your net- work administrator. I can't receive radio stream s, or the update fails. · Your netwo rk may be using a proxy server th at you have not entered in the configura- tion of your NOX ON.
My compute r cannot be found when switc hing from ad hoc to network mode (or bac k). Restart the Musicmat ch music server and your NO XO N. Y ou r c omp ut er wi ll the n b e r ec og- nized again .
Is the data communication truly sec ure? Does the NOXON represent a se curity risk for my network? If your network is WEP -encry pted, data communicati on between it and the rou ter will be just as sec ure as with any other client. Th e N OXON therefore does not represent a pot en- tial point of attac k for hackers.
Technical glossary Access point (AP) — An access point is a network componen t that WLAN clients (terminal de- vices) connect t o in order t o exchange dat a with the Internet or other client s.
SSID (ESSID) — The Service Set Identifier (SSID) or network name is the identifier for IEEE 802.11-based wireless netwo rks. Every wireless LA N has a co nfigurable SSID or ESSID (Ex- tended Service Set IDentifier) as a unique networ k ID. In other words, it is the network's name.
