27 GB Getting Started 6: Preparing the receiver and the remote Connect the AC power cord (mains lead) to a wall outlet. Before using the receiver for the first time, initialize t he receiv er by performing the following procedure. Th is procedure can also be used to return sett ings you have made to their factory defaults.

41 GB Amplifier Operations Adjusting the level (LEVEL menu) You can use the LEVE L menu to adjust the balance and level of each speaker. The se settings are applied to all sound fields.

55 GB Enjoying Surround Sound Notes • The effects provided by the virtual speakers may cause increased noise in the playback signal. • When listening with sound fields that employ the virtual speakers, you will not be able to hear any sound coming directly fro m the surround speakers.
56 GB Listening to the sound without any adjustment (ANALOG DIRECT) You can switch the audio of the selected input to two channel analog input. This function enables you to enjoy high quality analog sources. When using this function, only the volume and front speaker balanc e can be adjusted.

Before operation, make sure you have connected the FM and AM antennas (aerials) to the receiv er (page 26). 68 GB Switching between digital and analog audio (INPUT MODE) When you connect components to both digital and analog audio input ja cks on the receiver, you can fix the audio input mode to either of them, or switch from one to the other, depending on the type of material you intend to watch.

74 GB Changing button assignments You can change the fa ctory settings of the input buttons to suit the components in your system. For example, if you connect a DVD recorder to the VIDEO 1 jacks on the receiver, you can set the VIDEO 1 button on this remote to control the DVD recorder.

80 GB HDMI The source sound in put to the HDMI jack on the receiver is not output from the receiver or the TV speaker. • Check the HDMI connection. • You cannot listen to the Super Audio CD by connecting HDMI. • Depending on the playback component, you may need to set up the component.
81 GB Additional Inf ormation Tuner The FM reception is poor. • Use a 75-ohm coaxial cable (not supplied) to connect the receiver to an outdoor FM antenna (aerial) as shown below. If you connect the receiver to an outdoor antenna (aerial), ground it ag ainst lightning .
