V AIO® Computer User Guid e 12 Using the K eyboar d Y our keyboard is very similar to that of a typew riter , but the keyboard has additional keys that perform sp ecific computer-related tasks. Functions of the ke yboar d keys Keyb oa rd Key Description Numeric keypad area Contains the keys found on a typical calculator .
Using the K eyboard 13 Function keys The 12 function keys along the top of the keyboard are u sed to perform designated tasks. For example, in many applicati ons, F1 is the Help key . The task associated with each function key may vary from one application to the next.

Using the K eyboard 15 Combinations and functions with the Windo ws ke y Num Lock The number keys in the numeric keypad are active. The character keys in the keypad area are active. Caps Lock Letters appear in uppercase as you type. The Shift key lowers the case of typed letters when Caps Lock is on.

Y ou can point to, select, drag, and scroll objects on the screen using the built-in touchp ad. When you select an item in the Jo g Dial window an d it is displayed between orange b ars, you can press the center Jog Dial control to view a su bmenu of that item.

Using a PC Card 25 Using a PC Car d Y our computer in cludes one PC Card slot. A PC Card enables you to connect portable external devices, such as another hard disk drive, to your computer . It also lets you connect to a network using a PC Network Interface Card (NIC).

Using Memor y Stick Media 29 T o insert a Memor y Stick media 1 Insert the Memory Stick media with the arrow facing up ward and toward th e Memory Stick media slot. 2 Carefully slide the Memory S tick media in to the slot until it clicks in place. The Memory Stick media indicator l ight on the rig ht of the computer briefly flashes.

Connecting to a Wireless LAN 39 Communi cation with an Access P oint (infrastructure) An infrastructure network is one that ex tends an existing wired local network to wireless devices by providing an access point. The access point bridges the wireless and wired LAN and acts as a cen tral controller for the Wireless LAN.
