23 Feature s of the MVS-8000 Multi Format Swit cher System Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Powerful f rame memory funct ions In an MVS-8000 system, an HDTV system can h old 58 still imag e frames (88 frames in 7 20P/59.94 for mat), and an SDTV system can store 222 fr ames in memory, while u p to eight frames can be recalled an d used simultaneous ly.

Carry out the type selection wit h the transition type selection buttons in the transition control block of each M/E or PGM/PST bank.

48 Keys Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Keys A key is an ef fect in which a part of the background image is replaced by an image or superimpos ed text. The s ignal determi ning how th e background i s cut out is termed “key s ource,” and the sign al that replaces the cut-out part is termed “key fill.
49 Keys Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Clea n m ode In a luminance key, linear key or color vector key , you can enable the clean mode. When the clean mode is on, the key source does not affect the key fill, which is added unchan ged to the background.
50 Keys Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Norm al m ix: The foregroun d is cut ou t with th e key signal , and then combined with the background, which has als o been cut out with the key signal. Additi ve mix: The backgr ound, whi ch has been cut out w ith the key signal, is combined with the unshaped foreground .
51 Keys Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Window adjustment Y balance In normal ch roma keyin g, the key si gnal is based on the chromin ance component only, and all elements of th e foregro und with the same h ue are replaced by the background.

53 Keys Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Border This appl ies a uniform width border to the ed ge of the key. You can adjust the border wi dth and densit y. You can also en able the separate ed ge function, and adjust the top, botto m, left, and r ight border wi dths separatel y.
54 Keys Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Outline This uses the outline of the original key as the key. You can adjust the width and density of the ou tline. You can also enable the separate edge fun ction, and adjust the top, bottom, left, and right outline width s separately.

Changing the background by means of a wipe is ref erred to as a “bac kground wip e,” an d in ser ti ng or de le tin g a key with a wipe is termed a “key wipe.
61 Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions P attern Mix You can create a n ew pattern by combin in g two selected patterns (main and “sub”). Not e It is not possible to apply a pattern mix to an indepen dent key transition. For deta ils , se e “ Patt ern Mix” (pa ge 44 1).
62 Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions • A value of 0 .00 corresponds to the beginn ing of the trans ition, and a value o f 100.00 to the end of the transition. • A negative Start value si gnifies that the main and s ub patterns are alr eady combined when the transition starts.
63 Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Main and sub modifi er link function When carrying ou t a pattern mi x, it is po ssible to link the modifier s ettings for the main p attern and sub pattern.
64 Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Direction You can specify the direction of the wipe: the regular direction is referred to as “normal,” and the other dir ection as “rev erse.” You can also select alternating directions each time the tran sition is completed (normal/reverse mode).
65 Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Edge You can apply a border to the pattern, so ften the edges , or soften the applied borde r. In an independent key transition, only the “Soft” sett ing is available. Border: You can adjus t the border width.
66 Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Angle This carries out a wipe with the pattern in a fixed angle. The parameter Angle determines the angle of pattern rotation. A value of –100.00 o f the parameter Angle correspo nds to one wh ole turn counter clockwise; a value o f +100.
67 Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions The parameter Ang le determines an angle of pattern inclination at the beginn ing of the transitio n. • A value o f –100.00 corresponds t o the angle rot ated one whole turn counterclockwis e. • A value o f +100.
68 Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions • The parameter H Multi determines th e number of pattern replications horizontally, and the parameter V Multi determines the number of pattern replications vertically. • The parameter Shif t determines the mann er of replication.
69 Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions the righ t, and the o dd-numbered pairs move t o the left. Th e value +100.00 represents the maximum movement. • The parameter V Offset determines th e spacing in the vertical direction.

72 DME Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions DME Wipes A DME wipe is a wipe transition that uses a DME effect to change from o ne video image to the next. There are two type s of DME wipe: those which can be selected f or a normal transition, and those which can be selected for an indep endent key transition.
73 DME Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Slide: The new video s lides in ov er the old v ideo. (Pattern nu mbers: 1001 to 1008 (one-channel mo de), 2601 t o 2608 ( two- channel mode)) Squeeze: The new video appears s queezed over the o ld video, and progressiv ely expands to cover it.
74 DME Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Picture-in-picture: The one-chan nel mode and two-chann el mode differ as follows. In one-channel mode, this completes in two transit ions. In the first transitio n, the old vi deo shrinks , and the new video appears behind it.
75 DME Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions In three-channel mo de, a brick appear s over the old video as the image is expanding and rotatin g, and switches to the new video . (Pattern nu mber: 3601 (th ree-channel m ode)) User programmable DME: Using a DME keyf rame effect created with a keyframe operation, this executes a DME wipe.
76 DME Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Transition mode “Compress” The change in the image when the transition mode is set to “Co mpress” is as follows, in comparison to th e case of “Picture-in -picture.
77 DME Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions At the first transition completion poin t, if you move the image with the positioner, the transitio n appears as in the fo llowing figure. Transition mode “frame in-out H” This mode is s pecified when creating a transition effect in the horizontal directi on.
78 DME Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Transition mode “frame in-out V” This mode is s pecified when creating a transition effect in the vertical directi on. In this mode, in the state at completion of the first transition, you can move the image with the p ositioner in both horizont al and vertical directions.

82 DME Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Relation to o r dinary wipes • DME wipes do not use the wipe generato r built into the switcher. Therefore, during the execution of a DME wipe, you can still use a pattern produced by the wipe gen erator as the source for a pattern key or mask.
83 DME Wipes Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions To save and recall thes e registers, use the Flexi Pad co ntrol block in each switcher ban k or the Menu control bl ock. (See “DME Wipe Snapshots” (page 482).) In the case of a simple transition system, there are eight DME wipe snap shot registers for each switcher bank.

87 Frame Memory Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions About extended c lips When two fram e memory boards ( MKS-8440A for the MVS-8 000A, MKS- 8442G for the MVS-8 000G) are installed, one is dedicated to clips. Such clips held in a frame memory boar d are called “ex tended clips.
88 Frame Memory Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions P air files a nd single files A file that can be recalled in pair mode is termed a “pair file.” A pair file can be created by setting pair mode and cap turing an imag e, or by us ing the coupling function (see page 94) to combine two single f iles.

90 Frame Memory Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Recalling a still im age (reca ll) You can r ecall an image file saved in mem ory, and allocate to any of th e FM1 to FM8 outputs .
91 Frame Memory Chapter 1 MVS-8000 F unctions Not e It is not possible to save an image moved with the reposition functio n directly to frame memory. Fixing the output image sele ction (lock function) For the output of each of FM1 to FM8, this fixes the im age at the current output.
