Press again to pause. • Stop butt on : pre ss to stop playi ng the au dio track or video file. • Forward button : press to skip forward to the next track or video file and start p laying.
17 Mouse The mouse has one ratchet wheel and two buttons: a left button and a right button. Q u ickly pre s sing and rel easing the buttons is called clicking. Sometimes, you will need to do a double-c lick (clicking the same button twice quickly) or a right-click (clicking the right button quickly ).
2 System tour 18 Disk drives Your computer comes with the fo llowing disk drives: Floppy driv e Your comput er ’ s 3.5-inch fl oppy drive can han dle 720-KB and 1.44- MB capacity diskettes. The floppy diskettes are compact, lightweight, a nd easy to carry around.
19 CD-ROM/DVD-ROM/ CD-RW drive Your compu ter may come with a CD-ROM, DVD-ROM or a CD-RW drive. Th is drive is located on the front pa nel of your computer.

25 Arranging a comfortable work ar ea Working safely begins with the arra ngement of y our work space and the proper use of equ i pment. For this reason, it is ve ry important to take time a nd think about how yo u are going to arrange your work area .

29 Connecting perip herals Setting up your c omputer is easy. For the mo s t part, you o nly have four things to c onnect: the USB mouse, the USB k e yboard, the monitor, and t he p ower cable. USB mouse Plug the US B mouse cable into an y of the USB ports located on the front or rear pane l of your computer.

31 Note: If you are using a PS/2 keyboard, plug the keyboard cable into the PS/2 keyboard port (purple port) located on the rear pane l of your comp uter . Monitor To connec t a monitor, simply plug the mon itor cable into the monito r port located on the rear panel of you r compute r.
3 Setting up your com puter 32 Power cable Cautio n! Before you proceed, check th e voltage range in yo ur area. Make su re that it matches your comp uter ’ s voltage setting (refer to page 12 for the location of the voltage selector switch on the rear panel o f your computer).
33 T ur ning on you r comput er After connecting t he ne cessary periph erals and plugging in the power cable, you are now ready to turn the compute r on and g et to work. To turn on your c omputer: 1. T u rn on a ll peripherals connected to your compu t er such as the monitor , printer , fax, speakers, etc.
3 Setting up your com puter 34 T ur ning off your computer To turn off you r computer, click o n the Start button, highl ight Shut Down , select Shut down ; then click on OK . You can then turn off al l peripherals c onnected to your computer. If you cannot s hut down y our computer normally, press the power button for at lea s t four seconds.
35 Connecting op tions Printer To connec t a printer, pl ug the printer cable into the parallel port (burgundy p ort) located on the rea r panel o f your c ompu t er. Note: The pr inter shown below is for your reference only . Actual device model may vary in different c ou ntries.

3 Setting up your com puter 38 Network You can connect your compute r to a Local Area Network (LAN) using a network c able. To do so, simply plug the network cable in to the network port (gray port) on the rear panel of yo ur computer. Note: Consult your operating system manual for information on how to configure your n etwork setup.
39 Modem (optional) Set up yo ur modem connectio n by plugging the telep hone line and handset into the handset/tele phone line port located on the rear panel of y our computer.
