5 MANUALS PROVIDED WITH THE MACHINE Printed manuals a nd manuals stored in PDF format on the machine's hard drive are provided with the machine. When using the mach ine, read the approp riate manual for the feature you are using .
6 PRINTER FUNCTION OF THE MACHINE The machine is equippe d standard with a full colour printi ng function. To enable printing from your computer, a p rinter driver must be installed from t he provided CD-ROM. See the table below to deter mine which printer driver to use in your environment.
7 BASIC PRINTING PROCEDURE The following example expla ins how to print a document fr om "WordPad", which is a stand ard accessory program in Windows. 1 PRINTING FROM WINDOWS 1 Select [Print] from the [File] menu of WordPad. The menu used to execute printing may vary dependi ng on the software application.
8 3 Select print settings. (1) Click the [Paper] tab. (2) Select the paper size. To select settings on other tabs, click the desired tab and then select the settings. (3) Click the [OK] button. 4 Click the [Print] button. Printing begins. In Windows 98/Me/NT 4.
9 SELECTING THE PAPER This section explains how to configur e the "Pape r Selection" se tting on the [ Paper] ta b of the printer driver properties wind ow. Before printin g, check the paper size s, paper types, an d paper remaining in the ma chine's trays.
10 PRINTING WHEN THE USER AUTHENTICATION FUNCTION IS ENABLED When the user au thentication func tion is enabled in t he machine's system settings (administrator), your user information (login name, passwo rd, etc.) must be entere d in the printer driver pr operties window before you can print.
11 2 Enter your login name and password. (1) Click the [Job Handling] ta b. (2) Enter your user information. • When authentication is by login name/password Select the [Login Name] and [Password] checkboxes so that checkmarks appear, and enter your login name and password.
12 VIEWING PRINTER DRIVER HELP When selecting settings in the print er driver, you can display Help to view explanation s of the settings. Pop-up help To view Help for a setting, click the button in the upper right -hand corner of the printer drive r properties window and then click the setting.
13 SAVING FREQUENTLY USED PRINT SETTINGS Settings configur ed on each of the tabs at the tim e of printing can be save d as user se ttings. Sa ving frequently used settings or co mplex colour settings under an assigned name makes it easy to select those settings the ne xt time you need to use the m.
14 3 Check and save the settings. (1) Check the displayed settings. (2) Enter a name for the settings (maximum of 20 characters). (3) Click the [OK] button. 4 Click the [OK] button. 5 Start printing. • Up to 30 sets of user settings can be saved. • The following items cannot be saved in user settin gs.
15 USING SAVED SETTINGS Deleting saved settings Select the us er settings t hat you wan t to delete in (1) of step 2 above, a nd click the [De lete] button . 1 Open the printer driver properties window from the print window of the software application.
16 CHANGING THE PRINTER DRIVER DEFAULT SETTINGS The default se ttings of the print er driver can be chang ed using the proced ure below. The settin gs selected using this procedure are saved an d become the default se ttings whe n printing f rom a softw are applicat ion.

19 Mac OS 9 1 Select [Page Setup] from the [File] menu of SimpleText. 2 Select paper settings. (1) Make sure that the corre ct printer is selected. (2) Select paper settings. The paper size, paper orient ation, and enlarge/redu ce can be selected. (3) Click the [OK] button.

24 PRINTING WHEN THE USER AUTHENTICATION FUNCTION IS ENABLED When the user authent ication function is enab led in the machine's system settings (adm inistrator), you must ent er your user information (l ogin name, password, etc.) in order to print.
25 Mac OS 9 3 Start printing. (1) Enter your user information. • When authentication is by login name/password Enter your login na me in "Login Name" an d your password in "Password" (1 to 32 characters). • When authentication is by user num ber Enter your user number (5 to 8 digits) in "User Number".
26 2 Display the job handling screen. (1) Make sure that the machin e's printer name is selected. (2) Select [User Authentication]. The machine name that appears in the "Printer" menu is normally [SCxxxxxx]. (" xxxxxx" is a sequence of cha racters that varies depending on the machine model.

28 BLACK AND WHITE PRINTING [Black and White] can be selected on the [Main] tab as well as on th e [Color] tab. Click the [Black and White Print] checkbox on the [Main] tab so that a checkmark appears. The [Black and White Print] checkbox on the [ Main] tab and t he "Color Mode" setting on the [Color] tab are linked.
29 TWO-SIDED PRINTING The machine can prin t on both sides of the paper. Th is function is useful for many pu rposes, and is particularly convenient when you want to cr eate a simple pamphlet . Two-sided printing also helps conserve paper. (1) Configure the settings on the [Main] tab.
30 Mac OS X (1) Select [Layout]. (2) Select [Long-edged binding] or [Short-edged binding]. Mac OS 9 (1) Select [Output/Document Style]. (2) Select [Flip on long edge] or [Flip on short edge]. Macintosh (1) (2) • In Mac OS X v10.1.5, select the settings in [Duplex].
31 FITTING THE PRINT IMAGE TO THE PAPER This function is used to automatically enlarge or r educe the printed image to match t he size of the paper load ed in the machine.
32 PRINTING MULTIPLE PAGES ON ONE PAGE This function can be used to reduce the print imag e and print multiple pages o n a single sheet of paper. This is convenie nt when you want to print m ultiple images such as ph otos on a single sheet of paper, a nd when you want to conserve paper.
33 Mac OS X (1) Select [Layout]. (2) Select the number of pages per sheet. (3) Select the order of the pages. (4) If you wish to print borderlines, sel ect the desired type of borderline. Mac OS 9 (1) Select [Layout]. (2) Select the number of pages per sheet.
34 STAPLING OUTPUT/PUNCHING HOLES IN OUTPUT Staple function The staple functi on can be used to stap le output. This function sa ves considerable time wh en preparing hand outs for a meeting or ot her stapled mater ials.
35 (1) Configure the settings on the [Main] tab. (2) Select the binding edge. (3) Select the staple functio n or the punch function. • For the staple fun ction, select the number of staples in the "Staple" menu. • For the punch function, click the [Punch] che ckbox so that a checkmark appears.

38 INCREASING THE MARG IN (Margin Shift) This function is used to shift the print image to inc rease the margin at the left, rig ht, or top of the pap er. This is convenient when you wish to staple or punch the output but the binding area overlap s the text.
39 Mac OS 9 (1) Select [Advanced]. (2) Select the binding edge and margin shift. CREATING A LARGE POSTER (Poster Printing) (This function is only ava ilable in Windows.) One page of print dat a can be enlarged and pr inted using multiple sheet s of paper (4 sheets (2 x 2), 9 sheets (3 x 3) or 16 sheets (4 x 4)).
40 FUNCTIONS TO ADJUST THE SIZE AND ORIENTATION OF THE IMAGE ROTATING THE PRINT IMAGE 180 DEGREES (Rotate 180 degrees) This feature rotat es the image 180 degree s so that it can be printed corre ctly on paper that can only be loaded in one orientatio n (such as envelopes o r paper wit h punch holes).
41 Mac OS 9 (1) Select [Page Setup] from the [File] menu and select [PostScript Options]. (2) Select the [Flip Horizontal] and [Flip Vertical] checkboxes .

43 REVERSING THE IMAGE (Mirror Image) The image can be reve rsed to create a mirror image. This function can be used to conveniently prin t a design for a woodblock print or other printing medium. (This function can be used when the PS printe r driver is used.
44 COLOUR MODE ADJUSTMENT FUNCTION ADJUSTING THE BRIGHTN ESS AND CONTRAST OF THE IMAGE (Colour Adjustment) The brightness and contr ast can be adjusted in the print set tings when printing a photo or ot her image. These sett ings can be used for simple correcti ons when you do not have image editing software installed on your computer.
45 PRINTING FAINT TEXT AND LINES IN BLACK (Text To Black/Vector To Black) (This function is only availa ble in Windows.) When printing a colour imag e in greyscale, colour text and lines that are faint can b e printed in black. (Raster data such as bitmap images can not be adjusted.
46 SELECTING COLOUR SETTINGS TO MATCH THE IMAGE TYPE (Advanced Colour) Preset colour sett ings are available in the machine's print er driver fo r various uses. These enable printing using the most suitable colour settings fo r the colour image type.
47 Mac OS X (1) Select [Color]. (2) Select colour print settings. • To use the Mac OS Colour Management function, select the [ColorSync] checkbox . When this is done, "Image Type" cannot be selected. • If you selected [4 Colors] from the "Neutral Gray" menu, select [Pure Black Print].
48 FUNCTIONS THAT COMBINE TEXT AND IMAGES ADDING A WATERMARK TO PRINTED PAGES (Watermark) Faint shadow-like text can be added to the background of the printed imag e as a watermark. The size, colour , density, and angle of th e watermark text can be adjusted.
49 Mac OS 9 (1) Select [Watermark]. (2) Configure watermark settings. Detailed wate rmark settings can be configured such a s selection of the text a nd editing of the colour. Select the text from the "Watermark" menu. Select the size and angle of the text and col our of the font from the corresponding menus.
50 CREATING OVERLAYS FOR PRINT DATA (Overlays) (This function is only availa ble in Windows.) The print data can be print ed in a previously creat ed overlay.
51 PRINT FUNCTIONS FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES PRINTING SPECIFIED PAG ES ON DIFFERENT PAPER (Different Paper) • Using this function in a Windows environ ment The front and ba ck cover and specified page s of a document can be printed on pape r that is different from the ot her pages.
52 Mac OS X (1) Select [Paper Feed]. (2) Select cover insertion setting s. Select the paper tray or paper type for the first page in "First page from", and the n select the pa per tray or paper type used for the remaining pages in "Remainin g from".
53 ADDING INSERTS WHEN PRINTING ON TRANSPARENCY FILM (T ransparency Inserts) When printing on tran sparency film, this fu nction helps prevent the sheets of transparency film from stic king together by inserting a shee t of paper between each sheet of film.
54 Mac OS 9 (1) Select [Transparency Inserts]. (2) Select the transparency inse rt settings. To print the same content on the insert as is printed on the sheet of transparency film , select [On (Printed)] from the "Transparency Inserts" menu.
55 PRINTING TEXT ON TABS OF TAB PAPER (Tab Printing) (This function is only ava ilable in Windows.) This function is used to print text on the tabs of tab paper.
56 Printing tab text created in a software application (1) Click the [Advanced] tab. (2) Click the [Tab Paper Settings] button. (3) Select the tab paper settings.
57 CONVENIENT PRINTER FUNCTIONS USING TWO MACHINES TO PRINT A LARGE PRINT JOB (Tandem Print) Two machin es are req uired to use t his function. Tandem Print allows you to divide a large print job between two machines co nnected to your net work.
58 SAVING AND USING PRINT FILES (Retention/Document Filing) This function is used to stor e a print job as a file on the machine's hard drive, allo wing the job to be printed f rom the operation pan el when needed. The location for storing a file can be selecte d to prevent the file from being mixed tog ether with files of other us ers.
59 Mac OS X (This function cannot be used in Mac OS X v10.1.5.) (1) Select [Job Handling]. (2) Select the retention setting. Click the [Retention] checkb ox .
60 When you do not have the printer driver inst alled on your compu ter, or when the soft ware application used to ope n a file that you wish to print is not available, you can print directly to the machine wit hout using the printer driver . The file types (and correspo nding extensions) that can be printed directly are shown below.
61 DIRECTLY PRINTING A FILE ON AN FTP SERVER When an FTP server is con figured in the ma chine's Web page s, you can specify and print a file on the FTP server fr om the operation pan el of the machine. This save s you the trouble of down loading the file and printing it from a computer.
62 DIRECTLY PRINTING A FILE IN USB MEMORY A file in a USB memory device connected to the mach ine can be printed from the oper ation panel of the machine with out using the printer dr iver.
63 3 Touch the key of the fi le that you wish to print. • The icon appears to the left of keys of files th at can be printed. • The icon is displayed to the left of keys of folders in the USB memory. To display the files and folders in a fo lder, touch the key of the folder.
64 DIRECTLY PRINTING FROM A COMPUTER Settings can be configur ed in the Web pages of the machin e to enable direct printing f rom a computer without using the printer driver. SUBMIT PRINT JOB You can specify a file to be p rinted dire ctly without using the printer driver.
65 E-MAIL PRINT An e-mail account can be conf igured in the machine to have t he machine periodically check your mail server and automatically print received e-mail attachment s without using the printer dr iver. • Configuring settin gs To use E-mail Print, you must first configure an e-mail account in the ma chine.
66 PRINTING AN ENCRYPTED PDF FILE Encrypted PDF is used to pr otect a PDF file by requiring t he en try of a password to p rint or edit the f ile. To directly print an encrypted PDF file on an FTP server or in a USB memory device conne cted to the machine, follow the steps below to enter the passw ord and begi n printing.
67 GIVING A PRINT JOB PRIORITY/CANCELLING A PRINT JOB GIVING A PRINT JOB PRIORITY When the machine is busy copying or print ing a received fax or ot her job, you can give priority to a print job that is waiting to be printed and print it ahead of th e other jobs.
68 CANCELLING A PRINT JOB A job being printed, a job waiting to be printed, or a spoole d job can be cancelled. 1 Press the [JOB STATUS] key. 2 Cancel the job. (1) Touch the [Print Job] tab. (2) Change the print job status mode to [Spool] or [Job Queue].
69 CHANGING TO ANOTHER PAPER SIZE AND PRINTING WHEN PAPER RUNS OUT If printing st ops because the machine r an out of pape r, or if the size of paper specified in the printer d river is not loaded in the machine, a message will appear in the touch panel.
