3 1 Getting star ted GETTING ST AR TED This chapter provides basic inf or mation f or using the copier . INTR ODUCTION This copier has been designed to provide intuitiv e operating ease while requiring a minimum amount of space. T o get full use of all copier f eatures, be sure to f amiliarize yourself with this manual and the copier .
4 1 Getting star ted CA UTIONS F ollow the cautions belo w when using this copier . ● The fusing area is hot. Ex ercise care in this area when removing misf ed paper . ● Do not look directly at the light source. Doing so may damage y our eyes . ● Do not s witch the copier rapidly on and off .
5 1 Getting star ted MAIN FEA TURES High-speed laser copying ● Since warm-up time is zero , cop ying can be star ted immediately after the power s witch is tur ned on. ● First-copy time is only 9.6 seconds (normal mode). ● Cop ying speed is 15 copies/min.
7 1 Getting star ted OPERA TION P ANEL Original to copy key and indicator s : T wo-sided copies from one- sided originals. T urn on Long Edge or T urn on Shor t Edge can be selected. : T wo-sided copies from two- sided originals. (Can be selected only when the RSPF is used.
10 1 Getting star ted LO ADING COPY P APER Raise the handle of the paper tra y and pull the paper tra y out until it stops. Adjust the paper guides on the paper tra y to the copy paper width and length. Squeeze the le ver of paper guide and slide the guide to match with the width of the paper .
11 1 Getting star ted Gently push the paper tra y back into the copier . After loading cop y paper , to cancel the blinking “ P ” without restar ting copying, press the clear ( ) k ey . The “ P ” in the display will go out and the ready ( ) indicator will light up .
12 2 Making copies MAKING COPIES This chapter describes basic copying functions and some other cop ying functions using the b ypass tra y . NORMAL COPYING This copier has two document input stations -re v ersing single pass feeder (RSPF) f or automatic document f eeding and an original table f or manual handling of documents.
13 2 Making copies NORMAL COPYING T ur n the po wer s witch on. The ready ( ) indicator will light up . ● The copier will enter a pow er sav e mode once the set time has elapsed without any copier oper ation after the last cop y of a r un is made or po wer is turned on.
14 2 Making copies NORMAL COPYING Original face up B. When using the original table: (1) Open the original cov er . (2) Place an original face do wn on the or iginal tab le. Align it with the original scale and the centering ( ) mark. Close the or iginal co ver .
15 2 Making copies NORMAL COPYING D . When cop ying in the two-sided to one-sided mode: Use the original to copy k ey to select the two-sided to one-sided cop ying mode. The originals must hav e been set in the RSPF in step 3. Ensure that the desired paper tra y is selected.
16 2 Making copies When making two-sided copies from the original table , place the second original on the original table and press the print ( ) ke y .
17 2 Making copies Set the number of copies using the cop y quantity ( , ) ke ys and press the print ( ) k ey . REDUCTION/ENLARGEMENT/ZOOM Three preset reduction ratios and two enlargement ratios can be selected. The zoom function enables cop y ratio selection from 50% to 200% in 1% increments.
18 2 Making copies BYP ASS FEED (including special paper) The bypass tra y can automatically f eed up to 50 sheets of standard cop y paper and can also f eed special papers such as transparency film and labels one sheet at a time. Copy paper measuring from 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" to 8-1/2" x 14" and in the weight range of 14 to 34.
19 2 Making copies Print face Press the tra y select ( ) ke y to select the bypass tr a y . Set the number of copies if using standard cop y paper . Press the pr int ( ) k e y .
27 5 Copier trouble? COPIER TR OUBLE? This chapter describes misfeed removal and troubleshooting. MISFEED REMO V AL When the misfeed ( ) indicator b links or blinks in the displa y , the copier will stop because of a misfeed. If a misf eed occurs when using the RSPF , a number ma y appear in the displa y after a minus sign.
28 5 Copier trouble? MISFEED REMO V AL A Misfeed in the paper feed area Gently remov e the misf ed paper from the paper f eed area as shown in the illustration. When blinks in the display and the misfed paper is not seen from the paper feed area, pull out the paper tra y and remov e the misfed paper .
29 5 Copier trouble? MISFEED REMO V AL ● Do not touch the photoconductiv e drum (green por tion) when removing the misf ed paper . Doing so may damage the drum and cause smudges on copies. ● Do not remov e the misf ed paper from abov e the fusing unit.
30 5 Copier trouble? Rotate the f eeding roller in the direction of the arrow and gently remov e the misfe d paper from the e xit area. F eeding roller Raise the fusing unit release lev er , close the front cover and then close the side co ver b y pressing the round projections near the side cov er open button.
31 5 Copier trouble? MISFEED REMO V AL Roller rotating knob With the RSPF , pull out the re versing tra y to remov e the misfed original. With the RSPF , after removing the misf ed or iginal from the e xit area, be sure to inser t the re v ersing tra y into the e xit area until it locks in place .
32 5 Copier trouble? DEVELOPER REQUIRED When the indicator lights up , the de veloper should be replaced.DEVELOPER REPLA CEMENT SHOULD ONL Y BE DONE BY AN A UTHORIZED SHARP SER VICE TECHNICIAN. Contact University Copy Service at Ext. 3012 as soon as possib le.
35 5 Copier trouble? A UT OMA TIC EXPOSURE ADJUSTMENT The automatic exposure le vel can be adjusted to suit y our copying needs . This lev el is set f or cop ying from the or iginal tab le and copying from the RSPF respectiv ely .
