13 1 PREPARING THE MACHINE FOR INSTALLATION 1 Be sure to hold the handles on both sides of the machine to unpack the machine and carry it to the ins tallation location. 2 Remove all pieces of tape shown in the i llustration bel ow and then op en th e RS PF and remo ve t he pro tec tive mat eria ls.
14 INSTALLING THE TD CARTRIDGE 1 Open the bypass tray, and then ope n the side cover. 2 Remove the CAUTION tape from the front cover and remove the two protective pins from the fus ing machine by pulling the strings upward one at a time. 3 Press g ently on both sid es of th e fron t co ve r to open t he cover.
PREPARATIONS 15 1 5 While pu shing th e lock re lease button, gently insert the TD cartridge until it locks into place. 6 Close the fro nt cover a nd then the side cover by pressing the round projections near the side cover open button. 7 Ensure t hat the p ower sw itch of the machine is in the OFF position.
16 POWER ON AND OFF The power s witch i s located o n the left s ide of the machin e. Power on Turn the power switch to the "ON" position. The ready ind icator will light up and other indicators which show th e initial settin gs of t he display will al so lig ht up t o indicat e the re ady condition .
PREPARATIONS 17 1 About the scan head The scan head lamp rem ains on c onsta ntly when t he mac hine is in the ready conditio n (when the ready ind icator is illum inated ). The mach ine adj usts t he scan he ad lam p period ically t o main tain co pying quality.

LOADING PAPER 19 2 Special pape rs Follow these guidelin es when using specia l pape rs. ● Use SHARP reco mmende d transpa rency fil m and label sh eets.
LOADING PAPER 20 4 Fan the p aper and in sert it into th e tray. Ma ke sure that the edges go under the corn er hooks. 5 Gently push the paper tray back into the machine. • D o not lo ad pape r above th e maximum height line ( ). Exceedi ng the line will cause a paper mi sfeed.
21 3 BYPASS FEED (including speci al paper) The bypa ss tra y can be used t o feed sta ndard p aper, tra nsparenc y film, l abels , envelop es, an d other special purpos e paper. Important points when inserting paper in the bypass tray Up to 50 s heets of st andard c opy paper c an be in serted in th e bypa ss tray.
LOADING PAPER 22 Loading paper in the bypass tray 1 Open the bypass t ray and extend the tray. 2 Set the byp ass tray paper gu ides t o the pap er wid th. Inser t the paper (print face down) all the way into the bypas s tray. 3 Press the [TRA Y SELE CT] key ( ) to selec t the byp ass tray .

MAKING COPIES 25 3 Using the RSPF 1 Make sure that an original has not been left on the document glass. 2 Adjust the original guides to the s ize of the originals. 3 Set the ori ginal(s) face up i n the document feeder tray. The RSPF in dicat or on the op eration panel will light up.

28 REDUCTION/ENLARGEMENT/ZOOM Copies c an be reduc ed do wn to 25 % or enlarg ed up t o 400%. (Wh en the RSPF is being us ed, the zoom co py rati o range is 50% to 200%.) The [COPY RA TIO] key c an be pressed to quic kly selec t a ratio from among eight preset ratios.

30 4 Chapter 4 AUTOMATIC TWO-SIDED COPYING Two origin als can be automa tical ly copied onto both sides of a sing le sheet of paper. When the R SPF is used , two-side d copies of two-sid ed origi nals can easily be made.

42 INSTALLING THE SOF TWARE Using the machine with a USB connection 1 The USB cable must not be connected to the machine. Ma ke sure that the cable is not connected before proceedi ng. If the c able i s connected , a Plug and Play window will appe ar.
SET UP TH E SOFTWAR E 43 5 7 To install all of the software, click the "Standard" bu tton. To install particular packages, click the "Custom" bu tton. If you selec ted "Cus tom", go to step 9 . 8 Read the mes sage in the "Wel c ome" window and then click the "Next" button.
SET UP THE SOFTWARE 44 11 The files required for installation of the MFP driver are copied (if "MFP Driver" w as sel ected). Follow the on-s creen i nstructio ns. When "T he ins tallat ion of the SHARP so ftware is comple te" appea rs, cli ck the "O K" button.

SET UP THE SOFTWARE 46 17 Begin installation of the printer driver. "SHARP AL-XXXXCS" wil l appear in t he "Found New Hardware Wizard" dialog box. Se lect "Ins tall t he soft ware auto matical ly (Rec ommende d)" and click th e "Next" button.

80 MISF EE D RE MO VAL When a misfe ed occu rs, the error indic ator blinks , "CLEAR PAPER JAM" appe ars in the disp lay, a nd the machine stops operating . If a m isfeed oc curs when us ing the RSPF, "RETURN X ORIGINAL(S) START T O RESUME" will ap pear in the display.
TROUBLESHOOTING AND MAINTENANCE 81 8 A: Misf eed in the pa per feed a rea 1 Gently remove th e misfed paper f rom the paper f eed area as shown in the illustration. If the error indicator blinks a nd the misfed paper is not visible in the pape r feed area, pull out the paper tray a nd remove the misfed pape r.

86 DRUM CARTRIDGE REPLACEMENT The usefu l life of the drum cartridge is appro ximat ely 18,00 0 cop ies. When the internal counte r reaches appro ximatel y 17,0 00 co pies, the error i ndicator will l ight u p and "A DRUM CARTRIDGE W ILL BE NEEDED SOON" will appear i n the display.
