High -level formatti ng High- level format ting verifies the inform ation written by the low- level for mat and build s the file alloc ation table (FAT) used by DOS to ac cess files on the dr ive. If yo u pu t mor e t han one pa rtit ion on the driv e, you mu st high -level form at each part ition.
NonDO S operat ing systems If you are installin g the drive in a syst em that is using an oper atin g syste m othe r than DOS, you ma y need a device driver or instal - lat ion sof tware . The de vice driver is pr ovided by yo ur SCSI ada pter manuf actur er and is op eratin g-system sp ecific.
Basic troub leshooting Warn ing. Always turn off the system before changing jump ers or unp lugging cables and c ards. If your drive does no t respon d or f un ction prop erly when you tur n the powe r on following t he hard ware i nst alla tion , perfor m these bas ic check s: • Chec k all cards.
Make sure th at th e dr ive i s ru nni ng. List en ca refully for th e drive mot or spin ning. Also , the drive- activity LED flashes when the power is turned on. If t he LED stays on aft er p ower -on, make sure the inter face cable is proper ly con nected and that no ot her de vice on the bu s is u sing the same SCSI ID.
Advanced troub lesho oting If you ha ve perfor med the prece ding ba sic checks but the pr ob- lem has not been solve d, follow the se guidelines for analyz ing spe cific ca ses: The system do es no t reco gnize the pre senc e of the dri ve or sys tem erro r messa ge, “No Drive s Foun d,” appe ars.
• If the drive is at least the third d rive i n your system, you may ne ed to conf igure the BI OS f or thr ee or more dr ives or insta l l a device dr iver . Re fer to your host adapt er’s user guide for as sistance . Contac t t he host adapt er manu fact urer for the de vice driver if one is requ i red .
