Hold the camera high to get a great view of a parade, or swivel the monitor around to snap a photo of yourself. If you s wivel the monitor unit to its farthest position, the image on the monitor will be inv erted.

21 English CHARGING THE B A TTER Y P A CK Please charge the supplied bat tery pack befor e using it. 1 Insert the battery pack in the battery charger. h Inser t it in the direction indicated b y the [ o ] mar k on the battery pack. 2 Connect the supplied power cord to the socket on the battery pack charger.

English 26 Install the card The card can be used aft er it has been f ormatted with the ca mera (page 144). 1 Ope n the battery/card compartment cover. 2 I nsert the card. h Firmly inser t the card until it clicks into place. 3 Cl ose the battery/car d compartment cover.

English 28 TURNING THE CAMERA ON AND OFF T urning on the camera 1 Open the monitor unit, and press the ON/OFF button for at least 1 second. h If you p ress the REC/PLA Y button f or at least 1 second, the ca mera turns on in the pla ybac k mode. h If you pre ss the ON/OFF butt on once, the camera will s witch to the power sav e mode.
29 English TURNING THE CAMERA ON AN D OFF T urning off the camera 1 Press the ON/OFF button for at least 1 second. h The camera turns off . h T o turn off the camera while it is in the shooting mode or po wer sav e mode, press the ON/OFF b utton f or at least 1 second.
English 30 OPERA TION BUTT ONS The procedures to change the camer a settings , choose images, etc., ar e perf ormed by using the arrow b uttons to control the monit or displa y . This operation is used v ery frequently , so it is best to become f amiliar with it right away .
31 English OPERA TION BUTT ONS <Select the icon to the left or right> T o select the icon to the right, press the [ H ] button. T o select the icon to t he left, press the [ G ] butt on. <Actuate the selected icon> Press the SET b utton. The selected icon mov es to the left end of the lineup .
English 32 D A TE AND TIME SETTING The camera will record the date and time an image or audio recording is taken so that y ou can disp la y them during pla yback. Theref ore, bef ore capturing images, mak e sure the correct date and time are set. Example: T o set the clock to 7:30 p .
33 English D A TE AN D TIME SETTING 4 Set the date. 1 Select “D A TE”. 2 Press the SET b utton. h The Set Date Screen appears . 3 Set the date to “2007/ 12/24”. h The date is set in the f ollowing order: Set the year → Set the month → Set the day .

English 36 BASIC OPERA TION BEFORE T AKING PICTURES For best results Hold the camera secur ely , keeping your elbo ws cl ose to your body and making sure the camera is stable. Make sure tha t the lens and flash are not b lock ed by your finge rs or the handstrap .
37 English BEFORE T AKING PICTURES Using the autof ocus The autofocus will w ork in almost all situat ions; however , there are certain conditions that may cause the autof ocus function to not work properl y . If the autofocus function is not working properly , set the focus range to capture images (page 78).
English 38 The fo llowing e xamples are some of the situations where the aut ofocus function ma y work, b ut not as desired. i When both near and far objects are present Use the focus-loc k function to lock the focus on an object at the same distance as the desired subjec t, th en reposition the camera to compose the pict ure.

English 46 HINT What is the camera fo cusing on? i If the focus r ange (page 78) is set to a setting other than man ual - , a target mark & on the monit or shows the area the camer a is focusing on. i The camera automatically determines the correct f ocus by measuring from 9 diff erent f ocus points within the shooting area.

Why does recor ding stop? i When you capture a stil l image during video clip recording, recording briefly stops while the image is bei ng sav ed.
English 54 A UDIO RECORDING AND PLA YB A CK Y our camera can make audio recordings and pla y them back. A udio recor ding 1 Turn on the camera (page 28). 2 Pres s the MENU button. h The menu displa y appears. 3 From the video clip mode menu, select the audio memo icon < , and press the SET button.

57 English USING THE ZOOM Y our camera has two z oom functions: opt ical zoom and digital z oom. Y ou can specify whether or not the digital zoom is enab led (page 133). 1 Point the came ra lens at the subject. 2 Press the [T] or [W] button to compose the desired image.
English 58 EXPOSURE CORRECTION By assigning the e xposure correction oper ation shortcut to the arrow butt ons (page 134), you can mak e the image lighter or darker when capturing images . 1 Assign the operation shortcut to an arrow button (page 134).
59 English EXPOSURE CORRECTION HINT The exposure correction setti ng is canceled in the foll owing cases: i When the pointer is set to the center position. i When the camera is set to the pla yback mode. i When the standb y mode or sleep mode is activa ted.
English 60 AFTER USING THE CAMERA IN W A TER After using the camer a in water , wash it with fresh wat er and dry it completely . 1 Turn off the camera, and close the battery/card compartment cover securely. 2 Was h the camera with fresh water. h Fill a shallow basin with fresh wa ter , and immerse the closed camera fo r about 5 minutes .
61 English SHOO TING P AGE 1 (BASIC SETTINGS) DISPLA YING THE RECORDING MENU The RECORDING MENU is used to adjust your camer a’ s shooting settings. The RECORDING MENU is organized into two displays: PA G E 1 and PA G E 2 . Y ou can also access the RECORDING MENU from the camera settings screen (OPTION MENU [ page 120]).

67 English IMA GE QU ALITY Video clip image quality setting When it comes to video clips, a lar ger number of pixels and a higher frame rate means bett er image quality a nd smoother pla yback. On the other hand, the file size becomes lar ge and uses more memory .
English 68 Still image resolution setting By setting the still image resoluti on (pixels) to a higher setting, image detail is enhanced for a smoother , finer picture. However , the file size also becomes large and uses more me mory . Select the resolution setting that suits your purpose.
69 English SCENE SELECT Y ou can select from various preset settings (aperture, shutter speed, etc.) for specific shooting co nditions. 1 Display PAG E 1 of the RECORDING MENU (page 62). 2 Select the scene select menu. 3 Select the desired icon from t he scene select m enu, and press the SET button.

English 72 SETTING THE FLASH MODE The flash is used n ot only f or taking pi ctures where there is insuff icient light, but also when the subject is in shade or in backlight conditions. Y our camera’ s flash has three modes o f operation ( aut omatic flash mode , f orced flash mode and flash off mode).
73 English SETTING THE FLASH MODE CA UTION Do not touch the flash unit when shooting i The flash unit becomes very hot and ma y cause a burn. A v oid touching the flash unit when shooting.

79 English FOCUS RANGE How to use the manual f ocus 1 Select the manual focus i con - from the focus menu (page 78), and press the SET button 2 times. h The focus dista nce adjustment bar appears . 2 Press the [ G ] or [ H ] button to select the desired focus distance, and press the SET button.
English 80 FOCUS AREA SETTING Y ou can choose from the following 2 type s of autofocus (stil l image shooting only): 9-point range find er focus: The distance to the subject is detected b y sampling from m ultiple areas of the entire shoot ing screen.
81 English LIGHT -MEASURING MODE SETTING Y ou can select from 3 types of light-measuring modes. Multi-section light- measuring: The exp osure is adjusted after sampling from mult iple areas of the entire shooting screen.
English 82 ISO SENSITIVITY With the initial se ttings, the ISO sensit ivity is automatically set according to the brightness of the subject. Howe ver , the ISO sensi tivity can be set to a fixed setting. 1 Displa y PAGE 2 of the RECORDING MENU (page 62).
83 English ISO SENSITIVITY HINT i By setting a hi gher ISO sensitivity , you can set higher shutter speeds and capture images in darker locations , b ut noise in the captured images ma y increase. i By assigning an oper ation shortcut to an arro w button (p age 134), you can change the ISO setting fr om the Shooting Screen.
