Chapter 5: V-Switch Cluster Configuration 5-1 5 V -S witch Cluster Conf iguration IN THIS CHAPTER You can configure a V-Switch cluster using two V-Switches of the same type. A cluster is a group of storage units and switches that function as one unit for vi rtualization and provide high availability in the event of V-Switch failover.
5-2 SANRAD V-Switch CLI User Manual Introduction to V-Switch Clusters Two V-Switches can be concurrently conne cted to the same storage devices to balance volume exposure thus cre ating a V- Switch cluster. In a cluster, each V- Switch interacts in an active-active, pee r-to-peer fashion with the other V- Switch, or neighbor , in the cluster.
Chapter 5: V-Switch Cluster Configuration 5-3 . When creating a cluster, it is recommended that the same port on each V-Switch is used to connect to the same storage device. This increases the chance of the storage device receiving the same default storage number on both V- Switches during their auto-discovery cycles.
5-4 SANRAD V-Switch CLI User Manual RAID controller are sim ultaneously exposed through all ports con nected to both V-Swit ches for the V-Swit ches to provide high av ailability during a V-Switch failover. In Figure 5-2, V- Switch 1 has gone off-line.
Chapter 5: V-Switch Cluster Configuration 5-5 Configuring a V-Switch Cluster Setting the V-Switch ID When you configure a cluster, you must give each V-Switch a diffe rent device ID for proper cluster functioning. Use t he CLI command device set to configure the V-Switch ID for each V-Switch.

5-8 SANRAD V-Switch CLI User Manual Working with SCSI Storage Devices The V-Switch default SCSI bus ID is 7. If your storage cluster inc ludes SCSI storage de vices, one of the V-S witch’s defau lt SCSI bus ID may ne ed to be changed, depending on the number of internal bus drives in the attached SCSI storage system.
Chapter 5: V-Switch Cluster Configuration 5-9 Use the CLI command cluster show to view the keep alive parameters of a cluster. cluster show Last Keep Alive KeepAlive Int(s) Susp Int(s) Dead Int(s) 1 2 6 10 Example: Every 2 seconds V-Switch 1 sends out a k eep alive signal.
