Section 1: Getting Star ted This section helps you to quickly start using your device. Understanding T his User Manual The sections of this manual generally follo w the features of your device.
T ext Conv entions This manual provides condensed information about how to use your device. T o make this possible, the follow ing text conventions are used to re present often-used steps: Arrows ar e used to represen t the sequence of selecting successive options in longer , or re petitive, procedures.
1. Insert the USB cable into the Charging Head (1). Warning! While the device is charging, if the touch screen does not function due to an unst able power supply , unplug the USB power ada pter from the power outlet or unplug the USB c able from the device.
Installing the SIM Car d When you subscribe to a cellula r network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded w ith your subscription details, such as your PIN, available optio nal services, and man y others features.
T ur ning Y our Device On and Off T ur ning Y our Device On Press and hold the Power/Lock Key . For more information, ref er to “Unlocking the Device” on page 14. Note : Y our device’ s internal antenna is located alon g the top back of the device.

T ask Manager Y our device can run applicatio ns simultaneously and some applications r un in the background. Use T ask Manager to see which applications are running on your devic e and to end run ning applications to extend battery life. Y ou can also uninstall applic ations from your device and see how much memor y is used by applications.
Memor y Car d Y our device supports removable microSD o r microSDHC memory card s with m aximum c apacities of 32 GB (depending on the memory card manufacturer and ty pe).
3. Open the Mem ory Card Slot cover and turn to expose the slot. 4. Gently press do wn on the memor y card (1), so that it pops out from the slot, and c arefully pull the card out (2 ). 5. Replace the Memo ry Card Slot cover . For mor e information, refer t o “Memory Card” on page 92.
Locking the De vice Manually Press the Power/Lock Key . Unlocking the De vice 1. Press the Pow er/Lock K ey . The Lock screen displays. 2. Swipe across the screen as shown. The last screen you accessed displays. Tip : T ouch one of the app shortcut icons and then s wipe to launch that appl ication.
Section 2: Understanding Y our Device This section outlines key features of your device and describes the screen and the icons that appear when the device is in use. Side Views The following items can be found on the sides of your device as illustra ted. 1. Microphone : Used for video chat. 2. Power/Lock Key : Press and hold to turn the device on or off. Press to lock the device or to wake the screen for unlocking.
Back View and Bottom The following items can be found on the back of your device as illustrated. 1. 3.5mm Hea dset Jack : Used for headphones. 2. Camera Lens : Used when taking photos or recording vi deos. 3. Charger/Accessory Port : Plug in a USB cable for charging or to sync music and files.
Home Screen The Home screen is the starting point for using your device. Note: Unless stated otherwise, instructions in this user manual start with the device unlocked, at the Home screen.
Extended Home Screen The Home screen consists of the main H ome screen page, indicated by , plus addition al pages that extend beyond the display width to provide a dditional space fo r adding app shortc uts and widgets. F or more information, refer to “Adding and Removing Home Screen P ages” on page 21.
Adding and R emo ving Home Screen Pages Y our device comes with seven Home screen pages. Y ou can customize the Home screen by removing or adding pages.
Navig ating Y our Device Use command buttons and the t ouch screen to navigate. Command K eys Back • To u c h Back to return to the previous screen, opti on, or step. Home • To u c h Home to display the main Home scre en page. • T ouch and h old Home : – A list of recently used apps i s displayed.
Notificati ons When you receive a Notification, a noti fication icon displays on the left side of the Status Bar . Notifications indicate the arrival of Gmail, Email, alarms, and more . Notification Pa nel The Notification Panel displa ys ongoing connections an d events, as well as summaries of all current Notifications.
Quick Settings Quick Settings allows you en able/disable common fea tures such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GP S, Screen rotation, and more. 1. T ouch the top of the screen and swipe downward. The Notification P anel screen displays. T ouch a Quick Setting button to enable (green) or disable (grey) a setting or feature.

Notificati ons display in the Status Ba r and, in some cases, under the Notifications heading on the No tifications Panel to alert you to activity on the tablet such as new mes sages, application downloads, sof tware updates, and more.

Airplane Mode : Indicates that the Airp lane Mode is active, which allows you to use many of your device’ s featur es, but it cannot access online information o r applications. Bluetooth Active : Bluetooth is turned on. For more informa tion, refer to “Bluetooth” on page 87.
W idgets When you first turn o n your tablet, there are various widgets on the center Home screen. Th ey can al so appear on the Home screens to the left an d right of the center Hom e screen. Widgets are self-contained app lica tions that you can place on the Home scree ns to access your fa vorite fea tures.
Managing Folders T o rename a fo lder: T ouch the folder , touch the current name, and use the keyboard to enter a new name for the folder . T o add an App Shortcut to a folder: 1. Add the App Shortcut to th e Home screen that the folder is on. 2.
Apps Scr een The Apps screen displays all applications inst alled on your wireless device. Applica tions that you do wnload and install from Google Play or from the web are also added to a Home screen. The Apps icons are a rranged in a customizable grid.
Using the Multi W indow This feature allows you to run multiple applications on the current screen at the s ame time. Note: Only applications found within the Multi win dow panel can be active atop another current a pplication on the screen.

T o increase the size of a desired applica tion window: 1. With the tw o applications shown in a split screen, locate the Border Bar indicating the edge of the app window. 2. In a single motion, touch and hold the Border Bar , then drag it to resize the desired window .
Entering T e xt Y our device uses a virtual QWER TY keyboard for text entry called the Samsung keyboard . Use the keyboard to enter letters, punctuation, numbers, and other c haracters into text entry fields or a pplicati ons. Access the keyboard by touching any text entr y field.
K eyboard Types In addition to the default QW ERTY keyboard, there is al so a Floating keyboard. T o change the keyboard type: 1. Access the QWERTY keyboard. 2. T ouch and hold on the keyboard, select from the pop-up men u , and then touch Floating . 3.
Using Pre dictive T ext By using Predictive text, you ca n have next-letter prediction and regional err or correction, which compensates for pressing the wrong keys on the QWERTY keyboard. Note: Enable Predictive text in Samsung keyboard settings. For mo re information, ref er to “Configuring the Samsung Keyboard” on page 134.
Copying, Deletin g, or Replacing T ext T o select and copy , delete, or replace text: 1. T ouch and hold the text or word you want to select. The selected text is highlighted be tween . 2. T ouch and drag either tab to select mor e or less text. Tip : T ouch Select all in the pop-up to sele ct all text in th e field.
Closing the Keyboard T o close the keyboard: To u c h Back to close the keyboard. Using the Handwriti ng F eature Y ou can enter text simply by u sing your finger t o handwrite letters on your screen. 1. From a screen where yo u can enter text, activate the keyboard by touching a text input field on the screen.

Section 3: Contacts an d Accounts This section explains how to manage contacts and accounts. Accounts Y our device can synchronize with a variety of ac counts. With synchronization, infor mation on your device is updated with any informa tion that changes in your accounts.

Email . R ef reshing Y our Gmail Account Refresh your ac count to upda te your device from the Gmail servers. 1. T ouch Gmail . Refresh . 2. Using the Image View er After taking a photo or recording a video, use the I mage Viewer to view or play , share, or delete your photos and videos . 1. T ouch Image Viewer to view photos and videos. 2. T ouch the screen to sho w or hide Image Viewe r options .

Playing Videos 1. T ouch Gallery . 2. T ouc h a category and then a group to view it, and then touch a video thumbnail to play the video. Note: Videos are marked with a Play button. 3. T o pause t he video, touch Pau s e . 4. T o r esume playing the video, touch Resume .
Search and use the keyboard to enter a Video Player Y our device’ s 10.1-inch 1280x800 WXGA TFT (PLS) LCD screen provides playback of videos. Use Video Player to vie w and manage videos stored on your tablet. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps Vid e o P l a y er .

Section 6: Connection s This section describes the vari ous connections your device can make including accessing the Internet with your Browser , Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Connecting to your PC. Browser Y our devic e is equipped with a full HTML Browser tha t allows you to access the Internet.
Selecting Items On a Page While browsing, use gestures and menus to navigate: • T ouch an item to select it. • T ouch a hyperlink to follow the l ink. • T ouch and hold on a hyperli nk for options. Using Browser Windows Y ou can have multiple windows o pen at one time and easily switch between windows.
Creating Bookmarks While browsing, bookmar k a site to quickly access it later . 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps Browser . 2. Bro wse to a website , touch Add bookmark next to the website’ s address a t the top, then enter the required information and touch OK .
Wi - Fi Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technolog y that pr ovides access to local area networks. Use your device’ s Wi-Fi feature t o: • Access the Internet for bro wsing or to send and receive email. • Access your corporate networ k. • Use hotspots provided by hotels or airports whi le traveling.
Connections Scanning and Connecting to a Wi-Fi Network When you turn on Wi-Fi, your device searches for available Wi-Fi connections, then d isplays them on screen. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps Settings. 2. Under Wireless and networks , touch to turn Wi-F i ON .
– Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep : Specify when to disconnect from Wi-Fi. Option are: Always , Only when plugged in , or Never . – Auto netw ork switch : Automatically s witch between W i-Fi networks and mobile netw orks. – MAC address : View your device’ s MAC address, required when connecting to some secured networks (not configurable).
Sharing Infor mation with Connect ed Device T o share videos, photos, or other informa tion with the connected device, follow these steps: 1. View the information that you want to share. F or example, if you want to shar e a photo, find the photo in your camera viewer or My File s folder , then touch the Share, Share via, or Send via option.
Pairing w ith a Bluetooth Device Search for a Bluetooth device an d pair with it to exchange information between your device and the target device. Tip : After pairing, yo ur device and t he target device re cognize each other and exchange info rma tion without h aving t o enter a passcode or PIN.
R eceiving Data from a Bluetooth De vice T o receive data from a Bluetooth device: 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps Settings. 2. Under Wireless and networks , touch to turn Bluetooth ON . Note: T o select the length of time t hat your device will be visible, select Menu Vis i b le t i m eo u t .
connected to a Wi-Fi network. At that time, the dow nload resumes automa tically . The Downloads app can al so be used to view and manage these queued files. Downloaded files are stored in the Do wnload director y in your tablet’ s internal stor age.
Note: Y ou cannot uninstall the a pps that are inc luded w ith Android. Y ou ca n only uninstall t he apps you have downloaded. Synchronizing with Windows Media Play er Ensure that Windows Media Player is installed on your PC. 1. Attach your device to the computer with the USB cable.
Kies Via W i-Fi Samsung Kies is a software that enables you to update your device firmware, synchronize files, and transfer da ta to and from your de vice directly by co nnecting to th e PC. T o learn more about Samsung Kies and dow nload the Kies software (for both PC and Macintosh), visit: samsung.
Unmounting an SD Card 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps Settings Storage . 2. T ouch Unmount SD card . 3. At the prompt, select OK to safely unmount t he memory card. 4. Remove the SD card from the slot. For more in formation, refer t o “Removing a Memory Card” on page 12.
