Getting Started 7 Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y o u must f ully charge the battery before usin g your device for the first time. After th e first charge, you can use the d evice while charging. 1. Plug the flat end of the USB 3.0 cable into the USB P ort.

Understanding Y our Device 13 Home Screen The Home screen is the starting point for using your device. I t consists of: • Status bar : The Status Bar displays notifications on the left side and status indicators on the right side. Note : The Statu s Bar is normally hidden.
14 Additional Home Screens The Home screen consists of the a main Home screen and up to 6 additional screens. • Main Home Screen : One Home screen is designated as the main Home screen , and will display whenever you press the Home key . • Slide your finger horizontally acr oss the screen to scroll through the Home s creens.
Understanding Y our Device 15 T o resize a window: 1. T ouch and hold a Home Screen App until it “releases” from the page. A gold box appears ar ound the window. 2. Drag a side of the window to resize it. The other Home Screen Apps will autom atically adjust to accommodate the resized window .

18 Finger Gestures T ouching T o open an appl ication, to select a menu item, to press an onscreen button, or to enter a character using the onscreen keyboard, touch it with a finger . T ouching and Holdi ng T ouch and hold an item for more than 2 seconds to access available options.

Tilt T ouch and hold two points on the screen, and then tilt the device back and forth to zoom in or out. Note: T o move an icon to a new loca tion, touch and hold it and drag it to the target position.
20 Mute/Pause Cover the screen with a palm to pause media playback. Multi W indo w Multi task by using up to four applications at the same time. Note: Only applications displayed on the Mult i window panel can be used with the Multi window f eature. Activ ate Multi Windo w 1.

22 Panel Configuration Y ou can rearrange the apps on the Multi window panel, add new apps or remove apps. On the Multi Window panel: 1. T ouch to access the panel controls. 2. T ouch Edit . 3. Configure apps: • T o remove an app from the panel, d rag it off of the panel and place it in the storage area.
Understanding Y our Device 23 Accessing Additional P anel Functions In addition to n otifications, the Not ification Panel also provides quick and ready access to se parate device functions. These can be quickly activated or deactivated by toggling them on or off.

26 Adding a Shor tcut or W idget Y ou can customize the Home s creen by adding shortcuts and widgets. 1. From a Home screen, touch and hold on an empty area of the screen until th e Home screen pop-u p appears . – or – T ouch Apps to display the Apps screen.

32 Handwriting T ouch and hold ➔ , and then write a word with a finger or stylus (not included ). Suggested words appear as characters are entered. Select a suggested word. Use handwriting gestures to perf orm actions, such as editing or deleting characters and inserting spaces.
Accounts and Contac ts 33 Section 3: Accounts and Contacts This section explains how to ma nage accounts and contacts. Accounts Y our device can synchronize with a variety of accounts. With synchronization, in formation on your device is updated with any informa tion that changes in your accounts.
34 Y our Google Account In order to utilize your device to the fulles t extent, you will need to create a Google Account when you first use your device. With a Google Account, Google a pplications will always be in sync between your tablet and computer .

36 Contacts Display Options There are various ways to display your contacts. 1. T ouch Contacts . 2. T ouch the Groups tab, Favorites tab, or Contacts tab to view contacts in various ways: • Groups : Display contacts sorted into groups — such as Not assigned, Co-workers, Family , Friends, etc.

38 Impor ting and Exporting Contacts T o back up and restore your contacts, you can export your contacts list to a stora ge device (such as a PC), or import your contacts list from a storage device. 1. Use the USB cable to connect your de vice to the storage device.
Accounts and Contac ts 39 Adding Group Members T o add a contact t o a group, just edit a contact ’ s Group field. For mor e information, refer to “Updating Contacts ” on page 35. 1. T ouch Contacts ➔ Groups tab. 2. T ouch the group to which you want t o add members.

Messaging 41 Section 4: Messaging This section describes ho w to send and receive messages and other features as sociated with messaging. Types of Messages Y our device supports these types of messages: • Email • Gmail • Hangouts • Google+ • Tw i t t e r Note: Y our Wi-Fi-only device does NOT support voice calling and messaging ser vices.

Enter an account name and your name, if required. 6. T ouch Done . The device co mmunicates with the appropriat e server to set up your account and synchronize your email.
Messaging 43 Email Settings Use email settings to configure your email pr eferences. Note: Available settings depend on the email provider . 1. T ouch Email . 2. T ouch Menu ➔ Settings , then touch General set tings . The following options display: •D i s p l a y : Set how email is shown in the email list and when you op en them.
44 Gmail Send and receive email with Gmail, Google’s web-based email service. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Google folder ➔ Gmail . Setting Up Y our Gmail Account If you did not set up a Google Account during t he initial configuration, the first time yo u launch Gmail, your device prompts you to set up your Google Account.
Messaging 45 Hangouts Previously know n as Google T a lk, Hangouts is an online place to meet friends and family , share photos, and host video calls. Conversation logs are auto matically saved to a Chats area in your Gmail account. Fro m a Home screen , touch Apps ➔ Google folder ➔ Hangouts .
46 Section 5: Connections Y our device includes features to connect to the internet and to other dev ices by using Wi-F i, Bluetooth, or a USB cable. Wi - Fi Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technolog y that provides access to local area networks.
Connections 47 Scan and Connect to a Wi-Fi Netw or k When you turn on Wi-F i, yo ur device searches for and displays available W i-F i connecti ons. 1. From any screen, touch th e top of the screen and swipe downward. The Notification Panel displays. 2.
48 Wi-Fi Status Indicators The following icons sho w yo ur cur rent Wi-Fi connection status at a glan ce: Wi-Fi Settings The Wi-Fi settings menu allows you to set up many of your device’ s advanced Wi-Fi services. 1. From a Home screen, touch ➔ Settings ➔ Connections tab ➔ Wi-Fi .
Connections 49 – Wi-Fi timer : Specify the Startin g time and the Ending time for Wi-Fi to be automatically connected. T ouch the OFF/ON button to turn Wi-Fi timer ON . T ouch Wi-Fi Timer for options . – Install certificates : Install authentication certificates.
50 6. On the target device, touch Accept (you have 30 seconds to touch Accept ). Once connected, the target device w ill show as Connected in your list of Wi-Fi Direct devices and the icon will display on the St atus Bar .
Connections 51 From Settings 1. From a Home screen, touch ➔ Settings ➔ Connections tab ➔ Bluetooth . 2. T ouch the OFF/ON button to turn Bluetooth ON or OFF .
52 Bluetooth Status Indicators The following icons show your Bluetooth c onnection status at a glance: R econnect to a Bluetooth De vice When you have paired your tabl et with another device, you should be able to reconnect it au toma tically by t urning on Bluetooth on your tablet.
Connections 53 Disconnect or Unpair from a Bluetooth De vice Follow these instructions to disconnect or unpair your tablet from a Bluetooth device. Disconnect from a Bluetooth Device 1. From a Home screen, touch ➔ Settings ➔ Connections tab ➔ Bluetooth .

56 Managing Downloads Files, apps, and other it ems you download in Internet, Gmail, Email, or in other ways, are stor ed on your tabl et’ s internal storage.
Connections 57 Connecting as a Mass Stora ge De vice Y ou can connect your device to a PC as a removable disk and access the file directory. If you insert a memory card in the device, you can also access the file s directory from the memory card by using the device as a memor y card reader .

64 T aking Photos 1. T ouch the ima ge on the preview screen where the camera should focus. When the subject is in fo cus, the focus frame turns green. 2. T ouch to take the photo. 1. Change camera settings. 2. Switch between the front and rear camera.
Applications 65 – T ouch to take multiple photos . T o get the best shot, hold the camera steady and remain still whi le taking photos. When Gallery opens, touch the yellow frame on each face, and choose the best individual pose for the subject.
66 • Rich tone (H DR) : T ake photos witho ut losing details in bright and dark areas. •E r a s e r : Erase the movements of moving subjects in the background. – T ouch to take a series of photos. The device erases traces of movement from a moving subject.

68 Dual Camera Mode When you take a landscape photo with the rear ca mera, the photo or video captured by th e front camer a appears in an inset window, or vice versa. Use this feature to take a beautiful landscape photo and a self-portrait simultaneously .
Applications 69 Controlling the C amera R emotely Set a device as a viewfinder to control the camera remotely. 1. T ouch Options ➔ ➔ Remote viewfinder , and then connect the device and the camera us ing Wi-F i Direct. 2. T ouch to take a photo remotel y using the device as a viewfind er .
70 Settings : •L o c a t i o n t a g : Attach a GPS location ta g to the photo. Note: T o improve GPS signals, avoid shooting in locations where the signal may be ob structed, such as between buildings or in low- lying areas, or in poor weather conditions.

76 Modifying Images While v iewing an image, touch Men u ➔ Edit and use the following functions: •R o t a t e : Rotate the ima ge. •C r o p : Crop the image. • Color : Adjust the saturation or b rightness of the image. •E f f e c t : Apply effects to the ima ge.

T ouch the face, touch Add name , and then select or add a contact. 3. When the face tag appear s on an ima ge, touch the face tag and use ava ilable options, such as sending messages.
