Getting star ted 10 U sing the SIM or USIM card and ba tter y Installing the SIM or USIM card Inser t the SIM or USIM card provided b y the mobile telephone ser vice provider . • Only microSIM car ds work with the device . • Some L TE services may not be available depending on the service provider .
Getting star ted 11 Removing the SIM or USIM car d 1 Open the cov er of the SIM card slot. 2 Push the SIM or USIM car d until it disengages from the device , and then pull it out. 3 Close the cov er of the SIM card slot. Char ging the ba tter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time.
Getting star ted 12 Connect the USB cable to the USB pow er adaptor and then plug the end of the USB cable into the multipurpose jack . Connecting the charger improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused by misuse is not co ver ed by the warranty .
Getting star ted 13 Reducing the battery consumption Y our device pr ovides options that help y ou sav e the batter y pow er . By customising these options and deactivating featur es in the background, y ou can use the device longer between charges: • When you ar e not using the device, switch to sleep mode b y pressing the P ower butt on.
Getting star ted 14 3 Push the memory card into the slot until it locks in plac e. 4 Close the cov er of the memor y card slot. Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home scr een, tap → Settings → General → Stor age → Unmount SD card .
Getting star ted 15 F ormatting the memor y card A memor y card f or matted on a c omputer may not be c ompatible with the device . F ormat the memor y card on the device . On the Home screen, tap → Settings → General → Stor age → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card → Erase ev er ything .
Getting star ted 16 L ock ing and unlock ing the screen Pr essing the Po wer button turns off the scr een and locks it. Also , the screen turns off and automatically locks if the device is not used f or a specified period.
17 Basics U sing the touch scr een • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touch scr een, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.
Basics 18 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item or the screen f or more than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o move an it em, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position.
Basics 19 Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in. Double-tap again to return. F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pps screen to see another panel . Flick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list of items , such as contacts.

Basics 21 Home screen la y out Home screen The Home screen is the starting point for acc essing all of the device’ s featur es. The Home screen has two diff erent k inds of panels. The Classic Home screen panel display s widgets, shor tcuts to apps , and more, and the Con tent Home scr een panel displays C ontent widgets.
Basics 22 Apps scr een The Apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including newly installed apps. On the Home screen, tap to open the Apps scr een. T o view other panels, scr oll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bottom of the scr een.
Basics 23 Indicator ic ons Indicator icons appear on the status bar at the t op of the screen. T he icons listed in the table below are most c ommon. The status bar ma y not appear at the top of the scr een in some apps. T o display the status bar , drag down from the top of the scr een.

Basics 26 Using the quick setting panel Y ou can ac tivate or deactivate some f eatures on the notifications panel. T o ac tivate or deactivate more f eatures, open the quick setting panel . T o open the quick setting panel, drag the sta tus bar down wards with two fingers .

Basics 28 Opening apps On the Home screen or the Apps scr een, selec t an app icon to open it. T o open the recen tly-used apps, tap and select an app icon to open. Closing an app T ap → T ask manager , and then tap End next to an app to close it. T o close all running apps, tap End all .
Basics 29 Pla y Stor e Use this app to pur chase and download apps. T ap Play St ore on the Apps screen. Installing apps Brow se apps by categor y or tap t o search f or a key word . Selec t an app to view inf or mation about it. T o download free apps , tap INST ALL .
Basics 30 Enabling apps On the Apps screen, tap → Show disabled apps , select apps, and then tap Done . Alternativ ely , on the Apps screen, tap Settings → Applications → Application manager , scroll to DISABLED , select an app, and then tap Enable .

Basics 38 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → General → P ower saving , and tap the Ultra pow er saving mode switch to activate it. A lternatively , open the quick setting panel and tap U. pow er saving to activate it. Send a message. Brow se the Internet.
Basics 39 V iewing help inf ormation T o view help information t o learn how to use the device and apps , open the Apps screen, tap Help . T o view help information f or an app while you are using the app , tap → Help . Some apps may not include help information.
40 Net w ork c onnec tivit y Mobile data Connect the device to a mobile network to use the Internet or shar e media files with other devices. Ref er to Data usage for additional options . On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Connections → Data usage , and then tick Mobile data .
Network connectivit y 41 Adding Wi - Fi networks If the desired network does not appear in the Wi-F i networks list, tap Add W i-F i net work at the bottom of the list. Ent er the network name in Network SSID , select the securit y type and enter the passw ord if it is not an open network, and then tap Connect .
Network connectivit y 42 Download boost er Use this f eature t o download large files fast er via Wi-F i and mobile networks simultaneously . A stronger Wi-F i signal will provide a faster do wnload speed. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Connections → Download booster , and then tap the Download booster switch to activate it.
Network connectivit y 43 Using the mobile hotspot Use your devic e as a mobile hotspot to share your device ’ s mobile data connec tion with other devices. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Connections → T ethering and Mobile hotspot → Mobile hotspot .
Network connectivit y 44 Using Bluet ooth tethering Share the device ’ s mobile data connec tion with other devices via Bluet ooth. Ensure that the computer that y ou connec t to supports the Bluetooth featur e. 1 P air your device with the other device via Bluetooth.
Network connectivit y 45 3 Enter the w eb address or a keyword , and then tap Go . T o search the web by v oice , tap . Open the homepage. Close the tab . Move to the previously-visit ed page. Book mark the current webpage . Open a new tab . Read an ar ticle in reading mode .

Motions & usability features 49 Smar t pause Playback pauses aut omatically when you look a way fr om the screen. It resumes when you look at the screen again. T ap Mute/P ause → Smar t pause . P alm swipe to capture On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Motions , and then tap the P alm swipe to capture switch to activate it.
Motions & usability features 50 Multi window About Multi windo w Use this f eature t o run two apps on the screen at the same time . Y ou can use this featur e to view emails or use the Internet while you play a video simultaneously .
Motions & usability features 51 3 T ap and hold an app icon to launch from the Multi windo w tray , and then drag it t o the screen. Release the app icon when the screen turns blue . 4 T ap and hold another app icon on the Multi window tray , and then drag it to a new location.

P ersonalising 61 Crea ting folders 1 On the Apps screen, tap → Crea te folder . Alternativ ely , tap → Edit , tap and hold an app , and then drag it to Crea te folder that appears at the top of the scr een. 2 Enter a f older name. 3 T ap , select the apps to mov e to the folder , and then tap Done .
P ersonalising 62 Setting wallpaper and ringtones Setting wallpaper Set an image or photo stored in the devic e as wallpaper for the Classic Home screen or the locked screen. 1 On the Classic Home screen, tap and hold an empty area, and then tap W allpapers .
P ersonalising 63 Changing the scr een lock method Y ou can change the way that you lock the scr een to prevent others fr om accessing your personal information. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Lock scr een → Screen lock , and then select a screen lock method .
P ersonalising 64 P assword A passwor d consists of characters and numbers. En ter at least f our characters including numbers and symbols, and then ent er the passwor d again to verify it.
P ersonalising 65 Registering fingerprints 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → F inger S canner → F ingerprint manager . 2 If you are r egistering more fingerprints , a finger print rec ognition pop-up window appears. Scan a reg istered fingerprint on the devic e and tap .
P ersonalising 66 Managing reg ister ed fingerprints Y ou can delete or rename your r egistered fingerprints. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → F inger S canner → F ingerprint manager . Then, scan a reg istered fingerprint or tap Alternativ e password , enter the curren t alternative passwor d, and then tap Done .
P ersonalising 67 P rivate mode About priva te mode Use this mode to pr event others from using or acc essing specific conten t, such as images and documents, st ored on the device . Y ou can save conten t to a specific location and deactivate private mode to hide it ems securely .
P ersonalising 68 V iewing hidden cont ent Y ou can only view hidden items when private mode is activated. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Priv ate mode , and then tap the Private mode switch to activate it. A lternatively , open the quick setting panel and tap Private mode to activate it.
P ersonalising 69 Adding r estric ted profiles 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Users . 2 T ap → Restric ted pr ofile . 3 Set an unlock code, and then select the apps and conten t that restricted users are allowed t o access. Swit ching users T ap at the top of the locked scr een.
P ersonalising 70 Managing users When using the owner ac count, y ou can delete accoun ts or change the account settings . On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Users and select an account under USERS & PROFILES . Then, select or deselect apps and content to allow or r estric t the account’ s access to them.
P ersonalising 71 Using Smart Switch with comput ers Use this f eature t o impor t a backup of your data (from selected manufacturer ’ s mobile devices) from a c omputer to your device . Y ou can download the app from ww w .samsung.c om/smar tswitch .
72 Phone T ap Phone on the Apps screen. Enter a phone number and tap to make a voic e call, or tap to make a video call . Y ou can also make calls to phone numbers listed in Groups , F av ourites , and Con tacts . Acc ess additional options. Add the number to the contacts list.
Phone 73 Mak ing calls from c ontac t groups or c ontac ts list T ap Groups or Con tacts , and then drag a contact or a phone number to the right to make a call. Mak ing calls from the fa vourites list Y ou can easily call contacts that you communicate with fr equently by adding them to the fav ourite contacts list.
Phone 74 Number prediction T ap Phone . When entering numbers on the keypad , automatic pr edictions appear . Selec t one of these to make a call. Speed dial numbers T ap Phone .
Phone 75 Mak ing an interna tional call T ap Phone . T ap and hold 0 until the + sig n appears. Enter the country code, ar ea code, and phone number , and then tap . T o block outgoing international calls , tap → Call settings → Call settings → More settings → Call barring .
Phone 76 Missed calls If a call is missed, appears on the status bar . Open the notifications panel to view the list of missed calls. Alt ernatively , on the Apps scr een, tap Phone → Phone to view missed calls.
Phone 77 Sharing con tent in dr ag and drop mode Y ou can share text or images with the other par ty dur ing a call by dragg ing an item and dropping it in the call scr een. T ap on the call screen. T ap and hold the text or image you want to share and dr ag it to the call screen.
Phone 78 During a video call The f ollowing actions are available: • : Adjust the v olume • Mute : T urn off the microphone so tha t the other par ty cannot hear you. • End call : End the current call . • → Keypad : Open the keypad.

89 C amera Basic shooting T aking photos or rec ording videos 1 T ap Camer a on the Apps screen. 2 T ap the image on the preview screen wher e the camera should focus. When the subject is in focus, the f ocus frame turns green. 3 T ap t o take a photo or tap to record a video .
Camera 90 • The camera aut omatically shuts off when unused. • Make sure that the lens is clean. Other wise, the device may not w ork properly in some modes that requir e high resolutions. • The fron t camera lens is suitable f or tak ing wide -angle photos.
Camera 91 Remote viewfinder Use your devic e as a viewfinder for another device. Y ou can control the other devic e remotely to take photos or videos fr om a distance. Y our device displays the same image tha t is display ed on the connected device. 1 T ap Camer a on the Apps screen.

Camera 94 P anorama Use this mode to take a phot o composed of many phot os strung together . The devic e identifies the photo with in Galler y . On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → MODE → P anorama . T o get the best shot, follo w these tips: • Move the camera slo wly in one direc tion.
Camera 95 Dual Camer a When you take a landscape phot o with the rear camera, the phot o or video captured by the front camer a appears in an inset window , or vice v ersa. Use this f eature t o take a beautiful landscape photo and a self-por trait simultaneously .
Camera 96 Camer a settings On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → . Not all of the following options ar e available in both still camera and video camera modes . The av ailable options var y depending on the mode used. • Picture size : Selec t a resolution.
