Assembling 11 T o install the SIM or USIM card and battery , If the device is on, press and hold the P ower/L ock key and 1 select Po wer off → OK t o turn it off . Remove the back co ver . 2 Be careful not to damage y our finger nails when you remov e the back cover .

Assembling 13 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time, you must char ge the battery . Y ou can charge the device with a tr avel adapt er or by connecting the device to a PC with a PC data cable . Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers and cables .
Assembling 14 Connecting the trav el adapter improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused b y misuse is not cov ered by the warranty . Plug the large end of the tra vel adapter into a pow er 2 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charg ing, but it ma y ● take longer to fully charge the batt er y .
Assembling 15 Plug the other end of the PC data cable into a USB port on 2 a PC. Depending on the type of PC data cable you are using , it may take some time bef ore charg ing begins. When the battery is fully charged (the battery icon is no 3 longer moving), unplug the PC data cable fr om the device and then from the PC.
Assembling 16 Remove the back co ver and batter y . 1 Inser t a memor y card with the gold-coloured contacts 2 facing down. Push the memory card in the memor y card slot until it 3 locks in place. Replace the battery and back cover . 4 Remov e the memor y car d › Before r emoving a memor y card, first unmount it f or safe remov al.
Assembling 17 F ormat the memor y card › F ormatting your memor y card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with y our device. F ormat the memory card only on the device. In Idle mode, select Applications → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card → OK → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card → Erase ev er ything .
Getting star ted 18 Getting star ted T urn your devic e on and off T o turn on your device , Pr ess and hold the Pow er/Lock key . 1 If you turn on your device f or the first time, follow the on- 2 screen instructions to set up your device . Getting star ted 23 Use the t ouch screen Y our device ’ s touch screen lets you easily select items or per form functions. Learn basic actions to use the touch screen. T o avoid scra tching the touch screen, do not use ● sharp tools. Do not allow the touch screen t o come into contact ● with other electrical devices.
Getting star ted 24 Y our device turns off the touch screen when y ou do ● not use the device for a specified period . T o turn on the screen, pr ess the P ower/Lock key or the Home key . Y ou can also adjust the backlight time. In Idle mode, ● open the application list and select Settings → Display → Screen timeout .
Getting star ted 25 › Add it ems to the idle screen Y ou can customise the idle screen b y adding shor tcuts to applications or items in applications , widgets, or folders. T o add items to the idle scr een, Pr ess [ 1 ] → A dd or tap and hold the empt y area on the idle screen.
Getting star ted 26 Use the shortcuts panel › In Idle mode or while using an application, tap the indicator icons area and dr ag your finger down t o open the shor tcuts panel. Y ou can ac tivate or deactivate wireless c onnec tion featur es and access a list of notifications, such as messages , calls, ev ents or proc essing status.
Getting star ted 27 Ac cess applications T o access your devic e’ s applications, In Idle mode, select 1 Applications t o access the application list. Scroll left or right to another application screen. 2 Y ou can also select a dot at the bottom of the screen to move t o the corresponding main menu screen directly .
Getting star ted 28 Organise applications › Y ou can reorganise the applica tions in the application list by changing their order or g rouping them into categories to suit your pr efer ences and needs. In the application list, press [ 1 ] → Edit → OK .
Getting star ted 29 Ac cess rec ent applications › Pr ess and hold the Home key to open the list of 1 applications you ha ve accessed recen tly . Select an application to access. 2 Use the task manager › Y our device is a multitasking device. It can run more than one application at the same time .
Getting star ted 30 T urn on or off the touch tone › In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Sound → A udible selec tion . Adjust the v olume of the ringtones › Pr ess the V olume key up or down to adjust the ringtone volume .
Getting star ted 31 Selec t a wallpaper for the idle scr een › In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → W allpaper → an option. Select an image. 2 Select 3 S ave or S et w allpap er . Samsung is not responsible f or any use of default images or wallpapers pro vided on your device .
Getting star ted 32 Set an unlock pattern In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L o cation and security → Set up screen lock → Pa ttern . See the on-screen instructions and example patterns and 2 select N ex t . Draw a patt er n by dragg ing your finger to c onnec t at least 3 4 dots.
Getting star ted 33 Lock y our SIM or USIM card › Y ou can lock your device b y ac tivating the PIN supplied with your SIM or USIM car d. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L o cation and security → Set up SIM card lock → Lock SIM card .
Getting star ted 34 Enter y our email address and passw ord f or your Samsung 3 account and select Sign in . T o create a Samsung acc ount, selec t Sign up . Select 4 Alert message recipients . Enter the passw ord f or your Samsung account again and 5 select OK .
Getting star ted 35 Enter t ext using the Samsung keypad › Select 1 → P or trait k eypad types and selec t a text input method. Y ou can select one of key input methods (QWERT Y or traditional keypad) or handwriting input methods. Enter text by selecting alphanumeric keys or writing on 2 the screen.
Getting star ted 36 Number F unction 7 Inser t a space; Inser t a full stop (double -tap); Change the input language (tap and hold, and then scroll left or right).

Getting star ted 39 Download applica tions from Andr oid Market Based on the Android platf orm, your device ’ s func tionality can be extended by installing additional applications. Android Market pro vides you an easy and quick wa y to shop for games and mobile applications .
Getting star ted 40 Download files fr om the web F iles you download from the w eb can include viruses that will damage your devic e. T o lessen your risk , only download files from sour ces you trust. Some media files include Digital Rights Management to prot ec t copyrights.
Getting star ted 41 Set up a ser ver acc ount › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → A ccounts and sync . Select 2 Add ac count → an account type.
Communication 42 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable dur ing a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. Make and answ er a call › Y ou can use the buttons or the touch scr een when you make, accept, end or r ejec t calls.
Communication 43 Answ er a c all 1 When a call comes in, drag right. When the device is ringing , press the V olume key to mute the ringtone . T o end the call, select 2 End call . Reject a c all When a call comes in, drag left. T o send a message when you reject incoming calls , select Reject c all with message .

Communication 46 Use additional f eatures › Y ou can use various other call-relat ed featur es, such as auto rejection, F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode, or call diverting or barring. Set auto rejection Use auto r ejec tion to reject calls from certain numbers automatically .
Communication 47 Enter the PIN2 supplied with y our SIM or USIM card and 2 select OK . Select 3 FDN list and add contacts to be used in FDN mode. Set call for war ding Call diverting is a network feature t o send incoming calls to another number that you specify .
Communication 48 Set call waiting Call waiting is a network f eature t o aler t you of an incoming call while you ar e on a previous call . This f eature is a vailable only for v oice calls. In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Call → Additional settings → Call waiting .
Communication 49 Send a text message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Messaging . Select 2 . Add r ecipients of your message. 3 Enter phone numbers manually , separating them with a ● semicolon or a comma. Select phone numbers from the lists by selecting ● .
Communication 50 Select 5 T ap to enter message and enter y our message text. T o inser t emoticons, pr ess [ ] → Insert smiley . Select 6 and add an item. Y ou can select a file from the file list or create a new phot o, video , or sound. Select 7 Send to send the message.
Communication 51 Google Mail Y ou can retrieve new email messages fr om Google M ail ™ to your Inbo x. When you acc ess this application, the I nbox screen appears . The total number of unr ead messages displays in the title bar and unr ead messages display in bold.

Y ou can take photos at r esolutions up to 2560 x 1920 pix els (5 megapixels) and videos at r esolutions up to 1280 x 720 pixels . The camera automa tically tur ns off when you do not ● use it for a specified period.

Enter a letter or a w ord of the data to search f or . 2 T o search for da ta by voice, select and say a keyword into y our device ’ s microphone.

Connectivity 98 C onnec tivit y Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology capable of ex changing information over a distance of about 10 m without requiring a ph ysical connection. Y ou do not need to line up the devices to beam inf ormation with Bluetooth.
