Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by f irst configurin g your hardwar e, activating your ser vice, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use, it is necessar y to install both the batter y and SIM into their corresponding internal compartments.
6 Installing the SIM Card A Subscriber Identity Module (S IM Card) is a “smartcard” tha t houses personal information, such as your mobile phone number , calling plan, account in formation, and content, such as contacts, text messa ges, and call histor y .
Getting Started 7 Installing the Batter y 1. Insert the battery i nto the opening on the back of the phone, making sure the three metal connecto rs align (1). 2. Gently press down to secur e the batter y (2). 3. Replace the battery cover (the back of the phone) by aligning the bottom of the batter y cover with the phone as shown.
8 5. Press down firmly along the edges of the cover to ensure that the cover is flu sh with the phone. Y ou should hear a light click as the cover locks in place. Note: Make sure the batter y is properly installed before switching on the phone. Charging a Batter y Y our phone i s powered by a rech argeable Li-ion batter y .
Getting Started 9 Using the Wall/USB Char ger 1. Connect the USB cable to the power ada pter . 2. Plug the p ower adapter int o a standard electrical outlet. 3. Connect the small end of the USB cable in to the phone’ s Micro USB Charging Port. Note: When you connect the charger , your phone powers on automatically .
10 Low Ba tter y Indicator When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, the “Batter y critically low ” warning appears and the device sounds a warning tone at regular intervals.

20 1. Vol u m e k ey s : Adjusts the ringer volume while i n standby mode or adjusts the voice volume dur ing a call. When receiving an incomi ng call, briefly press down either volume key ( ) to mute the ring tone. Also used to adju st the volume while playing music or videos.

If the recorded sample can be found in t he Windows Phone Store, the artist and song appears i n a pop-up window with a direct link to the Windows Phone Store, which lets you purchase and download the song.

Entering T ext 31 Section 3: Entering T ext This section describes ho w to select the desi red text input method when entering char acters into your phone. This section also describes t he predictive text entr y system that reduces the amount of k ey strokes associa ted with entering text.

Entering T ext 33 Using the QWERTY K eyboard Y our phone offers the convenie nce of an on-screen QWERTY keyboard. Using the QWER TY keyboard to type letters, numbers, punctuation, and other special c haracters into text entry fie lds or other applica tions should be simple and fast.
34 Changing the T ext Input Mode There are three main keyboard layout keys tha t change the on-screen keys within the QWERTY keyboard. The available T ext Input modes are: Note: When in abcd mode, the &123 key appears. When in &123 mode, the abcd key appear s.

36 Using Emoticon Mode Use Emoticon mode to add combinatio ns of characters to your text input. 1. T ouch at the bottom of the screen. Entering T ext 37 3. T ouch one of the words to replace the w ord that has already be en typed or swipe across the list of words for more word sug gestions. If you replace the word, a space is e ntered after the word and the cursor automatically advances to the next space.
38 Menu Opti on Some locations enable you to copy an entire section of text by using a menu option. T o copy text that supports the menu option: 1. T ouch and hold the text or link you want to copy unt il a menu appears. 2. T ouch copy or copy link . The following loca tions support this option: • Headings of email messa ges.

40 Making a Call from People Y ou can store phone numbers that you use r egularly in the phone’ s memory . These entries a re collectively called Peo p le . For fu rther details about the Peo p le feature, see “Dialing or Messaging from People” on page 48.

Impor ting SIM Contacts to Y our Phone Y ou can import all contacts from your SIM card to your phone.

48 Group Options Once you have creat ed a group, there are several o ptions available for editing, deleti ng, and so on. 1. From the Home screen, touch Peo p l e . 2. Swipe to the together menu, then scroll down and touch the group t ha t you want to display .

50 Linking P eople Linking P eople Infor mation Many people now maintain mul tiple email accounts, social networking logins, and other similar account informa tion. For example, a Facebook account login name might differ fro m a corporate email account login because they are maintained separately and for different groups of people.

60 Photos The Photos applica tion is where you view photos and play back videos. Y ou can set photos as your lock screen background or share them as a picture mes sage. And you can use your camera to scan barcodes, QR Codes, Mi crosoft T ags, books , CD’ s, and other DVD’ s and get more information on these products with your Internet browser .

62 Viewing Pictures Once you locate the photo you want to view: 1. T ouch the thum bnail to view the picture. 2. While viewing a photo, touch each side of the photo and pinch inward or stretch outward to zoom in or out. – or – T ap the s creen twice to zoom in or out.

Using the phone’ s main display screen as a vi ewfinder , adjust the image by aiming the camera at the subject. Note: When taking a photo in direct sunlight or in bright conditions, shadows may appear on the photo.
Multimedia 67 Lenses Y our camera can scan ba rcodes, QR Codes, Microsoft T ags, books, CD’ s, and other DVD’ s and instantly retrieve information about these products using specialty apps called Lenses. T ext may al so be scanned and translated or searched.
68 Shooting Videos Tip : When shooting video in direct sunlight or in bright conditions, it is recommended that you provide your subject with sufficient light by having the light sourc e behind you. 1. From the Home screen, touch Camera . – or – Press the Camera key ( ).
Multimedia 69 • Effects : Change the color tone or apply special effects to the photo. Options include: O ff (none), Negative, Sepia, Mono, Was hed, Vintage Wa rm, Vintage Cold, Solarize, Posterize, Point Blue, Poin t Red-Y ellow, Point Green, or Cartoonize.
70 Assigning an Ima ge T o a Contact The Camera is also used to create an ima ge that can be assigned to the profile of one of your contacts or to your Me profile. 1. From the Home screen, touch Peo p l e . 2. From the Peop l e menu, touch the contact that you want to edit.

Messaging 75 Creating and Sending Multimedia Messages A multimedia message is a message that contains a picture attachment. T o create a multimedia messa ge and send it to another mobile pho ne or an email address: 1. From the Home screen, touch Messaging .
76 Displaying a Messaging Conv er sation T o view a convers ation in the Messaging thr eads list: 1. From the Home screen, touch Messaging ➔ threads . The Messaging threads list di splays any messages you have sent or received. All messages to or from another phone or email address are grouped in one conversation.

Th e delete , forward , and copy options display . 2. T ouch forward . The New Messag e screen displays with the contents of the selected message included.
80 Online Messaging Once you sign in to Windows Live, you have access to Windows Live Messe nger and you can chat with friends online. T o set your sta tus: 1. From the Home screen, touch Messaging ➔ online . 2. Swipe to the online screen and touch set your chat status and see who’s online .
Messaging 81 Setting Up an Email Account T o set up an email account: 1. From the Home screen, touch Email . – or – From the Home screen, touch E mail ➔ Option s ➔ add email account . – or – From the Home screen, touch Settings . Under the system menu, touch email + acco unts ➔ add an account .
82 Adv anced Email Setup For some email accounts, such as Outlook, entering your email address and password may not be enough information. Y ou may need to enter additional info rmation. 1. T ouch advance d setup . The Advanced Setup screen displays. 2.
Messaging 83 Checking Y our Email When you hav e new email, a number displays in the Email icon on the Home screen. T o check your email: 1. From the Home screen, touch the email icon (such as Hotmail ) of the account you want to check. The Inbox screen displays all emails in your inbox.

Messaging 85 R eading Emails When you touch an email entry in a folder , such as the Inbox, the email displays. Swipe up and down the screen to move through the email. Swipe acro ss the screen to vi ew the email. T ouch each s ide of the email and pinch inward or stretch outward to zoom in or out.
86 Note: Each additional recipient entry must be separated by a semicolon (;). 5. T ouch the Subject field and use the on-screen keyboard to enter a subject for your email. 6. T ouch the body of the email an d use the on- screen keyboard to enter your message.
Messaging 87 Email Account Settings Once your Hotmail or email a ccount is set up, you may want to adjust some of your settings. Note: Available options may differ dependi ng upon your email service provider . 1. From the Home screen, touch Settings .
88 T ouch the foll owing to check or uncheck the option: • Outgoing serv er requires authentication : Access to server requires authentication. • Use the same user name an d password for sending email : Use same login information for both outgoing and incoming email.
Messaging 89 Linked Inbo xes Each time you add a new email ac coun t, a tile is add ed to the Home screen with the email name a nd to the Apps list. When you add more than one email account, it is possible to link two or more email a ccounts so you can see all messa ges from those acco unts in one inbox.
90 Setting Up a Microsoft Account When you set up a Microsoft account, you are doing more than just setting up an email account. Y ou can get apps, play Xbox LIVE games, and more. 1. From the Home screen, touch Settings . Under the system menu, touch email + account s .
Changing Y our Settings 91 Section 8: Changing Y our Settings This section explains the sound and ph one settings for your phone. It includes such sett ings as: d isplay , security , memory, and any extra settings associated with your phone . Settings are divided into system settings and applications settings.
92 T heme Using the theme setting, you ca n change the background an d accent color for the screen. 1. From the Home screen, touch Settings . Unde r the system menu, touch theme . 2. T ouch the Background field and select dark or light . Note: Battery po wer is consumed at a faster rate when the background is set to light .
Changing Y our Settings 93 Lock Screen From this menu you can change the background, set a time- out screen that locks the phone after a specific amount of time, and set up the phone to re quire a 4-digit password to unlock the phone. 1. From the Home screen, touch Settings .

Changing Y our Settings 95 Air plane Mode Airplane mode allows you to use many of y our phone’ s features, such as Camera, Ga mes, and more, when you are in an airplane or in an y other area where ma king or receiving calls or data is prohibited.

Changing Y our Settings 97 Kid’s Cor ner Kid’ s corner gives parents a restricted area on your phone where you can share a pps, videos, games, and music with your child. They’ll ha ve a Start screen of their own and easy access to the items you add there.
