1 HD5212 Introduction Congratulations on your purchase of the Jensen HD5212 Mobile Receiver . It’s a good idea to read all of the instructions before beginning the installation. W e recommend having your Jensen HD5212 installed by a reputable installation shop.
2 HD5212 Prepar ation Tools and Supplies The following tools and supplies are neede d to install the radio. • T orx type, flathead and Philips screwdrivers • Wire cutters and strippers • T ools .
3 HD5212 Gray/Black (-) Gray (+) White/Black (-) White (+) Violet (+) + Green (+) Green/Black (-) Violet/Black (-) 15A iPod Nano iPod Mini iPod iPod Gen5 Power Antenna (BLUE) Connect to power antenna or amplifier . If not used, tape bare end of wire. Accessory/Ignition (RED) Connect to existing radio wire or radio fuse.
4 HD5212 Installation This unit is designed for in stallatio n in cars, trucks and vans with an existing radio opening. In many cases, a spec ial installation kit will be required to mount the radio into th e da shboard. Thes e kit s are available at electronics supply stores and car ster eo spec ialty shops.
5 HD5212 9. Attach one end of the perfora ted support strap (supplied) to the scr ew stud on the rear of the chassis using the hex nut provided. Fa sten the other end of the perforated strap to a secure part of the dashboa rd either above or below the radio using the tapping screw and washer provided.
6 HD5212 Removing the Radio T o rem ov e th e ra dio after installation, remove the trim ri ng by pulling outwar d on one side and then the other . Insert the removal keys straight back, with the notches facing up, un til they lock. With the removal keys engaged, pull the radio straight out.
7 HD5212 Fr ont Panel Release The (open) button (9) releases the mech anism that holds the front panel to the chassis. Detaching the Front Panel T o detach the front panel: 1. Press and hold the powe r button (1) to turn the unit off. 2. Press the open button (9) and allow the front panel to fold down.
8 HD5212 Operation Power Press the (power) button (1) or any other button on the front of the radio (except release) to turn the unit on. Press a nd hold th e power button to turn the unit off.
9 HD5212 Menu Operation Press and hold the rotary encoder (4) to access the system menu. Repeatedly press the rot ary encoder button to access menu options in the following order: • BEEP ON/OFF: The beep tone feature allows the selection of an audible beep tone to be heard each tim e a button is pressed on the face of the radio.
10 HD5212 Reset Button The RESET button is located behind the front panel and should be activated for t he following reas ons: • initial installation of the un it when all wiring is completed • function buttons do not operate • error symbol on the displa y Use a ball point pen or thin metal object to press the RESET button.
11 HD5212 T uner Operation Press the SRC button (2) to switch to HD RADIO mode. About HD Radio™ Technology HD Radio technology allows CD-quality digital broadcasting of your local AM and FM radio stations. HD Radio br oadcasts can include multiple channels on the same frequency , which is called multicasting.
12 HD5212 NOTE: HD Radio multicast channels can be stored as pre set stations. Recall a Station Select a band (if needed) . Press a pre set button (13-18) to select the corresponding sto re d station. Preset Scan Scans stations stored in a ll FM or AM bands.
13 HD5212 Satellite Radio Operation Listeners can subscribe to XM® Radio on the Web by visiting www .xmradio.com, or by calling (800) 967-2346. Cu stomers should have their Radio ID ready (see “Displaying the Identification (ID) Code”). Customers can receive a limited number of free-to-air channels w ithout acti vation.
14 HD5212 6. Press the BAND/ENTER button to enter the se cond number and mo ve to the third position. NOTE: Use the TUNE/CH >> or TUNE/CH << button (10 and 1 1 ) to move between the first and third positions. 7. T urn the ro tary enco der again to select the third digit of the chann el you want to tune to (0 - 9).
15 HD5212 CD Player Oper ation CDP mode can only be accessed when a disc is inserted. If a disc is already in place, press the SRC button ( 2) to access CDP mode and begin playback automatically . Insert CD Press the open button (9) and allow the front p anel to fold down to display the disc slot.
16 HD5212 ejecting and relo ading the dis c into t he player . While the disc is out of the unit, make sure it is clean and undamaged, and then load it corr ectly . If this does not solve the problem, pressing the rese t button may help, but will erase the time and preset m emory .
17 HD5212 MP3/WMA Operation MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) music files are digital audio files that are compressed to a llow more files on a single CD. This unit can play MP3/WMA directly from files contai ned on a CD-R/RW , SD card or USB device using the buttons on th e receiver (or o ptional remote co ntrol) as described below.
18 HD5212 FIle Playing Order When selected for play , files and fold ers (Folder Search, File Search or Folder Select) are accessed in the orde r they were written by the CD writer . As a result, the order in which they are expected to be played may not match the order in whic h th ey are actu ally playe d .
19 HD5212 Pause Press the 1/>/|| button (13) to suspend disc play . Press the play/pause button again to resume play . Track Select Press the TUNE/CH >> (10) or TUNE/CH << (1 1) button for less than one second to advance to the next track on the disc, or press and hold to fast forward or fast reverse through the disc.
20 HD5212 2. T urn the rotar y encoder (4) to browse all available folder or file s in the root directory . 3. Press the rotary encoder bu tt on to sele ct a fo lde r or file. • If a folder is select ed, two apostrop he s ( ‘ ‘ ) appear on the LCD, indicating that the selection is a folder .
21 HD5212 iPod Oper ation Accessing iPod Mode This unit is equipped with an iPod read y function that will allow you to control your iPod (if comp atible) using the front p anel control buttons. The following iPod versions are suppor ted: • iPod 3G (Firmw are version 2 .
22 HD5212 Shuffle (SHF) Press the SHF button (16) to randoml y play the files in all folders Press SHF again to stop the shuf fle function and resume normal p layback. Press and hold the SHF button to randomly play th e files in the current album (folder).
23 HD5212 Remote Control The remote control will allow you to control the basic functions of the HD5212. The re mote control se nsor is at the to p left below the SELECT button (5).
24 HD5212 Care and Maintenance CD Player The following guidelines will help you ex tend the life of your CD player: 1. When cleaning the ve hicle interior , do not get water o r cleaning fluids on the unit. 2. The CD player will not operate prop erly in extreme hot/cold or under damp conditions .
