Connecting th e Machine 11 1 Connecting the Machine to the Host Using the Parallel Cable / IEEE 1394 (SCSI print) Cable Connect the machine to the host com- puter using the optional parallel board or the optional IEEE 13 94 inter- face board. This machine does not come with a parallel cable to connect the machine to the host computer.

Setting Pape r on th e Bypass Tray 13 1 Setting Paper on the Bypass Tray This section gives in st ructions fo r set- ting paper on the bypass tray. Use the bypass tray to print onto OHP trans- parencies, labels, thick paper, an d en- velopes that cannot be loaded in the paper tray.

Preparing th e Machine 34 2 Using as a Windows Network Printer Installing the PCL or RPCS Printer Driver To use the print server, install the prin ter drive r by selecting “Networ k printer server”, and then select th e Windows 2000 / XP, W indows Serve r 2003, or Win- dows NT 4.
Using as a Wi ndows Network Prin ter 35 2 H Select the [ Printer Name ] check box to select the printer models you want to use. The printer name can be changed in the [ Change settin gs for 'Printer Name' ] box. I Double-click the prin ter name to display the printer set tings.
Preparing th e Machine 36 2 Using as a NetWare Print Server / Remote Printer This explains how to set up the Windows computer used as the NetWare client. Important ❒ To install this printer driver under Windows 2000 / XP Professional, Win- dows Server 2003, and Windows NT 4.

Preparing th e Machine 38 2 Form Feed Do not use NetWare to configure form feed. Form feed is controlled by the print- er driver on Windows. If NetWare for m feed is configured, the pr inter may not print properly.
Installing th e Printer Driver Using USB 39 2 Installing the Printer Driver Using USB This section explains how to install printer drivers using USB. Before installing, check that only the ope rating system is run ning on the comput- er and no print jobs are in progress.
Preparing th e Machine 40 2 H Specify the location where USB Printing Support is located, and then cl ick [ Next > ] . If the CD-ROM drive is D, the source files of USB Printing Support are stor ed in the following location: D:DRIVERSUSBPRINTWIN98ME I Check the location, and then click [ Next > ] .

If installation is successful , the icon of the printer connected to the “USB001” port is added to the [ Printers ] window. Note ❒ The number after “U SB” varies depending on the number of printers con- nected.

Installing th e Printer Driver Using USB 43 2 D In the Found New Hardware Wizard display, click [ Search for a suitable drive r for my device [recommended] ] , and then cli ck [ Next > ] . E Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM dri ve. Note ❒ If Auto Run starts, click [ Cancel ] , and then [ Exit ] .
Preparing th e Machine 44 2 Troubleshooting for Using USB Problems Solutions The machine is not automatically recognized. Turn off the power of the machin e, reconnect the USB cable, and then turn it on again. Windows has already configured the US B set- tings.
Printing wi th Parallel Connection 45 2 Printing with Parallel Connection To use a machine connected using a parallel interface, click [ LPT1 ] when install- ing the printer driver. Important ❒ Quit all applications currently running, and do not print during installation.

Note ❒ If Auto Run starts, click [ Cancel ] , and then [ Exit ] . ❒ To disable Auto Run, press the left { Shif t } key when inserting the CD-ROM into the drive and keep it pressed un til the computer finishes re ading from the CD-ROM.

Preparing th e Machine 60 2 Using Adobe PageMaker Version 6.0, 6.5, or 7.0 Under Windows 95 / 98 / Me / 2000 / XP, Windows Server 2003, or Windows NT 4.0 with Adobe PageMaker, you need to copy PPD files to the PageMaker folder. PPD files have the .ppd extension in the folder “DRIVERSPSWIN9X_ME(Lan- guage)DISK1” on the CD-ROM.

77 4. Other Print Operations Printing a PDF File Directly You can send PDF files directly to the machine for printing, without h aving to open a PDF application. Limitation ❒ This function is possible only when the optional PostScript 3 unit is in- stalled.
Other Print Ope rations 78 4 Unauthorized Copy Control You can embed patterns a nd text under printed text to prevent unauthorize d copying of the document. Unauthorized Copy Control consists of two functions: [ Data security for copying ] and [ Mask type: ] .
Unauthorized Copy Control 79 4 ❖ Printing a document using [ Data security for copying ] 1. The print preview of the pattern and t ext y ou have set is displa yed. 2. The document is copied or stored in this machine or anoth er copi- er/multifunction machine where the optional Copy Data Security unit is installed.
Other Print Ope rations 80 4 Using [ Mask type: ] You can embed patterns and text in a document by setting in the pr inter driver to prevent unauthorized copying. ❖ Setting [ Mask type: ] in the printer driver • Select a pattern from [ Mask type: ] , and then enter text in the [ Text: ] box.
Unauthorized Copy Control 81 4 Reference For details about setting [ Mask type: ] , see Printer Dri ver Help. Limitation ❒ Only the RPCS printer driver is supported. ❒ Printing at 200 dpi is not possible. ❒ You cannot partially embed patterns and text strings in a document.
Other Print Ope rations 82 4 Using the Print Job List Print files stored in the machine can be printed. You can select the pr int files from the Complete List or List Per User ID screen. Selecting the Initial Print Job List For the print job list, select one of the two display types : • Complete List: displays a list of saved print jobs.
Using the Print Job L ist 83 4 Displaying a Print Job List A list of files stored in the machine can be viewed on the display panel. A Press the { Printe r } key.

Other Print Ope rations 86 4 Sample Print Use this function to print only the first set of a multiple-set print job. After you have checked the result, re main- ing sets can be printe d or canceled us- ing the machine's control panel. This can reduce misprints due to mistakes in content or settings.
Sample Print 87 4 B Start printing from the applica- tion's [ Print ] dialog box. Note ❒ Make sure to set mo re than tw o copies. The Sample Print jo b is sent to t he machine, and the first set is printed. C On the machine's control panel, press the { Printer } key to display the Printer screen.

Locked Print 89 4 Locked Print Use this function to mainta in privacy when printing confidential documents on the machine over a shared networ k. Usually, it is pos sible to print d ata us- ing the displ ay panel once it is stored in this machine.
Other Print Ope rations 90 4 D Press [ Print Jobs ] . A list of print files stored in the ma- chine appears. E Press [ Locked Print Job List ] . A list of Locked Print files stored in the machine ap pears. The following items also appear: • User ID: The use r ID set up by the printer driver.
Locked Print 91 4 I Press [ Yes ] . The locked file is printed. Importan t ❒ When printing is completed, the stored file is deleted. Note ❒ Press [ No ] to cancel printing. ❒ To stop printing after printing has started, press [ Exit ] , and then press [ Job Reset ] .
Other Print Ope rations 92 4 Hold Print Use this function to temporarily hold a file in the machine, an d print it from the computer or the machine's con trol panel later. Limitation ❒ A Hold Print file can not be stored if: • the total number of Sample Print, Locked Print, H old Print, and Stored Print files in the machine is over 100.
Hold Print 93 4 C Start printing from the applica- tion’s [ Print ] dialog box. The Hold Print job is sent to the machine and stored. D On the machine’s control panel, press the { Printer } key to display the printer screen. E Press [ Print Jobs ] .
