TD-000201- 00 rev .A *TD-000201-00* RA VE 520uz 8 input CobraNet Enabl ed Signal Processor Hardware Manual.
IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS & EXPLANATION OF SYMBOLS The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol wit hin an equilateral tri angle is intended to al ert the user to the presence of uninsula ted “dangerous” voltage within the product’ s enclosure t hat may be of sufficien t magnitude to constit ute a risk of electri c shock to humans.
Introduction 1- Power indicator 2- Diagnostic indicator 3- Network status indicators 4- Signal presence/clip indicators 5- Multi-function push buttons 6- Display 7- Rotary select/accept knob 8- Safe.
Unlike other configurable DSP boxes, the intrinsic process- ing latency of the RA VE 520uz is both short and fixed at 0.396 milliseconds. The delay does not change regardless of the DSP configuration, unless the configuration intention- ally adds more delay .
Introduction - Networking the RA VE 520uz The RA VE 520uz has two RJ-45 network connection ports on the rear panel. One port is labeled "QSControl" and supports sta ndard 10BASE-T Ethernet. The other port is labeled "CobraNet" and supports 100BASE-TX, also k nown as "Fas t Ethernet".
Third, the RA VE 520uz and QSControl.net system are targeted at network switch deployments. The consumer costs of Ethernet switches have continued to fall over the last several years and are now comparable with repeaters on a per port basis.
Example #2 - CobraN et X-over mode: This is the simplest connection you can make between a RA VE 520uz and a “destin ation” product such as the BASIS 922az/902zz/9 04 zz or the RA VE 522aa.The RAVE 520uz is the audio “source” in this exam ple.
Example #3 - Singl e Wire Interface: Here all QSControl.net and CobraNet traffic shares the same single CA T -5 cable between the RA VE 520uz and an unmanaged Ethernet switch.
Example #4 - T wo-Wire Interf ace (shared network hardware): This example illustrates the T wo-Wire Interface with a managed Et hernet switch. The switch is configured with multiple virtual local area networks (VLANs). Ethernet deliveries can only reach des tination ports belonging to the same VLAN from which it was sourced.
Example #5 - T wo-Wire Interf ace (separate netwo rk hardware): Example #5 is conceptually similar to example #4. The differenc e here is that separate networks are created by providing each l ocal area network (LAN) with its own network switch. Therefore, tra ffic segmentation is physical rather than logical.
Unpacking There are no special unpacking precautions. However , it is recomm ended you keep the original pa cking material for reuse in the rare event that service be required.
Computer Requirements & Software Installation Installing QSControl.net is easy . All you need to do is choose th e folder where the program is to be stored (the default settin g is accept- able for most applications). We recommend your syste m meet the following minimum requirements: 1- IBM PC compatible computer with a Pentium 4 processor .
General Information & Configuration Memories Network The network should be operable and QSControl.net software s hould be installed/running on the system controller computer .
Connections AC Power Cord Insert the molded receptacle of the AC power cord into the AC power inlet on the back of the RA VE 520uz. Plug the AC line connec- tor into the AC outlet. The power supply will accept from 100 to 240 V olts AC, 47 to 440 Hertz, without any changes.
Relay Out T w o sets of relay contacts are provided, RELA Y OUT 1 and RELA Y OUT 2 . Contacts are floating and rated for 30VDC, 1A. There is one common terminal, one normally-closed contact terminal and one nor- mally-open contact terminal. These are labeled as C, NC and NO on the rear panel.
LED Indicators (continued) QSControl and Cobra Net Network St atus (Port) Indicators- There is a group of LEDs on the front and rear panels labeled RX, TX and LINK. One group is for the QSControl.net network por t and the other for the CobraNet network port.
LCD Navigation Map Left si de buttons have s creen depe ndent fu nction s. This read-o nly screen is the “out of th e box” defa ult display aft er power up. This is the most desired information when first se tting up a network system. Once user mov es to a di fferent sc reen, the la st screen accessed beco mes the new power up default.
Getting Started This section outlines one of the simpler methods of getting familiar with your RA VE and the QSControl.net software. The goal of this procedure is to get your computer and the RA VE connected and communicating and the QSControl.net software installed and running .
Getting Started (continued) 17- Select Device , Add Device , from the menu. A new window will open prompting you to name the device. Name it logically , such as RA VE 1, or similar . Select the Device T ype and select RA VE 520uz. At the Password prompt, enter “qsc” (lower case, no quotat ion marks).
Operation QSControl Port The QSControl port operates on a 10BaseT Ethernet network. This por t is one of the primary means for connecting QSControl.net to the RA VE. The port may connect directly to a PC's 10BaseT or 10/100 ( auto-sensing or auto-negotiating) network interfac e card using a crossover cable.
Utility/Diagnostic Functions SafeMode Switch Location of Safe Mode switch: The front panel has a small access hole on the left side, just left of the Power indicator . It is not labeled to help prevent accidental use. The Safe Mode switch can be operated by using a paperclip (or similar item) inserted in to the access hole and pushing.
Utility/Diagnostic Fu nctions (continued) RS-232 Communications Procedure: 1) Connect the RS-232 port of the RA VE 520uz to an unused serial port (COM port) of a PC using a normal (straight-through) serial cable. 2) Open the HyperT erminal program.
Utility/Diagnostic Fu nctions (continued) T elnet Access The RS-232 features can also be accessed via T elnet. The Micros oft T elnet application is a Windows program.
