4 ASSEMBL Y OPERA T OR’S POSITION (See Fig. 1) When right or left hand is mentioned in this manual, it means when you are in the oper ating position (standing behind tiller handles). Y our new tiller has been assembled at the f actory with exception of those parts left unassembled f or shipping pur poses.

7 OPERA TION The operation of any tiller can result in f oreign objects thr own into the e yes, whic h can result in severe e ye damage. Alwa ys wear safety glasses or e ye shields bef ore starting y our tiller and while tilling. W e recommend a wide vision safety mask o ver spectac les or standard saf ety glasses.

9 OPERA TION • Y ou will fi nd tilling much easier if you lea ve a ro w un- tilled between passes . Then go bac k between tilled rows . (See Fig. 9) There are two reasons for doing this. First, wide tur ns are much easier to negotiate than about-f aces.
10 GENERAL RECOMMEND A TIONS The warranty on this tiller does not co v er items that hav e been subjected to operator ab use or negligence. T o receive full value from the w arranty , operator m ust main tain tiller as instructed in this manual. Some adjustments will need to be made periodically to properly maintain your tiller .

12 MUFFLER Do not operate tiller without muffl er . Do not tamper with e xhaust system. Damaged muffl ers or spark arresters could create a fi re hazard. Inspect pe ri odi cally and re place if nec es sar y . If y our engine is equipped with a spark arrester screen assembly , re move e v ery 50 hours for cleaning and inspection.
13 TILLER T O ADJUST HANDLE HEIGHT (See Fig. 15) F actory assembly has provided lo west handle height. Se lect handle height best suited f or your tilling conditions . Handle height will be diff erent when tiller digs into soil. • If a higher handle height is desired, loosen the four nuts securing handle panel to engine brack ets .
14 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TINE OPERA TION CHECK (See Fig. 21) Be sure tines do not rotate when engine is running and tine control is in the “OFF” position. W ARNING: Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug to pre vent starting while chec king tine operation.

16 ST ORA GE ENGINE OIL Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace with clean oil. (See “ENGINE” in the Maintenance section of this man ual). CYLINDER(S) • Remo ve spark plug. • P our 1 ounce (29 ml) of oil through spark plug hole into cylinder .
17 Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST AR T ENGINE” in the Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se v eral minutes bef ore attempting to start. 4. Dir ty air cleaner. 4. Clean or replace air cleaner car tridge.
