1 Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The KN1108v / KN 1116v is an IP-based KVM control unit, with dual IP / dual power functionality, serial console access, and Virtua l Media support, that allows both local and remo te operators to monitor and access multiple servers from a single console.

KVM Over the NET™ User Manual 27 Hot Plugging KN1108v / KN1116 v switches support hot pl ugging – components can be removed and added back into the instal lation by unplugging and rep lugging cables from the ports without the need to shut the uni t down.

Its Port ID is a o ne or two segment number th at is determined as follows: A server attached to a First S tage un it has a one segment Port ID (from 1– 8/16) that corresponds to the KVM Port number that it is connected to.
29 Chapter 3 Super Administrator Setup Overview This chapter discusses the administrative procedures that the Super Administrator performs to get the KN1108v / KN1116v set up for the first time. First Ti me Setup Once the KN1108v / KN1116v has been cabl ed up, the Super Administrator needs to set the unit up for user operation.

35 Chapter 4 Logging In Overview The KN1108v / KN1116v can be accessed from a local co nsole; an internet browser; a Windows applicati on (AP) program; and a Java application (AP) program. No matter which access method you choose, the KN1108 v / KN1116v authentication procedure requires yo u to submit a valid username and password.

In addition, there are two small icons at the bottom right – as described in th e following table.
Chapter 5. The User Interface 52 The Control Panel WinClient Control Panel Since the WinClient Control Panel (for the ActiveX Web Viewer and WinClient AP) contains the most complete fu nctionality, this section d escribes the WinClient Control Panel.
KVM Over the NET™ User Manual 53 Right clicking in the text row area bri ngs up a menu-style version of the toolbar . In addition, it allows you to select options for the Screen Mode , Zoom , Mouse Pointer type, and Mouse Sync Mode . These functions are discussed in the sections that follow.
Chapter 5. The User Interface 54 WinClient Control Panel Functions The Control Panel functions are described in the tab le below. Icon Function This is a toggle. Click to make the Control Panel persistent – i.e., it always displays on top of other screen elements.

Chapter 5. The User Interface 56 Under an accessed port, clicking this icon cycles you through the compensation mode choices used by the Adapter cable that connects the device to the switch. Make a choice (Short, Medium, Long), depending on the length of Cat 5e cable used for the connection.

Each of these functio ns is described in the fol lowing sections. Hotkeys Various actions related to manipulating the remote server can be accomplished with hotkeys.

Click a radio button to choose whether you want to search by name or by key; key in a string for the search; then click Sear ch .

The opt ions in this dialog box all ow you to adjust the placement and picture quality of th e remote screen on your monitor: The meanings of the video adjustment options are giv en in the table below.
KVM Over the NET™ User Manual 67 Network T ype Select the type of internet connection that the local clien t computer uses. The switch will use that sele ctio n to automatically adjust the Video Quality and Detect Tolerance settings to optimize the quality of the video display .
Chapter 5. The User Interface 68 Gamma Adjustment If it is necessary to correct the gamma level for the remote video display, use the Gamma function of the Video Adjustm ent dialog box. Under Basic configuration, there are ten pres et and four user -defined levels to choose from.

To alleviat e the problem, a message board has been provided, which a llows users to communicate with each other: Button Bar The buttons on the Button Bar are toggles.

If you disable Ch at, however, messages that get posted to the board won't appear. Compose Panel Key in the messages that you want to post to the board in thi s panel.
