9 Chapter 2 Hardware Setup Cable Connections To set up your CS82U / CS84U installati on, refer to the installation diagram on the following page (th e numbers in the diagrams corresp ond to the steps, below), and do the following: 1. Plug your keyboard and mouse into the USB or PS/2 console ports locat ed on the unit’ s rear panel.

11 Chapter 3 Basic Operation Overview There are three convenient methods to access the computers: Manual – which involves pressing the port selection pushb uttons located on the unit’s front panel; Mouse – which involves clicking the scroll wheel of the USB mouse; and Hotkey – which involves entering combinati ons from the keyboard.
CS82U / CS84U User Manual 12 Mouse Port-switching The CS82U / CS84U supports the very latest in mouse port-switching – simply double-click the scroll wheel of your USB mouse to cycle thro ugh the ports. Note: 1. This featured is only supported by USB 3-key scroll wheel mice.

15 Chapter 4 Hotkey Operation The CS82U / CS84U provides an extensi ve, easy-to-use, hotkey function that makes it convenient to control and configu re your KVM installation from the keyboard. Port Switching All port switches begin with tappin g the Scroll Lock key twice.
CS82U / CS84U User Manual 16 Auto Scanning The CS82U / CS84U’s Auto Scan feature automatically cycles the KVM focus through the computer ports at regular intervals. This allow s you to monitor the computer activity without having t o take the troubl e of switching from port to port manually.
Chapter 4. Hotkey Operation 17 Hotkey Setting Mode Hotkey Setting Mode is used to set up your CS82U / CS84U swit ch configuration. All op erations begin with invoking Hotkey Setting Mode (HSM). Invoking HSM To invoke HSM do the fol lowing: 1. Press and hol d down [Num Lock] .

23 Chapter 5 Keyboard Emulation Mac Keyboard The PC compatible (101/104 key) keyboard can emu late the functions of the Mac keyboard. The emulation mappings are listed in the table below. Note: When using key combinations, press and release the first key (Ctrl), then press and release the activation key .
CS82U / CS84U User Manual 24 Sun Keyboard The PC compatible (101/104 key) keyboard can emul ate the functions of the Sun keyboard when t he Control key [Ctrl] is used in conjunction with other keys. The corresponding function s are shown in the table below.
25 Chapter 6 The Firmware Upgrade Utility The Windows-based Firmware Upgrade Uti lity (FWUpgrade.exe) provides a smooth, automated process for u pgrad ing the KVM switch’s firmware. The Utility comes as part of a Firmware Upgrade Package that is specific for each device.
CS82U / CS84U User Manual 26 4. At the other end of the custom KVM cable set, connect the SPHD connector to the Port 1 KVM section. 5. Invoke Firmware U pgrade Mode (see Firmware Upgrad e Mode , page 20). The front panel LEDs flash to indicat e that Firmware Up grade Mode is in effect.

If you enabled Check Firmware V ersion, the Utility compares the device’ s firmware level with that of the u pgrade files.

The Firmware Upgrade Utility 29 Upgrade Succeeded After the upgrade has completed, a screen appears to inform you that the procedure was successful: Click Finish to close the Firmwa re Upgrade Utility. After a successful completion, the CS 82U / CS84U exits Firmware Upgrade Mode, and resets itself.
