1 Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The CS72D / CS74D 2/4-Port USB DVI KVM Switch allow s yo u to cont rol two or four computers using one USB mouse, USB keyboard and Digi tal Visual Interface (DVI ) monitor console. It support s digital video devices, such as flat panel displays, data projectors, plasma displays and digital TVs.

9 Chapter 2 Hardware Setup Cable Connections To set up your CS72D / CS74D, refer to the installation diag ram on the following page (the numbers in the diag ram correspond to t he steps below), and do the following: 1. Plug your USB keyboard and USB mouse into the USB C onsole ports located on the unit’ s side panel.

11 Chapter 3 Basic Operation Manual Switching There are three convenient methods to access the computers: Manual – which involves pressing the port selection pushb utt ons located on the unit’s front panel; Mouse – which involves clicking the scroll wheel of the mouse; and Hotkey – which involves entering combinatio ns from the keyboard.
CS72D / CS74D User Manual 12 Hot Plugging The CS72D / CS74D supports USB hot plugging – com ponents can be removed and added back into the installatio n by unplugging their cables from the USB hub ports without the need to shut the unit down.
13 Chapter 4 Hotkey Operation The CS72D / CS74D provides an extensi ve, easy-to-use, hotkey function that makes it convenient to control and configu re your KVM installation from the keyboard. Hotkey Setting Mode All hotkey operations begin wit h tappi ng the Scroll Lock key twice.
CS72D / CS74D User Manual 14 Alternate Hotkey Setting Mode The port switching activation keys can be changed from tapping the Scroll Lock key twice ([Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock]) to tapping the Ctrl key twice ([Ctrl] [Ctrl]). To change the port swit ching activation keys, do the following: 1.
4. Hotkey Operation 15 When you use the port switching hotkey or HSM, the mouse cursor must be in the current computer display. While Auto Scan Mode is in effect, ordinary ke yboard and mouse functions are suspended – only Auto Scan Mode complian t keystrokes and mouse clicks can be input.
CS72D / CS74D User Manual 16 Mouse Port-switching The Mouse Port-switching function can be enabled or disabled. The default setting is disabled. To enable, do the follo wing: 1. Invoke HSM (see page 13). 2. Press [W] or [w] [Enter] . This procedure is a toggle.

21 Chapter 5 Keyboard Emulation Mac Keyboard The PC compatible (101/104 key) keyboard can emu late the functions of the Mac keyboard. The emulation mappings are listed in the table below. Note: When using key combinations, press and release the first key (Ctrl), then press and release the activation key .
CS72D / CS74D User Manual 22 Sun Keyboard The PC compatible (101/104 key) keyboard can emul ate the fu ncti ons of the Sun keyboard when t he Control key [Ctrl] is used in conjunction with other keys. The corresponding function s are shown in the table below.
23 Chapter 6 The Firmware Upgrade Utility The Windows-based Firmware Upgrade Uti lit y (FWUpg rade.exe) provides a smooth, automated process for u pgrad ing the KVM switch’s firmware. The Utility comes as part of a Firmware Upgrade Package that is specific for each device.
CS72D / CS74D User Manual 24 4. Press and hold the Port 1 pushbutton on the unit's front panel. While holding down th e Port 1 pushbutton, connect PC1 's USB Keyboard T ype A connnector in the Custom KVM cable set to a USB port on your computer .
6. The Firmware Upgrade Utility 25 3. Click Next. The Firmware Upgrade Utility main screen appears. The Utility inspects your in st allat ion. All the devices capable of being upgraded by the package are listed in the Device List panel. 4. As you select a device in the list, its description appears in the Device Description panel.
CS72D / CS74D User Manual 26 If you enabled Check Firmware V ersion, the Utility compares the device’ s firmware level with that of the u pgrade files. If the device’ s version is higher than the upgrade versi on, a dialog box gives you the option to Continue or Cancel.
6. The Firmware Upgrade Utility 27 Upgrade Succeeded After the upgrade has completed, a screen appears to inform you that the procedure was successful: Click Finish to close the Firmwa re Upgrade Utility. After a successful completion, the CS 72D / CS74D exits Firmware Upgrade Mode, and resets itself.
