5 Getting Started T elephone installation Install the telephone as shown below . Choose a location where the phone is not exposed to excessive heat, cold, dust or moisture. TEL LINE POWER AC 6V Plug power cord transf or mer into electrical outlet. Plug line cord into telephone jack.

7 Getting Started Plug power cord transf ormer into electrical outlet. After cords are connected, press and slide down firmly so phone is held securely on outlet mounting pegs. 8 T elephone Operation Basic operation Making and answ ering calls T o answ er a call, lift the handset, or pr ess SPEAKER to use the speak erphone . T o mak e a call, lift the handset (or press SPEAKER ), then dial a number . Replace the handset (or press SPEAKER ) to hang up .
9 T elephone Operation Options while on calls T o adjust listening volume Press the VOLUME buttons to adjust listening v olume . There ar e eight volume le vels for the speak erphone , and four lev els for the handset. Each button press raises or low ers listening volume by one le vel.

Individual messages can be up to 3 minutes long, but total maximum r ecording time is 19 minutes.

Befor e using the answering system, you should follo w the steps at left to set the da y and time , so messages are dated cor rectly .

20 Answering System Operation Ao MSG# Announce Only mode In Announce Only mode, callers hear an announcement but cannot lea ve messages. This option is useful, for example, to notify callers that you will be a wa y for an extended period and request that the y call back after a certain date .

23 Answering System Operation Recording and pla ying memos Memos are messages y ou recor d yourself. They are sa ved, pla yed back and deleted exactly lik e incoming messages. Y ou can r ecord a memo as a reminder to yourself, or lea ve a message for someone else if others in your household use the ans wering system.

25 Answering System Operation 25 1 Remote access Dial your telephone number from any touch-tone phone. 2 When system answ ers, enter your 3-digit Remote Access Code (500 unless you ha ve changed it). 3 Enter remote commands (see list at right). 4 Hang up to end call and sav e all undeleted messages.

28 Appendix Incomplete messages • If a caller leaves a very long message, part of it may be lost when the system disconnects the call after 3 minutes. • If the caller pauses for more than 7 seconds, the system stops recor ding and disconnects the call.
