3 EN Introduction Thank you for purchasing the OMRON M1 Plus Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monito r . The OMRON M1 Plus is a manual inflation blood pressure monitor , operating on the oscillometric principle. It measures your blood pressure and puls e rate simply and quickly .

8 2.Preparation 2. Prep aration 2.1 Inst alling/Replacing the Batteries 1. T urn the main unit upside down. 2. Slide the batter y cover in the direction of the arrow while pressing the ribbed p art of the cover .
9 2.Prepara tion EN Battery Life & Replacement If the battery low symbol ( ) ap pears on the display , replace all four batteries at the same time. - When the battery low symbol ( ) start s to blink, you will still be able to use the unit for a short while.
10 2.Preparation 2.2 Setting the Date and T ime Y our blood pressure m onitor au tomatically stores up to 21 measurements values, in cluding date and time of measurement, in its memory and calculates an average value based on the three most recent measurement s taken within 10 minutes of the last reading.
11 2.Prepara tion EN 3. Press the SET button to confirm the setting when the desired number appears on the display . The year is set and the mo nth digit s flash on the display . 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the month. The month is set and the day digits flash on the display .
12 2.Preparation 7. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the minutes. The minutes settings is set. The unit automatically switches to standby mode af ter the minute setting has been set. T o adjust the date and time, press the SET button twice while the monitor is in st andby mode.
13 2.Prepara tion EN 2.3 Adjusting the Settings Modes Y ou can modify the options for the various settings of your unit . This is done by pressing the SET button to s e lect a setting, then pressing the MEMORY button to select the options for that setting.
14 3.Using the Unit 3. Using the Unit 3.1 How to Sit Correctly When T a king a Measurement Y ou can take a measurement on either your left or right arm. Note: • Measurement s should be taken in a quiet place and you should be in a relaxe d, seated position.
15 3.Using the Unit EN Notes: • Correct posture during meas urement is necessary to get accurate results. • Y ou should also try to measure your blood pressure at the same time each day .
16 3.Using the Unit 3.2 Applying the Arm Cuff Be sure to wrap the arm cuff correctly so that you get accurate results . Measurements can be taken in li ght clothing. However , please remove thick clothes, such as sweaters, before taking a reading. 1. Connect the air tube of the arm cuf f and the inflation bulb to their respective air connectors.
17 3.Using the Unit EN 3. Position the arm correctly . T aking measurements on the right arm Apply the cuf f so that the air tube is at the side of your elbow . • Be careful not to rest your arm on the air tube, or otherwise restrict the flow of air to the cuff.
18 3.Using the Unit 3.3 T aking a Reading 1. T urning on the unit. Note: Press the air release button to release any air in the arm cuf f. 1) Press the I/O button to turn the unit on. 2) All items in the display will be displayed briefly . The battery symbol will also be displayed for test purposes.
19 3.Using the Unit EN • The current time con tinues to be displayed while the cuff is being inflated. Note: Do not inflate the arm c uf f more than necessary . 3. Measurement start s. Measurement st arts automatically after you stop inflating the arm cuff.
20 3.Using the Unit The deflation symbol flashes on the display . Blood pressure and pulse rate values are displayed. 4. Measurement ends. Press the air re lease button to release the air in the arm cuf f until the deflation sym bol is no longer displayed.
21 3.Using the Unit EN Import ant: • If your systolic or diastolic pressure is outside the standard range, the heartbeat symbol will blink when the measur ement result is displayed. Recent research suggest s that the following values can be used as a guide to high blood pressure for measurement s taken at home.
22 3.Using the Unit What is Irregular Heartbeat? An irregular heartbeat is a heartbeat rhythm that varies by more than 25 % from the average heartbeat rhythm detected while the unit is measuring the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
23 3.Using the Unit EN 3.4 Using the Memory Function This unit has a memory capable of storing 21 set s of readings. Every time you complete th e measurement, the unit automatically stores the blood pressure and pulse rate. If there are three readings within 10 minutes of the last reading, the average of the three readings is displayed.
24 3.Using the Unit Note: If there are no measurement s result s stored in memory , the screen to the right is displayed. 3. Press the MEMORY button again, while the average values screen is displayed. The result from the most recent measurement is displayed.
25 3.Using the Unit EN T o Delete All the V alues Stored in Memory Y ou cannot delete individual store d readings, all the readings in the unit will be deleted. 1. T o delete stored readings, first press the MEMORY button. Then while holding it down, press the I/O button simultaneously for about 2-3 seconds.

T o help ensure a reliable r eading, avoid eating, smoking, or exercising for at least 30 mi nutes before takin g a measurement.
27 5.Handling Errors and Prob lems EN 5. Handling Errors and Problems 5.1 Error Messages Error Display Cause Remedy Cuff is under inflated. Press air release button and restart the measurement with a higher inflation level. Carefully read steps under section 3.

Refer to Ch apter 8. Pressure is too low . Press the inflation b ulb to inflate the arm cuff until the reinflation symbol goes out .
29 5.Handling Errors and Prob lems EN 5.2 T roubleshooting Problem Cause Remedy The reading is extremely low (or high). Arm cuff not applied correctly . Apply the arm cuff correctly . Refer to section 3.2. Movement or talking during measurement. Remain still and do not talk during measurement.
30 5.Handling Errors and Prob lems Nothing happens when you press the buttons. The batteries are empty . Replace the batteries with new ones. Refer to section 2.1. The batteries have been inserted incorrectly . Insert the batteries with the correct (+/ -) polarity .
31 6.Maintenan ce and Storage EN 6. Maintenance and S torage Maintenance T o protect your unit from damage, please observe the following: • Do not subject the main unit and cuff to extreme temperatures, humidity , moisture or direct sunlight. • Do not fold the cuff or tubing tightly .
32 6.Maintenance and Storage Calibration and Service • The accuracy of this blood pressure m onitor has been carefully tested and is designe d for a long service life. • It is generally recommended to have the unit inspected every two years to ensure correct fun ctioning and accuracy .
33 6.Maintenan ce and Storage EN S torage Keep the unit in its storage case when not in use. 1. Unplug the air tube from the air connector . 2. Gently fold the air tube into the arm cuf f. Note: Do not bend the air tube excessively . 3. Place the arm cuf f, inflation bulb and main unit in the storage case.
