6 1 GENERA L DESCRIPTION Portable infrared thermo meters measure surf ace te mperature w ithout to uching the surf ace. They collec t the infrared energy radiate d by a t arget and co mpute its surf ace tem perature. OMEGA OSP Series are portable infrar ed temperature d evice s designed to ease maint enance opera tions.

9 2 GENERA L FEATURES 2.1 General Temperatur e measurem ents of a liqu id or gaseou s compound have been su ccessfu lly ma de with th ermoele ctric or expansion t hermom eters thank s to the good ther mal ex change of t he sen sor with th e fluid.
10 2.5 Keyboard Traditiona l metal-cl ick sw itches, with a w orking life of one mi llion o peration s, are u sed to enter the operator’ s instructions. The conta ct closure of the keyboar d keys is ac know ledged, as a coded signal, d irectly by the mi crocontr oller.

14 4.3 Microcontroller The micr ocontroller handle s all th e logic fun ctions of the instru ment, p erforms the lin earization f or non linear transducer s, compensate s for the referenc e junct ion temperat ure, driv es the digi tal di splay and acknow ledges a ll the o perator’ s instruct ions.

16 6 PRE-OPERATIONAL CHECK OSP series portab le therm ometers are powered ei ther by four alkali ne or by Ni-MH rechargeable batteries (o ptional). The ex ternal battery charger, supp lied a s a stan dard , is s et for 115V ac pow er source.
17 7 POWER SUPPLY The instr ument may be pow ered by al kaline or rechargeab le batter ies or d irectly fro m the main line. OSP uses 4 batteries type AA that ar e locat ed ins ide the bas e of the h andle. 7.1 Rechargeable b atteries The rechar geable batter ies are shipped w ith an average level of charg e.

26 9.9 A utomatic Emissiv ity Setting This fun ction is u sed to mak e an aut omatic settin g of emi ssivity using an ex ternal thermoc ouple connect ed with the auxiliary input. • If necessary, enabl e the thermo couple input ( see par. 9. 2) and sele ct the t hermocoupl e type ( see par.
