Do not l oad paper abo ve the maximum h eight line (approxi mately 500 sheet s of 20 lb (80 g/m 2 ) pape r). 3. Gently push Tr ay 1 fi rmly all the way in to the machine.
15 Loadin g Print Media: Multipurp ose Drawer Load ing paper in the mult i- purpose d rawer The met hod of loadin g paper into the multi-pu rpose drawer is the same as described for T ray 1. When loading en velopes, p ostcards or transparency film, follow the descriptions bel ow .
16 F using Unit Pressu re Adjusment Levers When feedi ng en v elopes from the multipurpose drawer , damage to t he en velopes or smudged printing may occur e ven if en velopes are withi n spec ification . The proble m may be reduced b y shift ing the fu sing unit pressure ad justing levers from the normal position to the lo wer pressu re positi on.
17 Loadin g Print Media: T ransparency Fi lm Loading transp arenc y film Be sure t o load the transpare ncy film with the white labe l side u p. Make sure no image will be prin ted on the lab el. Printin g on the lab el may cau se smudge s on prints. T ransparency f ilm must be placed in sho rt edge f i rst ori entation.

Use the upper tray ac cording to the instru ctions for th e multi-purp ose drawer . Middle and low er paper tra ys Up to 500 sh eets of recommended p lain paper c an be loaded into th ese trays.
19 Loadin g Print Medi a: In the st and/M PD and 20 00 sheet pa per drawer Upper pa per tr ay The upp er paper tra y is equiv alen t to the multipurpose drawer . The method of loadin g paper and the paper that can be used are the same as for t he multi- purpose d rawer .
20 Adding T oner When toner runs out, th e message CHANGE THE TONER CAR TRIDGE appears on the displ ay indicating that t he print cartri dge must be replaced. If you press and h old do wn the INFORMA TION key whil e pri ntin g or i n standby , the quantity of toner remai ning (as a percent age) displays.

While holdi ng the l ock release b utton down, pull out th e printe r cartridge and remo ve it. 5. Remove the new printer c artridge from its bag and remov e the protect iv e material A.
22 Adding T oner (cont. ) 8. Gently remo ve the sealin g tape from the cartridge. 9. Remov e the drum protecti ve sheet from t he printer ca rtridge. Do no t touch or damage the surface o f the photo drum. 10.Cl ose th e duple x module. I f the machine is not equipped with t he duple x module, close the side co ver .
23 Develope r Cartridge Replac ement When the cart ridge needs replacing, a message wi ll appear in the display . Foll ow the pro cedure belo w to replace the de velo per cartridge. • Do not shak e the de veloper c artridge after the sealing tape has been remov ed.

Remov e the new de veloper ca rtridge from its ba g and remov e the tape and protecti ve material A and B. 6. Shake t he ne w de veloper cart ridge horizont ally f iv e or six t imes.
25 Cancel a Pri nt Job Cancel a P rint Job 1. Press BACK/C during pr inting . Printing stops and a message aski ng for con firmati on to delete t he job appears. 2. Press OK to delete the data. T o cancel dele tion, press BACK/C . Printing will resume.
26 Job Con trol The job hold funct ion can be us ed only if your pri nter is equi pped with the hard disk dri ve option. If Print after hold , Print bef ore hold or Pr oof prin t operation i s performed on the computer , print data will be held as a hold job .
27 Job Con trol (cont. ) 6. Use the same proce dure as step 5 t o enter the password fr om the second digit to th e fifth digi t and then press OK . 7. Sele ct ex ecution or cancel lation of printing , or data rete ntion afte r printing, a nd then press OK .
28 Condit ion S ettings There are th ree options that ca n be set from the O perator Panel fo r this setting : • Default settin gs: Basic settings used in prin ting. • PCL Sym bol Set : Esta blishes a PC L symbol set. • Print PS Er rors: Def ines whether a PostScr ipt error page is p rinted or not when a PostScript error has oc curred.
29 Default Settings The default settings a llow detailed print condit ions to be se t for prin ting wit hout any p rinter dri ver (for example, pr inting from MS-DOS and print ing from a compu ter withou t any printe r driver installe d).
30 Default Settings (cont.) How to Access De fault Settings 1. Press MEN U until SET OPERA TIONS C ONDITIONS appears. Any print job s held in the printer and an y job current ly transmit ted to the p rinter will b e printed with the form er printe r settings.
31 Custom Se ttings The items that can b e set: T ray settings: The paper type an d paper size for each tr ay are set here. A uto tray switchi ng: Used to automat ically switc h the paper tr ay to another tray of t he same paper size when paper runs out during continuous printi ng.
32 Misfeed Re moval General I nformation All messages ap pear on th e display panel of the main uni t. When a misfeed has occurr ed, printing wil l stop and the message sho w n belo w will appear . Follow the procedur e below to remove misfed paper . CAUTION • Do not damage or touch the photocond ucti ve drum.
33 Misfee d in the P aper Area Be su re to foll o w the misfee d rem ov al sequence. Do not pul l the paper tray out f irst as paper may be located bet ween the paper tray and the p aper feed section. If the tray is pulled f irst, the misf ed paper may be torn an d diff icult to remove.
34 Misfee d in the P aper Area (con t.) 3. If misfed pap er is not foun d in step 2, pull ou t paper tr ay 1 and remo ve the misfed paper carefu lly . 4. Gently close the paper tray . Push the paper tray b ack into the m achine. 5. Gently cl ose the duple x module.
35 Misfee d in multi-pu rpose drawer 1. If a v ailable, u nlatch t he duple x module , slide it to th e left and g ently mov e the module a way from the machine. If the mach ine is not equipped with a duple x module, open the side co ver . 2. Open the l eft co ve r of the stand/pape r drawer .

37 Misfeed in the transport area, fusing area and exit area CA UTION: The fusing unit is hot. T ake care when remo ving pap er . Do not touch the m etal parts. 1. Unlatch the duple x module and sl ide it to the left . Gently move the m odule awa y from the machine.

39 T roublesh ooting Whenever the printer stops or operation is not possible, check the operation panel display for messages. In most cases these me ssages will g ive sufficient informa tion to return the ma chine to an operating c ondition. In cases where this informa tion is not enough, check th e list below for more informati on.
