Insert the SIM ca rd and battery Insert the SIM card Important: To prevent damage to the SIM card, always remove the battery before you insert or remove the card. Important: Do not use a mini-UICC SIM card, also know n as a micro-SIM card, a micro-SIM card with an adapter, or a SIM card that has a mini-UIC C cutout (see figure) in this device.
3 Open the cover of the SIM card slot. 4 Insert a SIM card in the slot. Ensure tha t the contact area on th e card is facing up and the bevelled corner is facing toward the device. P ush the card in. 5 Close the cover of the SIM card slot. En sure that the cover is properly closed.
If the SIM card is not properly in place, the device can only be used in the offline profile. Insert the battery 1 Insert the battery. 2 To replace the cover, direct the top locking catches toward their slots. First, press the cover down in the middle, so that the middle catches lock into place.
Charge the b attery Your battery has been partially charged at the factory. If the device indicates a low charge, do the following: 1 Connect the charge r to a wall outlet. 2 Connect the charger to the device. 3 When the device indicates a full charge, disconnect the charger from the device, then from the wall outlet.
Switch the device on 1 Press and hold the power key. 2 If the device asks for a PIN code or lock code, enter it, and select OK . To delete a number, select . The factory setting fo r the lock code is 12345 . 3 Select your location. If you accidenta lly select the wron g location, select Back .
To change settings for automa tic screen and key locking, se lect Menu > Settings and Phone > Phone mgmt. > Auto. keygu ard > Keypad autolock period . Home screen The home screen is your starting point where you can collect all your important contacts or application shortcuts.
To view or modify connectivity settings ( ), to view the available wireless LANs (WLAN) if WLAN scanning is enabled, or to view missed events, select the top right corner (3). To make a phone call, select Telephone or (4). To open the contacts list, select Contacts or (5).
Media key To access applicati ons such as the musi c player or browser, s elect the medi a key ( ) to open the media bar, and select the applica tion. Tip: Hold your finger on the icon to see the name of the application. To open the application, raise your finger.

Swipe To swipe, slide your finger quic kly left or right on the screen. Example: When viewing an image, to view the next or previous image, swipe the image left or right, respectively. Tip: W hen the touch screen is locked, to answer a call, or to stop a clock or calendar alarm, swipe the screen.
To turn the s creen light on, ta p it. If the touch screen and keys are locked, ta pping the screen does not turn the screen light on. To unlock the screen and keys, slide the lock switch. Change the ringing tone Select Menu > Settings and Personal > Profiles .

Many features of the device use memory to store data. The device notifies you if the memory in different memory locati ons is low. Increase available memory Transfer data to the mass me mory or to a compatible computer. To remove data you no lon ger need, us e File manager or open the respective application.

A compatible headset is connected to th e device. A compatible TV out cable is connected to the device. A compatible text phone is connected to the device. A data call is active (network service). A GPRS packet data connection is active (network service).
Volume and loudspeaker control Adjust the volume of a phon e call or sound clip Use the volume keys. The built-in loudspeaker allows you to sp eak and listen from a short distan ce without having to hold the device to your ear. Use the loudspeake r during a call Select Activate loudsp.
Leaving applications running in the back ground increases the dema nd on battery power and reduces the battery life. To start a web connection ( network se rvice), in the dialler, tap and hold 0 . Offline pr ofile The offline profile lets you use the device without connecting to the wireless cellular network. When the offline profile is acti ve, you can use your device without a SIM card. Activate t he offline pr ofile Press the power key briefly, and select Offline .
Turning control — Select Silencing call s and Snoozing alarms to mute calls and snooze alarms by turning your device so that the display faces down. Select Auto- rotate display to rotate the display con tent automatically when y ou turn the device on its left side or back to a vertical position.
When connecting any extern al device or any headset, oth er than those approved by Nokia for use with this device, to the Nokia AV Connector, pay special attention to volume levels. Remove the SIM card 1 Remove the back cover by lifting it from the bottom end of the device.

Many of the options that you can use during a voice call are network services . Voice mailbox To call your voice mailbox (network service), in the home screen, select Telephone , and select and hold 1 .
If you do not want to answer a call, when the touch screen is unlocked, press the end key. If you activate the Call divert > Voice calls > If b usy function in phone settings, rejecting an incomi ng call also diverts the call. To reject a call when the touch screen is locked, swipe to unlock the screen, and select Options > Reject .
Speed dial a p hone number To activate speed dialling, select Menu > Settings and Calling > Call > Speed dialling . 1 To assign a phone n umber to on e of the number keys, select Menu > Settings and Calling > Speed dialling . 2 Go to the key to which you want to a ssign the phon e number, and select Options > Assign .

Make a video call When you make a video call (network service), you can see a real-time, two-way video between you and the recipient of the ca ll. The live video image, or video image captured by the camera in your device is shown to the video call recipient.

View the packet dat a connectio n details Go to an incoming or outgoing packet data connection ev ent indicated with GPRS , and select Option s > View . Copy a phone numb er from the l og Select Options > Use number > Copy . You can, for example, paste the phone number to a text message.
Virtual keyboard You can use th e virtual keyboard in landscape mode. To activate the virtual keyboard, select > Full screen QWERTY . This function is not available, if the automa tic input mode switch is in use (sensors are ac tivated). 1 Close - Close the virtual keyboard.
Alphanumeric keypad Virtual keypad With the virtual keypa d ( Alphanumeric keypad ), you can enter characters like you would with a traditional ph ysical keypad with num bers on the keys.

Traditional text input Tap a number key (1-9) re peatedly until the de sired character appears.
If the word is not correct, select * repeatedly to view the matching words the dictionary has fo und one by one. If the ? character is displayed after the word, the word is not in the dictionary. To add a word to the dictionary, select Spell , enter the word using traditional text input, and select OK .
Save and edit names and nu mbers Select Menu > Contacts . Add a new contact to the cont acts list 1 Select . 2 Select a field to enter information. To close the text input, select . Fill in the appropriate fields, and s elect Done . Edit contacts Select a contac t and Option s > Edi t .
To listen to the voice tag assigned to a cont act, select the contact and Options > Voice tag details > Options > Play voice tag . Before using voice tags, note the following: • Voice tags are not lang uage -dependent. They are depe ndent on the speaker's voice.

Fixed dialling With the fixed dialling service, you can re strict calls from your device to certain phone numbers. Not all SIM cards support the fixed dialling servi ce. For more information, contact your service provider. Select Menu > Contacts and Options > SIM numbers > Fixed dial contacts .
Tip: To avoid rewriting messages tha t you send often, use sa ved messages in the Templates folder in My folders. You can also create and save your own templates. Messaging contains the following folders: Inbox — Received messages, except e- mail and cell br oa dcast messages.
Only devices that have co mpatible features can rece ive and display multimedia messages. Th e appearance of a m essage may vary dependin g on the receiving device.
The message type may ch ange to mult imedia message base d on the inserted content. Send the mes sage or mail Select , or press the call key. Your device supports text messages beyond the limit for a single message. Longer messages are sent as two or more messages.
Multimedia mess ages Select Menu > Messaging . Important: Exercise caution when open ing messages. Messages m ay contain malicious software or otherwis e be harmful to your device or PC. Retrieve multim edia messages Select Options > Retrieve . A packet data connection is opened to retrieve the message to your device.
Save the data in a message Select Options and the corresponding option. Web service messages are notifications (f or examp le, news headlines), an d may contain a text messag e or a link. For availabili ty and su bscription, contact your service provider.
2 When the Settings wizard is opened for the first time, you are asked to define the e-mail settings afte r the operator settings. If you h ave used the Se ttings wizard before, select E-mail setup . 3 In the e-mail setup, rea d the information on th e display, and select Start .

Open an e-mail message offline To open an e-mail message, select the message. If the e-mail mess age has not been retrieved and you are offline, you are asked if you want to retrieve this message from the mailbox. View e-mail attach ments Open the message, and select the attachment field indicated with .
Delete an e-mail from the de vice and the remote mailbox Select Options > Delete > Phone and server . Cancel dele ting an e-ma il that has been marked to be d eleted from the device and server Select Options > Restore .

Service commands With service commands (network service) you can enter and send service r equests (also known as USSD comm ands), such as a ctivation commands for network services, to your service provider. This service may not be avai lable for all regions.
Reply via same centre — Reply to messages usi ng the same text message centre number (network service). Multimedia mes sage settings Select Menu > Messaging and Options > Settings > Multim edia messa ge . Select from the following: Image size — Define the size of the image in a mult imedia message.
Message validity — Select for how long the mess age centre resends your message if the first attempt fails (network service). If the mess age cannot be sen t within this time period, the message is deleted from the message centre. The device requires network support to indicate that a sent message has been received or read.

New landmark — To create a new landmark of your current position, select a location from a map, or enter the details manually. Ovi Contacts settings Select Options > Settings and from the following: Account — Access your account details, and defi ne your visibility to others in a search.
Share my location — Allow your friends to see your location. Share now playing — Allow your friend s to see what music you are currently listening to on your mobile device.
Personalisation settings Open the Contacts application a nd the Ovi tab. To change your personal isation settings, select Optio ns > Settings > Personalisation . Select from the following: Login on start-up — Sign in automatically to Co ntacts on Ovi when you switch on your mobile device.
Personalise your device You can personalis e your device by chan gi ng the home screen, tones, or themes. Change the look of your device You can use themes to change th e look of t h e d i s p l a y , s u c h a s b a c k g r o u n d i m a g e and main menu layout .

To modify the balance and stereo image or to enhance th e bass, select Options > Settings . To return to the home screen and leave th e player playing in the background, press the end key. To close the player, select Option s > Exit . Playlists Select > and Playlists .
To remove a song from a playlist, select Options > Re move . This does not delete the song from the devi ce; it only removes it from the playlist. To reorder songs in a playlist, select t he song you want to move, and Options > Reorder playlist .
Ovi Music With Ovi Music (netwo rk service), you ca n search, browse, purchase, and download music to your device. The Ovi Music service will eventu ally replace the Music store. Select Menu > Music > Ovi Music . To download music, you first n eed to register for the service.
Podcasting settings Select Menu > Music > Podcasting . To start using Podcasting, define yo ur connection and download set tings. Connection settings Select Options > Settings > Connection and from the following: Default access point — Select the access point to use to connect to t he internet.
Download podcasts After you have subscri bed to a podcast, you can download, p lay, and mana ge the podcast episodes. Select Menu > Music > Podcasting . View a list o f subscrib ed podcasts Select Podcasts . View indivi dual episode ti tles Select the podcast title.
To listen to the next or the previous station, select or . To mute the radio, select . Select Options and from the following: Stations — View saved radio stations. Tune stations — Search for radio stations. Save — Save the radio station. Activate loudspe aker or Deactivate loud speaker — Turn the loudspeaker on or off.
Gallery To store and organise you r images, video clips, sound clips, and st reaming links, select > . Tip: To access the images and video clips view quickly, tap the media key ( ) to open the media bar, and select . View and organise files Select > .
To edit a video clip or an image, select Optio ns > Edit . Select Options > Use file and from the following: Set as wallpaper — Use the image as wallp aper in the home screen. Set as call image — Set the image as a generic call image. Assign to con tact — Set the imag e as a call image for a contact.
Before viewing images and video clips on the TV, you may need to define the TV system (PAL or NTSC) and TV aspe ct ratio (Widescreen or Normal). Define the TV sy stem and aspect ratio Select Phone > Accessories > TV-Out . In TV-out mo de, you cannot use t h e TV as the camera viewfinder.
The opened image is displa yed in full-screen mode on the TV. When you open an image in the thumbnail view while it is displayed on the TV, zooming in is not available. When you select a video clip, it is played on the device displa y and the TV screen.
Image capture Still image controls a nd indicators The still image viewfinder displays the following: 1 Mode indicator 2 Zoom slider. To activate or deactiva te the zoom slider, tap the screen.
Select from the following: Select the scene. or Switch between video and image mode. or Show or hide the viewfi nder grid (images only). Activate the self-timer (images only). Activate sequence mode (images only ). Open Gallery. Image settings: Select a colour effect.
The screen displa y changes to match th e settings you defin e. The capture settings are sh o oting-mode specific. Switching between the modes does not reset the defined settings. If you select a new scene, the capture se ttings are replaced by the selected scene.
To leave the camera open in the backgrou nd and use other applications, press the menu key. To return to the camera , press and hold the capture key. After capturing an image After you capture an imag.
Avoid touching the flash LEDs when th e ba ck cover has been removed. The LEDs may get hot after prolonged usag e. Keep a safe distance when us ing the flash. Do not use the flash on people or animals at close range. Do not cover th e flash while taking a picture.
Add location informatio n to all captured material Select Options > Settings > Show GPS info > On . The location information is available only for imag es capt ured with the main camera. It may take several minutes to obtain the coordinates of your location.
Deactivate the self-timer Select > > . Tip: To keep your hand steady when capturing an imag e, try using a delay of 2 seconds . Capture images in a sequence Select Menu > Applications > Camera . The sequence mode is availabl e only in the main camera.
To zoom in or out, use the zoom keys. 4 To stop recording, press the capture key. The video clip is automatically saved in Gallery. Video recording on-screen co ntrols and indicators The video viewfinder displays the following: 1 Capture mode indicator 2 Audio mute on indicator 3 Capture icon.
— Post your video clip to co mpatible online sharing services. — Delete the video clip. To send the video clip to the pe rson you are talking to, select Options > Send to caller during a call. To return to the viewfinder to record a new video clip, press the captur e key.
A-GPS is a network service. Assisted GPS (A-GPS ) is used to retrieve assistance data over a packet data connection, which assists in calculating the coordinates of your current location when your device is receiving signals from satellites.
Establishing a GPS connection may take from a couple of seconds to several mi nutes. Establishing a GPS con nection in a vehicle may take longer. The GPS receiver draws its power from th e device battery. Using the GPS receiver may drain the battery fast er.
• If the weather cond itions are bad, t he signal str ength may be affected. • Some vehicles have tinted (athermic) windows, which may block the satellite signals. Ensure you do not cover the an tenna with your h and. Establishing a GPS connection may take from a couple of seconds to several mi nutes.
Landmarks With Landmarks, you can save the posi t ion information of locations in your device. You can sort the saved location s into different categories, such as business, and add details to them. You can use your saved landmarks in compat ible applicati ons.

Maps Maps overvi ew Select Menu > Maps . Welcome to Maps. Maps shows you what is nearby, helps you plan your route, a nd guides you where you want to go.
View your location and the map See your current location on th e map, an d browse maps of different cities and countries. Select Menu > Maps and My posit ion . marks your current position, if available. When your device is search ing for your position, blinks.

With cell ID based positioning, the posi tion is determined through th e antenna tower your mobile device is currently connected to. Depending on the available positioning method, the accuracy of positioning may vary from a few metres to several kilometres.
1 Select the search field, and enter sear ch words, such as a street address or postcode. 2 Select . To clear the search field, select . 3 Select an item from the list of proposed matches.
Rate a place Select a place, its information area ( ), Show deta ils , and the star ratin g. For example, to rate a place a s being 3 out of 5 stars, select the third star.
