Tip: If you have an older Windows Phone device, or have previously backed up your contacts in Windows Live, add your account to your phone, and import them to your phone straight from the service . Your old phone needs to support Bluetooth. The contac ts on your old phone need to be stored in the phone memory, no t on the SIM.
Unlock the keys and screen Press the power ke y, and drag the lock s creen up. Set the keys and screen to lock a utomatically On the start screen, swipe left, tap Settings > lock screen > Screen times out after , and selec t the length of time after which the keys and screen are locked automatically.
Do not connect products that creat e an output si gnal, as this may da mage the device. Do not connect any voltage source to the audio c onnector. If you connect an external device or headset, other than those approved for use w ith this device, to the audio connector, pay spec ial attention to volume levels.
Your calls are forwarde d to another number or you r voice mailbox. There is no SIM card in your phon e. Your SIM card is locked. A Bluetooth de vice is connected to your phone. A Wi-Fi connection is available. A Wi-Fi connection is active. An app or service is using your location info.
Basics Learn how to get the most out of your new phone. Get to know your phone Your phone has two main views, making it easy for you to keep u p with what is goin g on and what' s where.
Tip: If you've got lots of differ ent things to do, it's easy to switch between the tasks at hand. Press and hold , swipe to the app you wa nt, and tap the app. Use the touch screen Explore your phone with a tap, swipe or drag. 1. To use your phone, simply tap or tap and hol d the touch screen.
Tap and hold to drag an item Place your finger on the item for a second or two, and slide your finger across the screen. Swipe Place your finger on the screen, and slide it in the desired direction.
Example: Swipe left or right between the start screen and the apps menu, or between different views in the hubs. To quickly scroll through a long list or men u, slide your finger quickly in a flicking motion up or down the screen, and lift yo ur fing er.
Change the font size Drag the Text size slider. Switch high contr ast on Switch High contrast to On . Magnify the screen Switch Screen magnifier to On , and double-tap the screen with two fingers. When using the magnifier, use two fing ers to move around the s creen.

Resize or unpin a tile To resize, tap and hold the tile, and t ap the arrow icon. To unpin the tile, tap and hold the tile, and tap . Create a safe, fun start screen for kids You can let your k ids us.

Extend battery life Find the balance between getting the mos t out of your phon e while getting the battery life you need. There are steps you can take to save p ower on your phone . • Always charge the battery fully. • Mute unnece ssary sounds , such as key press s ounds.
• If you're lis tening to music or otherw ise using your phone, but don't wan t to make or receive calls, switch flight mode on. Save on data roaming costs Want to go easy on your phone bills? You can save on data roaming costs by chan ging mobile data settings.

Add an accent to a character Tap and hold the character, an d tap the accented character. Delete a cha racter Tap the backspace key. Switch between the writing languages Tap the language key repeatedl y until the language yo u want is shown. The lang uage ke y is only sh own when more th an one language is selected.
Switch word suggestions off On the start screen, sw ipe left, and tap Settings > keyboard . Tap your language keyboard, and clear the Suggest text check box. Add writing languages You can add several writing languages to your keyboard and switch be tween the language s when writing.
Scan codes or text Use your phone camer a to scan things, such as QR codes, barcodes, and book and DVD covers, and get further info on wh at your phone recognises. 1. Press . 2. Tap . 3. 1. On the start screen , tap . 2. Tap next to the name or phone numbe r. Make a conf erenc e cal l Your phone supports conference calls between two or more people. Th e maximum number of participants can vary, depending on your ne twork service provider.
Contact your service prov ider to get the default voicemail num ber. 3. If necessary, switch Use default voicemail number to On . 4. Switch Call forwarding to On , and type in your voicemail number in th e Forward calls to box.

Create, edit, or delete a contact group You can create contact groups, and send a message to several p eople at the same t ime. For exampl e, you can add family members to the same group and reach them quickly with the same message. Tap People , and swipe to toge ther .
Social networking services on your phone keep you connected. The social networking services are third-party serv ices and not provid ed by No kia. Ch eck the privacy settings of the social networking se rvice you are u sing, as you may share inf o with a large group of people.
Write on your friend's wall You can contact your friends by writing on their Facebook wall. 1. Tap People , and swipe to al l . 2. Tap a Facebook friend's profile and write on wall . 3. Write your message, and tap . Comment on a friend's status update In Facebook, you can contact yo ur friends b y commenting on their st atus updates.
You can open messages directly from the start screen. T ap Messaging . You can send and re ceive differ ent kinds of messages : • Text messages • Multimed ia messa ges that c ontain att achments, such as phot os • Chat messages Messages and chats between you and a particul ar contact are arranged into conversations.
3. To add a recipient from your contacts list, tap , or start writing a n ame. You can also type in a phone numbe r. You can add more th an one recipie nt. 4. Tap the message b ox, and write your message. Tip: To add a smiley, tap . 5. To add an attachment, tap and the file.
Reply to a mess age Don't keep your frien d waiting – reply to the message st raight away. 1. Tap Messaging . 2. In threads, tap the conversation containing the message.
Your phone may ask you about using you r location. You need to allow i t to use th is feature. 1. When writing a text message, tap > my location . Sending a message with an attachme nt may be more expens ive than sending a norm al text message. For more info, contact your service provider.
You need a Microsoft account to chat. When you co nnect your Facebook account to your Microsoft account, you can use Facebook chat in Messagin g. For more info, see the How-to section at www.windowsphone.com . Before starting to chat, set up a chat service.
Tip: Dependin g on yo ur mail account, you c an also sy nc other items than just mails to your phone, such as contacts and your calendar. If your phone doesn't find your mail settings, you can use advanced setup. For this, you need to know your mail account type and t he addresses of your incoming and outgoing mail server s.
Tip: You r phone can help you writ e your mail fast er. While writin g, your phone suggests possible next words to complete your se ntence. To add a word, tap a suggestion. To b rowse the list, swipe over the suggestions. This featu r e is not available in all languages.

Forwar d a mail Open the mail and ta p > forward . Delete mail Is your mailbox overflowing? Delete some m ails to free up space in your phone.

Camera Why carry a separa te camera if your phon e has all you need for captu ring memories? With your phone camera, you can easily take photos or record videos. Take a photo Shoot sharp and vibrant phot os – capture the best momen ts in your p hoto album.
Take a photo without using the camera key If needed, switch touch ca pture on in the camera settings. On the start screen, sw ipe left, and tap Settings . Swipe to applications , and t ap photos+camera > Tap screen to take pictures and videos . To focus on a specific ob ject or area, tap the object or area on the screen.
Take a close-up photo It can be tricky to get small objects, su ch as flowers, in focus. You need to move the camera closer to the object. To take sh arp and precise photos of even th e tiniest details, u se close-up mode. 1. To open the ca mera, press th e camera key.
Download Nokia Lenses from Store Would you lik e to make your camera even better and f ind new fun way s to take grea t photos? Download Nokia Lenses apps from Store. 1. To open the ca mera, press th e camera key. 2. Tap > find more lenses , and follow the instructions.
2. Take a photo or record a video. 3. Swipe rig ht, and tap > share... . 4. Select how you want to share, and follow the instructions. Tip: To quickly share a photo or video with someone close by, tap Tap+Send , and touch the other phone with your phone.
To find your p hotos and videos easily, mark you r favourites, or organ ise them into albums. View photos Relive those important moments – view the photos on your phone. Tap Photos . 1. To view a photo you've taken, tap Camera Roll and the ph oto.
2. Tap > share. .. and the service. 3. Tap or . Tip: To select several photos at once, in the Photos hub, tap the album and , select the photos, and tap . Tip: To access your photos from all your devices, you can set up uploadin g to SkyDrive. SkyDrive is then available in th e menu when you view your photos.
Delete an album When you delete an album from the phone, the photos in that album are also deleted. If you've cop ied the album to your comput er, the album and the phot os in it rema in on your computer. Tap Photos > albums . Tap and hold an album, and tap delete .
Maps & navigation Explore what’s out ther e and how to get there. Switch location services on Find out where you are using Maps, and s ave your lo cation to the photos you take – let apps use your location info to offer you a wider variety of services.
• Write a review for a place, or take a photo and uplo ad it for everyone to see, eith er on their phone or at the Nokia Maps website Contents of digital maps may sometimes b e inaccurat e and inc omplete. Nev er rely solel y on the content or the service for essential com munications, such as in emergencies.
Tip: Want to see more info about a place? The plac e details view can contain general info, photos, reviews, links t o guides, and f urther sugges tions of nearby p laces. When the location is sh own on the m ap, to se e the pla ce detail s view, ta p the info bubble.
Find certain types of nearby places When the nearby places are shown on the map, sw ipe up from th e bottom of th e screen, and tap show categories and a category. The nearby places in the category are shown in a list. To se e them on the map, tap the map.
4. In the place details view, tap . Tip: You can also pin a place to the start screen for easy access. When the place is shown on the map, t ap the inf o bubble and .
Nokia City Lens Are you looking for interesting things to do near by? Discover places around you with Nokia City Lens. You can: •F i n d p l a c e s o f i n t e r e s t • Search for specific place.
Tip: If there are m any places in the sa me location, to view th em, tap . View places in a list Hold your phone in portrait mode. Search for a p lace In the main view, tap , and write your search word.
A-GPS and other enhancements to GPS and GLONASS may require transferring small amounts of dat a over the cellular network. If you want to avoid data costs, for example when travelling, you can switch the mobile data connection off in your phone settings.
Internet Learn how to create wireless connections and browse the web while keeping your data costs down. Define internet connections Does your network service provider charge you a fixed fee for data transfer or on a pay as you use basis? Change the Wi-Fi and mobile data settings to reduce your dat a costs while roaming and at home.
Tip: You can also type in a password for the connection. 4. Select the connection on the other device. The other device uses data from your data pla n, which may resu lt in data traffic cost s. For info on availability and costs, contact your network service provider.

Share a web page When you've found an inter esting web page , you can sen d it to your friends. If yo ur friends are n ext to you, just tap th eir phones. O therwise, you can se nd the page in a text message or post it to your social networks. 1.

Sync music and videos between your phone and computer Do you have media on your PC that you want to listen to or watch on your phone? Use a USB cable to sync mus ic and videos between y our phone and computer. 1. Connect your phone to a c ompatib le computer with a USB cable.

The availability of payment methods de pends on your country of residence and your network service provider. Tip: If you need to, for example, temporar ily clos e your internet connection, tap and hold the downlo ading item, and tap pause . To resume dow nloading, tap re sume . Pause pending items individually. If a download fails, you can re-download the item.
Play a game Gaming on your phone is a trul y social experienc e . Xbox, Microsoft's gaming service, lets yo u play games with your friends and use your gamer profile to keep track of game scores and ach ievements. You can do this online, on your Xbox console, and on your phone i n the Games hub.

Wi-Fi connections Your phone pe riodically checks for and notifies y o u of available connections. The notification appears briefly a t the top of the scre en. To manag e yo ur Wi-Fi connections, select the notif ication. On the start screen, sw ipe left, and tap Settings > WiFi .
Before using NFC, make sure the screen an d keys are unlocke d. You may be able to pay or use your phone as a ticket even when your phone is locked, depending on your service provider. Connect to a Bluetooth accessory with NFC Hands busy? Use a headset.
Read NFC tags NFC tags can contain info, such as a web address, a phone number, or a business card. If you see a tag, why not tap it with your phone, and see what happens? Tap a tag with the NFC area of your phone.
Back up your phone and contact your service prov ider before providing your phone for repair or maintenance to ensure t he availabili ty of the paym ent or ticke ting services after repai r or maintenance. You may need to reinstall the third- party payment or ticketing app after the repair or maintenance.

Find your phone label If you need to call Noki a Care or your se rvice pr ovider, you need specific information listed on your phone label. The phone label is under the SIM hold er. To open the SIM holder, pus h the SIM door key into the hole until the holder is released, and pull the holder out.
