Phone at a gla nce 9 ■ The standby mode The start screen is home base and indica tes your phone is in the standby mode. Battery level (1)— Four bars in dicate a fu lly charged battery. Locatio n (2)—L ocatio n inf ormation sharing mode. Contacts (3)— Pres s the righ t sele ction key to select this option.
Phone a t a glance 10 ■ Phone menus Phone features are grouped according to function and are access ed through the main menus ( Get It No w , Messaging , Contacts , Recen t Calls , and Settings & Tools ). Each main menu cont ains subm enus and lists from which you c an select or view items and customize your phone features.
Phone at a gla nce 11 ■ Scroll method 1. In the standby mode, use the left and right selection keys to select Message or Con tact s . To a ccess the m ain me nus, s elect Menu with th e center selection key, then scroll left or right.

To improve the signal strength on yo ur phone, exte nd the external antenna as far as possible while in us e.

Set the back cover on the phone so that the metal tabs on the battery a lign wit h the tabs in the d evice.
Set up y our pho ne 14 3. Insert the charger output plug into the charger slot (2). The charge LED on the front cov er of your phone will glow red until charging is complete. The charge time varies depen ding on the battery level. The maximum charge time for a fully discharged, standard battery is ap prox ima tely 2 hou rs, 50 minu tes .

Set up y our pho ne 16 Speed dial numbers 97 , 98 , and 99 are pre-set numbers for Verizon Custome r Service , and a re fr ee ca lls. These three s peed dials ar e: • 97—# BA L : the billing balanc e is displayed or sent in a text me ssage. • 98—# MI N : the minutes used are displayed or sent in a text message.
Set up yo ur pho ne 17 Vibrate mode To turn vibrate only mode on for y our phon e and silence all other sounds, press the vo lume dow n key to red uce the vo lume until Vibr ate O nly is dis played. To quickly turn vibrate mode on or off, press and hold the # key.

Te xt entry Your phone offers four methods for entering text and numbe rs: Abc , ABC or abc (sentence case, uppercase, and lowercase), Word (sentence case, uppercase, and lowercase), 123 , and Symbols . The follow ing rules apply when entering text: • Press CLR to backspace the cursor and delete a character.
Text en try 19 Activate wo rd mode To activate word mo de at any text entry screen , press the e ntry mode select ion key, the n sel ect Word . Press * to switch among sentence case, uppercase ( WO RD ), and lowercase ( word ). Word mode text entry The illustrat ion below simula tes your dis play each time a key is press ed in word mode.
Get It Now 20 4. Get It N ow Get It Now allows you to downloa d ringto nes, news, in for mation, a nd games. Yo u can also find information su ch as the location of restaurants or A TMs. With Get It Now you can per sonaliz e your p hone to your o wn li festyle and ta stes.
Get It Now 21 ■ Get PIX Get PIX allows you to view, take, and send your digital pictures right from your wireless phone . This is a network feature. You can take phot os with the built-in 31 0-k pixel camera and flash. The camera produces photos in JPEG format.
Get It Now 22 ■ Fun and games To open games from the games gallery or download a new game, select Menu > Get It Now > Get Fun & G ames > Get Ne w App an d a ga me opt ion. S elect the ga me you want and a payment option, and downl oa d the title.
Get It Now 23 ■ Security and functionality Your phone supports a digital ri ghts management system to protect content that you have acquir ed. Content s uch as ringtone s may be prote cted and associat ed wit h c ert ain us age r ule s.
Messaging 24 5. Messaging If you have su bscribed to a mes sage ne two rk servic e, you can send a nd receiv e messages to and fr om compatible p hones that also subscribe t o a message service. You can also send and receive multim edia messages and e -mail.
Messaging 25 Images are scal ed to fit the d isp lay ar ea of the phone. Your phone has a PIX message viewer for playing messages. Incoming messages reside in the inbox until you delete o r save them. O nce you save the PIX mes sage, you can use the image a s wallpaper or use the sound as a ringtone.

Messaging 28 View the inb ox The number of messages in the inbox is shown in parentheses. When you ope n the inbox, the list of messages is displayed. The newest messages ar e displayed first.

Messaging 30 Signature —Cre ate or edit text that will automatically append to each out going TXT and PIX message. Select Cust om , en ter the si gnatu re t ext, an d sel ect OK . Select None > OK t o turn off the Signature functi on. TXT message setting s To view the cont ent of a received TXT message, select Auto View > On .
Messaging 31 The clear voice mail ic on option does not delete voice mail from your voic e mailbox. To delete messages, you mu st access your v oice mailbox and use the voice mail syst em commands. If you exceed the storage lim it for your voice mailbox, old messages may be overwritten.

Contact name s are saved in Contacts memory a nd each contac t entry ca n contain mult iple phone nu mbers and e-mail addresses. Contact entries can be ass igned to speed dials, picture IDs, ringtones, and caller g roups.

Contacts 34 Add a ri ngtone You can add a distin ctive ringtone to distinguish w hich contac t is calling your phone. To assign a rin gtone to a contact : 1. Sele ct Contacts , the contact you wish to modify, and Edit . 2. Scroll to th e R ingtone: field, and select Set .
