36 _ Loading originals and print media CHANGING THE SIZE OF THE PAPER IN THE PAPER TRAY To load longer sizes of paper, such as Legal-sized paper, you need to adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray. 1. Adjust the paper length guide to the desired paper len gth.
Loading or iginals and p rint media _3 7 Loading paper in the multi-purpose tray The multi-purpose tray can hold special sizes and types of print material, such as postcards, note cards, and envelopes. It is useful for single page printing on lette rhead or colored paper.
38 _ Loading originals and print media ADJUSTING THE OUTPUT SUPPORT The printed pages stack on the output tr ay, and the output support will help the printed pages to align. For the outpu t support to correctly align the pages, you need to pull it out approp riately depending on the paper size.

40 _ Copying CHANGING THE SCAN SIZE SETTINGS You can adjust the scan size for the or iginal paper. For e xample, if you scan a A4-sized original a nd set the scan size to A5, the machin e scans only the area of A5 (148 x 210 mm). We recommend you to change the right scan size for the origi nal paper.
Copying _4 1 Poster copying Your machine can print an image onto 9 sheets of paper (3x3). You can paste the printed pages together to make one poster-sized document. This copy feature is available only when you pla ce originals on the scanner glass. 1.

64 _ Maintenance Cleaning the scan unit Keeping the scan unit clean helps ensu re the best possible copies. We suggest that you clean the scan unit at the start o f each day a nd during the day, as needed. 1. Slightly dampen a soft lint-free clo th or paper towel with water.
Maintenance _6 5 2. Grasp the handles on the toner cartridge and pull to re move the cartridge from the machine. 3. Holding both handles on th e toner cartridge, thoroughly rock it fro m side to side to evenly distribute the toner. 4. Slide the toner cartridge back into the machine.

68 _ Maintenance MAINTENANCE PARTS To avoid print quality and paper feed proble ms resulting from worn parts, and to maintain your machine in top working condi tion the follow ing condition, the following i tems will need to be replaced after th e specified number of pages, or when the life span of each item ha s expired.

Open the inner cover using th e handle. 3. Open the inner cover using th e handle on it and carefully take the jammed paper out of the machine.
Troubleshooting _7 5 In the paper exit area If paper is jammed in the paper exit ar ea, follow the next steps to release the jammed paper. 1. If a long portion of the pa per is visible, p ull it straight out. Open an d close the front cover firmly . The machine will resume printi ng.
76 _ Troublesho oting 7. Close the rear cover. In the optional tray If paper is jammed in the optional T ray, follow the next steps to release the jammed paper. 1. Pull the optional Tray open. After you pull it all the way out, lift up the front part of the tray slightly to release the tray from the machine.
Troubleshooting _7 7 UNDERSTANDING DI SPLAY MESSAGES Messages appear on the control panel disp lay to indicate the machine’s status or errors. Refer to the tabl es below to understand the messages’ meaning and correct the problem if necessary. Messages and their meanings are listed in alphabetical order.
78 _ Troublesho oting File Name Exist T he file name yo u have entered already exists. Enter a different file name. File Name Over Limit The file names you can use are from doc001 to doc999. However, all file names are used already. Delete unnecessary files.
Troubleshooting _7 9 Not Assigned The speed button or speed dial number you tried to use ha s no number assigned to it. Enter the number manually using the number keypad or store the number or address. Not Available Try Again Later Can not perform the task immediately because too many tasks are running at once.

Troubleshooting _8 3 Color or Black background If the amount of background shading becomes unacceptable: • Change to a lighter weight paper. See page 33. • Check the machine’s environment: very dry (low humidity) or high humid ity (higher than 80% RH) conditions can increase the amount of backg round shading.

Incompatibility between the PDF fil e and the Acrobat products: Printing the PDF file as a n image may solve this problem.
