2 Metal detec tors create an elec tro - magnetic field, which p enetrates the ground. Because metal is c o nductive it causes a change in this f ield. T he detector senses this change and sends a signal back to the control box, aler ting the o perator .
5 ASS EMBLING Y OUR X- TERR A 70 Connecting the Coil Plug the two rubber washer s int o the holes on either side of the lower shaft yoke. Slide the yoke int o the yoke bracket on top of the coil. En sure that the spring loaded pin in the lower shaf t is underneath the c oil shaf t, pointing downwards.

12 13 It is best to only turn the detector on, when outdoors, away from sourc es of elec tromagnetic disturbance. There are many metallic objec ts inside a house (e.g. nails in the f loor , reinforcing in the walls) that migh t overload the electronic s of the detector .
14 15 T o hold the detec tor , thread your arm through the armrest and strap. Grasp the handle of the detector and rest your forearm in the armrest. Y o ur elbow should sit just above the top of the armrest. Lightly tighten the velcro strap and secure it around your arm.
17 Ta r g e t R e s p o n s e (Metal Object Response) This is the sound given by the detector when a target is located and not discriminated (rejec ted). In Coin & T reasure Mode, a target that is highly conductive (e.g. a large silver coin) generally causes a high tone beep and ferrous targets generally cause a low tone beep.
18 19 19 18 PR OSPECTING MODE Coin & T reasure Mode is used for detec ting valuable objec ts, including old and mo dern coins, jeweller y and ar tifac ts . Undesired objec ts such as pull-t abs and bottle c aps may be rejected . This mode can be used in a variet y of environments, such as park s and salt water beaches.
21 Buried metal objec ts are re ferred to as targets . T arget signals contain ferrous and conductivit y information. As the coil is passed over a target, the detector digitally processes the target signal and displays this as a number . T arget Identif ication ( ID) is used to distinguish one t ype of metal t arget from anothe r .
22 The X- T erra 70 has an All Metal Pattern, three preset Discrimination Patterns and Iron Mask. The combinations of ac cepted and rejec ted segments are referred to as Discrimination Patterns. The X - T erra 7 0 has preset Discrimination Patterns that hav e been cus tomised to detect general desired target s, such as coins and jeweller y .
25 24 The Preset Discriminatio n Patterns may be edited to create custom patterns. Method 1 - to reject a specific T arget ID using an actual target When detecting a target, a discrimination segment will f lash, indicating its position on the discrimination scale and the target ’ s ID number will appear on the LCD.
The X- T erra 70 updates the T arget ID and Depth whilst Pinpointing in Coin & T reasure Mode. PINP OI NTI NG 26 When a signal is heard, it is an advantage to identif y the e xac t position of the t arget.
28 29 Dete ct ion (d isplay st ate) In Coin & T reasure Mode, the T arget ID, discrimination segments and depth automatically translat e target signals.
30 31 The X- T erra 70 is highly sensitiv e and has a wide Sensitivity adjustment range. It is impor tant to set the correct Sensitivit y level for your detecting conditions. Sensitivity is the detec tor’ s level of response to a target and its environmen t.
32 33 V o lume is the level of sound emitted by the detector when a target is detec ted. The Volume c ontrol limits the ma ximum volume of target signals. The sound produced by a distant target star ts sof tly . As you get closer , the volume level increases rapidly until it reaches the maximum level that has been set .
34 35 The detec tor ma y become noisy or erratic due to electrical inter ference from powerlines, ele ctrical e quipment or other detectors operating close by . Thi s inte r fer ence is inte rpr ete d as a crackling or popping noise. Noise Cancel allows you to change the noise cancel channel so that you experience less interference.
36 37 ADJUSTING THR ESHOLD Threshold is the constant ba ckground sound produced by the detector to help distinguish bet ween desirabl e and undesirable targets. When a rejec ted target is detected, the Threshold sound ‘blank s’ (b ecomes silent) t o indic ate tha t a rejec ted target is underneath th e coil.
38 39 TONES ADJUSTING TONES Ta r g e t To n e s The number of T arget T ones may be selec ted from the T ones menu. There are f ive dif ferent options listed in the table b elow . Threshold T one In Prospec ting Mode, the pitch of the Threshold T one can b e adjusted using the T o nes menu.
40 41 The X-t erra 70 is capable of operating in two dif ferent t yp es of grounds, magnetic (ie. inland park s) and conductive (wet areas of salt water beaches).
When Pinpoint is activated , T racking Ground Balance is automatically disabled . When Pinpoint is deactivated , T racking Ground Balance is automatically re-enabled. 44 45 FAC T O RY P R E S E T S Erasin g Pa tterns Cu stom patterns are saved when the X - T erra 70 is switched off. T o erase cus tom patterns and return to preset patterns: T urn the detec tor of f . While pressing and holding PATTERNS , turn the detector back on by pressing POW ER once.
46 47 SOUNDS Threshold This is the background ‘buz z ’ given by the detector , to help distinguish between ac cep ted a nd reject ed targ ets.
