EN - 3 MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBERS When ordering replacement parts or making service inquiries, know the M odel and Serial numbers of your unit and engine. Numbers are located on the product registration form in the unit literature package. They are printed on a serial number label, located on the frame of your unit (figure 1).

EN - 7 4.4 Service Hazard Before servicing unit do the following: Read owners manual before servicing or making adjustments to unit. Set parking brake. Remove key and disconnect spark plug before servicing or making adjustments to unit. 4.5 Byst ander Hazard DO NOT operate the unit in the presence of bystanders.
EN - 8 EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM This equipment and/or its engine may include exhaust and evaporative emissions control system components required to meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EP A) and/or California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations.
EN - 9 DO NOT operate at too fast a rate. Slow down before turning. S top engine before removing grass catch er or unclogging chute. DO NOT mow on wet grass. Reduced traction could cause sliding. DO NOT mow with the deck access plate open. Always make sure the access plate is down, or secured down, with the hard ware.
EN - 10 Avoid Electric Shock. Object s contacting both battery terminals at the same time may result in injury and unit damage. DO NOT reverse battery connections.
EN - 11 NOTICE: Do not tighten hardware before review ing ADJUSTING STEERING LEVERS on page 23. If no adjustment is desired tighten hardware. 4. Adjust steering le vers (see ADJUSTING STEERING LEVERS on page 23).

EN - 13 Ignition Switc h Operate ignition switch with a removable key . Ignition switch has four positions: S top ( 1), Headlight (2), Run (3), S tart (4 ). See on page 16 for detailed instructions on how to start engine. Throttle Lever Fast (1) – Increases engine speed.
EN - 14 Steering Levers • Reverse (1) – Pull both steering levers backward. • Forward (2) – Push bo th s teering levers forw ard. • Left (3) – Pull left s teering lever back or push right s teering lever forward or a combination of both.
EN - 15 FILLING FUEL T ANK T o add fuel to the fuel tank: 1. Clean fuel caps and surrounding area to prevent dust, dirt, and debr is from entering fuel tanks. 2. Remo ve fue l caps. IMPORT ANT : Refer to Engine Manual for correct type and grade of fuel.
EN - 16 ST ARTING AND SHUTTING OFF ENGINE St arting the Engine NOTICE: Disengage the PTO, engage the parking brake, and place the steering levers in neutral prior to starting the engine. 1. If the engine is cold, push the choke control away from operator position to start.
EN - 17 IMPORT A NT : Proper maintenance can prolong the life of unit. The following chart shows the recommended service schedule. Refer to the maintenance instructions in the Engine Manual for additional information.
EN - 18 Each Use Follow Engine Manual Mainten- ance Schedule Perform scheduled engine maintenance. Refer to Engine Manual for detailed instructions. NOTICE: T o drain the oil, use the oil drain hose (1) supplied w ith unit, not the drain plug that is shown in the Engine Manual.
EN - 19 TIPPING SEA T FORW ARD Move steering levers to neutral position and rotate handles outward. Tip seat forward. OPENING AND C LOSING HOOD T o open, pull up on the back of the hood until hood hits the hood stops. Push down on back of hood to close (figure 10).
EN - 20 LEVELING AND ADJUSTING PITCH OF MOWER DECK NOTICE: Adjust on a level surface, with the tires inflated to the correct air pressure (see Specifications on page 31). There are three measurements required to level and adjust the pitch of the mower deck.
EN - 21 The Pitch Of The Mowe r Blades From Side-T o-Side (Figure 15) • Should be within 1/4" (6.35 mm) as measured on each side of the mower deck. NOTICE: This measurement must be taken when the mower blade ends are perpendicular (at a right angle) to the frame of the unit.
EN - 22 SERVICING BA TTER Y NOTICE: Unit comes equipped with a maintenance-free battery that requires no regular maintenance except cleaning the terminals and periodic charging. This style battery can be replaced with a standard size U1 battery . Battery Removal and Installation Remove (Figure 18) 1.
EN - 23 Charging the Battery (Figure 19) Follow First Aid directions for contact with battery fluid. • External Contact: Flush with water . • Eyes: Flush with water for at least 15 minutes and get medical atten tion immediately! • Internal Contact: Drink large quantities of water .

EN - 25 4. Remove PTO belt from left mower deck pulley . 5. Slowly release idle r arm until tension is removed from idle r s pring. 6. Remo ve PTO belt from mower deck and electric clutch. Install (Figure 23) NOTICE: Do not install PTO belt on lef t mower deck pulley in step 1.
EN - 26 Check Hydraulic Flui d Level (Figure 25) Check the system with the unit cold and parked on a flat, level surface. Then run the unit for about one minut e and recheck the levels. T o A dd Hydrauli c Fluid: (Figure 25) 1. Remo ve the cap from the expansion tank.
EN - 27 Purging the Hydraulic System 1. With the unit up to and facing a wall, jack up the unit so that both drive wheels are off the ground. 2. Disengage the parking brake and put the trans axle bypass levers in the neutral position (see MOVING UNIT MANUALL Y on page 15) .
EN - 28 T ROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM PROBA BLE CAUSE CORRECT ION Engine will not crank/start. 1. S afety interlock system is not engaged or is faulty. 1. Check safety interlock system (see Safety Interlock System on page 12). 2. Fuel tanks empty. 2. Fill fuel tanks (see FILLING FUEL TA N K on page 15).
EN - 29 Engine overheats. 1. Engine oil level low. 1. Add engine oil. Refer to Engine Manual for detailed instru ctions. 2. Cooling system plugged. 2. Clean cooling system. Refer to Engine Manual for detailed instructions. 3. Faulty engine. 3. Contact your Ariens Dealer.
