EN - 7 Operatio n Engine/blade control feat ure on mower stops engine and blade within 5 seconds whenever operator releases PTO lever . Check this feature frequently . If feature fail s to operate, disconnect spark plug wi re and adjust or h ave it repaired before using unit.
EN - 8 Watch for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, o r other hidden objects. Uneven terrain could cause a slop and f all accident. T all grass ca n hide obstacles. Do not m ow wet grass or excessive steep slopes. Poor footing could cause a slip and fall accident.
EN - 9 Service Maintain or replace safety and instruction labels, as necessary . Keep unit free of debris. Clean up oi l or fuel spills. Do not c hange engine governor setting or overspeed t he engine. Never ma ke any adjustments or repairs with the engine (motor) running.
EN - 10 CARTON CONTENTS ASSEMB L Y 1. Remove mower and grass bag from carton. 2. 91 1 173 : Loosen handlebar mounting hardware. See Figure 4. 3. 91 1 173 : Rotate handlebar to the desired position and tighten mount ing hardware. See Figure 4. ASSEMBLY CAUTION: AVOID INJURY.

EN - 13 CONTROLS AND FEA T URES See Figure 6 for locations. Engine/Blad e Control The engine/blade control must be held against the handlebar to start the engine and blade. Engine/blade control feature stops engine and blade within 3 s econds of operator releasing handlebar .
EN - 14 OPTIONAL CONTROLS Wheel D rive Control (911175, 17 9 ) NOTICE: Engine must be running for wheel drive to propel unit. T o drive forward: Slowly squeeze the wheel drive control toward the handlebar unt il you reach a comfortable ground speed. Hold the wheel drive control against the handlebar for full speed.
EN - 15 MOWER SET -UP To Bag Cl ippings See Figure 9. 1. Shut off unit. 2. Make sure m ulch cover is closed. 3. Lift rear door and remove m ulch plug, if necessary . 4. Hook grass bag frame onto bag mount. There should be no openings between bagger and mounting surface after inst alling bag.
EN - 16 Side Disch arge Chute Re moval See Figure 10. 1. Lift mulch cover . 2. Lift side discharge chute of f of tabs t o release from mower and remove chute. To Mulch Clippings See Figure 9 and Figure 10. 1. Shut off unit. 2. R emove grass b ag or side discharge chute, if installed.
EN - 17 Ariens Dealers will provide any service, parts or adjustments which may be required to keep your unit operating at peak ef ficiency . Should engine require se rvice, contact an Ariens Dealer or an authorized engine manufacturer's service center.
EN - 18 CHECK MOWER BLADE See Figure 1 1. Check blade mounting: blade m ust be secure and bolt torqued to 37.5 – 50 lbf-f t (51 – 68 N•m) (bol t should fully compress lock washer). Check blade for n icks and dull cutting edges. Sharpen if neces sary .
EN - 19 CHECK DRIVE BEL T (911175, 17 9) Check drive belt and replace if worn or damaged. See DRIVE BEL T REPL ACEM ENT on page 21. CHECK F ASTEN ERS Check all fasteners for proper tightnes s. Pay special attention to blade hardware and all guards, shields and safety devices.
EN - 20 SER VICE PO SITION Put unit into se rvice position for eas y access to bottom of dec k. 1. Place unit on a flat, level surface. 2. D isconnect spark plug wire. 3. R emove fuel cap. 4. P lace a piece of plast ic bag over the opening and tighten cap securely .
EN - 21 DRIVE BEL T REPLACEME NT (91 1 1 75, 179) To Remo ve Drive Belt: 1. D isconnect spark plug wire. 2. M ove cable adjuster to loose n wheel drive cable. 3. Disconnect the drive cable spring from the transmission bracket. See F igure 15. 4. R emove blade and blade adapter from the crankshaft.
EN - 22 Install D rive Belt See Figure 16. 1. Route new belt through belt channel. 2. Route belt around transmission pulley and reinstall transmission bracket and hardware. Rotate transmission bac k into location. Loop belt over crankshaft end. Install engine pulley with key .
EN - 23 WHEEL DRIV E CONTROL ADJUSTMENT (911175, 17 9) See Figure 19. NOTICE: The unit should s top immediately when the wheel drive control is released, and the unit should not creep forward when the wheel drive control is dis engaged with the engine running.
EN - 24 IMPORT ANT : NEVER spray unit with high- pressure water or st ore unit outdoors. Store mower in a cool, dry, protected location. Cleani ng Allow unit to cool. Clean unit thoroughly with mild soap and low pressure water. Brush off dirt and debris from all surf aces.
