Wh y Monitor Y our Blood Pressure at Home? Many people e xperience “White Coat Syndrome”, which is a tempor ar y ele v ation of blood pressure during a visit at their physician’ s office. Although only temporar y , it can cause blood pressure to rise and give a f alse indication of a person’ s tr ue b lood pressure .
Blood pressure is measured in millimeters (mm) of mercur y (Hg) and is generally recorded with the systolic pressure (120) listed first and the diastolic pressure (80) listed second.
